Antifungal activity of bacterial strains from the rhizosphere of Stachytarpheta crassifolia. Repositório Alice

This study evaluated the antifungal action of biomolecules produced from the secondary metabolism of bacterial strains found in the rhizosphere of semi arid plants against human pathogenic Candida albicans. Crude extracts were obtained using ethyl acetate as an organic solvent and the bioactivity was assessed with a bioautography technique. The results showed that bacterial strains, Alcaligenes faecalis MRbS12 and Bacillus cereus MRbS26, had compounds with antifungal bioactivity. The largest inhibition zones for both compounds were located on spots with Rf values below 0.500, indicating that the molecules possibly had polar characteristics. These results suggested that microorganisms found in the environment could have bioprospecting potential.

Background: Glycine oxidase (GO), a type of D-amino acid oxidase, is of biotechnological interest for its potential in several fields. In our previous study, we have characterized a new glycine oxidase (BceGO) from Bacillus cereus HYC-7. Here, a variant of N336K with increased the affinity against all the tested substrate was obtained by screening a random mutant library of BceGO. Las propiedades beneficiosas de las bacterias ácido lácticas (BAL) posibilitan su uso como probióticas en animales y humanos. El objetivo del presente trabajo fue caracterizar, mediante pruebas in vitro, cepas BAL procedentes de fuente animal para considerar su posterior aplicación como probiótico en animales. Se evaluaron 72 cepas, identificadas hasta el nivel de género, de Lactobacillus spp., Leuconostoc spp., Lactococcus spp., Streptococcus spp. y Pediococcus spp. A todas las cepas se les determinó su estabilidad de crecimiento a diferentes pH, temperatura y tolerancia a altas concentraciones de cloruro de sodio. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a capacidade de microrganismos de manguezais para controlar a podridão radicular causada por Pythium aphanidermatum e para promover o crescimento em pepino hidropônico (Cucumis sativus). Avaliaram-se 19 microrganismos quanto ao controle da doença em mini-hidroponia. The strain of Bacillus sp. CMAA 1363 was isolated from the Brazilian Caatinga biome and showed plant growth-promoting traits and ability to promote maize growth under drought stress. Sequencing revealed genes involved in stress response and plant growth promotion. These genomic features might aid in the protection of plants against the negative effects imposed by drought.

Although usually considered as a food with low contamination levels, powder milk can present bacterial spores such as Bacillus cereus, If the milk is reconstituted and maintained under inadequate temperatures, spores can germinate and the resulting bacterial contamination can cause to food borne infections. To isolate and quantify organisms of the Bacillus cereus species in whole milk powder, 72 samples of the product were collected in stores located in the city of São Paulo in 1987 and 1988. Properties of the Bacillus Cereus strain used in probiotic CenBiot Rev. Microbiol.

Bacillus cereus CenBiot fulfilled the requirements to be used as probiotic. The spores showed D80 of 14 hs, inhibited Escherichia coli and Yersinia pseudotuberculosis after 24 hs in associative culture, were innocuous for suckling and adult mice and were not inhibited by antibiotics at low concentrations.
