ANÁLISE DE RENTABILIDADE FINANCEIRA DE UMA MINIFÁBRICA DE BENEFICIAMENTO CASTANHA DE CAJU NO ESTADO DO CEARÁ AgEcon
Santos, Antonio Celio; Mendonca, Kamila Vieira; Campos, Roberio Telmo.

Cashew crop propagation Rev. Bras. Frutic.
Martins,Antonio Baldo Geraldo; Silva,Adriana de Castro Correia da; Chiamolera,Fernando Marcelo.
Abstract The cashew tree, a genuinely Brazilian fruit tree, is grown mainly because of its nuts and cashew nut shell liquid (CNSL), widely used in industry. Of great food importance, the cashew apple also presents economic representativeness in Brazil. With great variability, the culture has recently begun researches for improvement, with selection of new clones, more productive and with specific purpose. Usually propagated from seeds to produce new orchards, which has been replaced by vegetative propagation using the seed only for rootstocks production. Vegetative propagation by lateral grafting is the mainly technique used to multiplicated this crop, but various clonal propagation techniques, such air layering and tissue culture have been attempted. The...

Cashew cultivation in Guinea-Bissau – risks and challenges of the success of a cash crop Scientia Agricola
Catarino,Luís; Menezes,Yusufo; Sardinha,Raul.
In recent decades a boom in cashew (Anacardium occidentale)cultivation has taken place in Guinea-Bissau, leading to the replacement of traditional slash-and-burn agriculture by a cash crop. As a result, the country is currently one of the world’s largest producers of raw cashew nuts and the cashew sector has acquired enormous importance in Guinea-Bissau’s economy. Changes induced by the cashew boom at social and environmental levels are yet to be analyzed and understood. The present study provides an account of the process of cashew expansion in Guinea-Bissau, reviews the current situation and discusses its future prospects. The cashew tree was introduced into the country by the Portuguese in the XIXth century, but only effectively expanded in the...

Estimation of the Economic Efficiency of Cashew Nut Production in Benin AgEcon
Arouna, Aminou; Adegbola, Patrice Ygue; Adekambi, Souleimane Adeyemi.
This study contributes to the debate regarding the competitiveness of developing countries in the context of globalization. To take advantage of this trend, developing countries will have to position themselves properly through new policies and efficiency in production. In Benin, new orientation of agricultural policy concerns the diversification of exported products. Therefore, and due to the decrease of international price of cotton which represents the main exported crop, cashew nut, the second exported crop by Benin, becomes more interesting for government policy. The study quantified cashew nut production farmers’ efficiency using a stochastic production frontier and a cost function combined with numerical classification. Primary data were collected...

IMPACTOS SOCIAIS DA “TECNOLOGIA SOCIAL” MINI-FÁBRICA DE CASTANHA DE CAJU NO ASSENTAMENTO CHE GUEVARA, CEARÁ. AgEcon
Araujo, Joao Cavalcante; Mattos, Adriano Lincoln Albuquerque; Sousa, Jose Rodrigues; Andrade, Francisco Gomes; Paiva, Francisco De Assis.

Optimisation of osmotic dehydration of cashew apple (Anacardium occidentale L.) in sugar solutions. Repositório Alice
AZOUBEL, P. M.; MURR, F. E. X..
Osmotic dehydration of cashew apple in sucrose and corn syrup solids solution as influenced by temperature (3050oC), sugar syrup concentration (40-60% w/w) and immersion time (90-240min) was studies through response surface methodology. Responses of water loss (%) and solid gain (%) were fitted to polynomials, with multiple correlation coefficients ranging from 0,92 to 0,99. The fitted functions were optimised for maximum water loss and minimised incorporation of solids in order to obtain a product resembling non-processed fruit. Three optimum sets were selected for each solute and the ascorbic acid content was determined. The ascorbic acid losses were similar to those reported for osmpotic dehydration process.

Peduncle and fruit yield, in six cropping seasons, of early dwarf cashew tree clones irrigated with different water regimes Rev. Bras. Frutic.
Silva,Kathia Maria Barbosa e; Almeida,Francisco Aécio Guedes; Silva,Paulo Sérgio Lima e.
The objective of this work was to evaluate peduncle and fruit yield in clone MS 076 and in a clonal population of drip-irrigated, early dwarf cashew trees propagated by layering, in six cropping seasons. In order to meet the increased water requirements of the crop resulting from plant growth and development, irrigation during the dry season was performed daily according to the following water regime: 15 min/plant/day during the 1st year, 30 min/plant/day during the 2nd year, 45 min/plant/day during the 3rd year and 60 min/plant/day during all subsequent years. Water was supplied by one drip emitter/plant, at an (adjustable) flow rate of 36 L/h.The research was carried out in Fortaleza-Ceará, Brazil, and a random block design was utilized, with five...

Risk assessment of the occurrence of aflatoxin and fungi in peanuts and cashew nuts BJPS
Kujbida,Paula; Maia,Patrícia Penido; Araújo,Ariadne Naama de; Mendes,Leonardo Daniel; Oliveira,Mariana Lepri de; Silva-Rocha,Walicyranison Plinio; Brito,George Queiroz de; Chaves,Guilherme Maranhão; Martins,Isarita.
In the present study, the occurrence of fungi and aflatoxins (AFs) in peanut and cashew nut samples was investigated. Mycological analysis revealed the presence of fungi in 58.8% of samples, and assessment of AFs by chromatographic methods revealed that 52.9% were contaminated by AFs. AFB1 was the principal component in all AF-contaminated samples, with a mean level of 14.0, and 1.08 µg/kg in peanut and cashew nut, respectively. Eleven samples (32.4%) exceeded the total AF maximum level (4 μg/kg) and 8 samples (23.5%) exceeded the AFB1 (2 μg/kg) established by the European Commission. Our findings suggest that the incidence of AFs emphasizes the need for regular monitoring and a more stringent food safety system to control AFs at the lowest possible levels...
