O melhoramento genético pode ser auxiliado por ferramentas moleculares tornando-o mais preciso, rápido e contornando problemas inerentes à seleção fenotípica. O uso de marcadores moleculares permite, entre outros, eliminar genótipos redundantes e quando associados a uma característica, selecionar genótipos que a expressam. Com o sequenciamento da mandioca (Manihot esculenta Crantz) (PROCHNIK et al., 2012) aliado ao uso de ferramentas da bioinformática é possível o desenvolvimento de novas ferramentas moleculares ainda limitadas para essa cultura. Sequências repetitivas de DNA são abundantes no genoma dos eucariotos presentes em regiões de heterocromatina com raros exemplos em regiões gênicas ou de regulação. The genetic linkage map for the common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) is a valuable tool for breeding programs. Breeders provide new cultivars that meet the requirements of farmers and consumers, such as seed color, seed size, maturity, and growth habit. A genetic study was conducted to examine the genetics behind certain qualitative traits. Growth habit is usually described as a recessive trait inherited by a single gene, and there is no consensus about the position of the locus. The aim of this study was to develop a new genetic linkage map using genic and genomic microsatellite markers and three morphological traits: growth habit, flower color, and pod tip shape. Coffee leaf rust (CLR) caused by Hemileia vastatrix Berk. et Br. is one of the major Coffea arabica diseases world-wide. CLR resistance has been attributed to at least nine dominant genes, as single or in combination. We present an inheritance study and mapping loci involved in the Híbrido de Timor (HDT) UFV 443-03 resistance to race I, race II, and pathotype 001 of H. vastatrix . Molecular markers were used to ascertain the phenotypic results and to map the putative resistance loci. For all tree isolates, the inheritance study indicated that the resistance of HDT UFV 443-03 is conditioned by two independent dominant loci or by three independent loci (two dominant and one recessive).
