Aspects de conception et de construction d'un bateau d'assaut en composites ArchiMer
Kader, A; Yaakob, O; Samian, Y.
To help spur the defence industry in Malaysia, the Government is encouraging indigenous research and development effort. This paper describes the development of a prototype fibreglass assault boat at the Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. The boat, designed for riverine and coastal water operations was modelled on aluminium boats currently used by the Malaysian Armed Forces. The completed boat has been evaluated and some minor modifications will be made on the final prototype to be built soon.

Conception rate in Holstein cows treated with GnRH or hCG on the fifth day post artificial insemination during summer Arq. Bras. Med. Vet. Zootec.
Beltran,M.P.; Vasconcelos,J.L.M..
Lactating Holstein cows (n=158), at 213±112 days in milking and averaging 26±9kg of milk per day, were randomly assigned to one of three treatment groups: control (CG, n=52, saline), GnRH (GG, n=55, 100g gonadorelin), and hCG (HG, n=51, 2500IU) given five days after artificial insemination (AI). Rectal temperature was taken at the moment of AI and blood samples were collected five, seven, and 12 days after AI. Pregnancy was determined between 42 and 49 days after AI. Concentration of progesterone (P4) in serum (ng/ml, mean±SE) for CG, GG, and HG were, respectively, 2.7±0.4, 2.5±0.4, and 3.2±0.5 on day 5; 4.8±0.4, 4.2±0.4, and 5.7±0.5 on day 7; and 5.2±0.4, 6.9±0.4, and 8.5±0.5 on day 12 after AI. P4 concentration had proportional increase in serum between...

Effects of long-term controlled internal drug release reuse on reproductive performance, hormone profiles, and economic profit of sheep R. Bras. Zootec.
Swelum,Ayman Abdel-Aziz; Saadeldin,Islam M.; Moumen,Abdullah F.; Ali,Mohamed; Ba-Awadh,Hani; Alowaimer,Abdullah N..
ABSTRACT Fifty-seven multiparous Awassi ewes in the breeding season were used to compare the effects of controlled internal drug release (CIDR) reuse on hormone profiles, reproductive performance, and economic production. Ewes were randomly allotted to one of three CIDR treatments: new (control), once-used, and twice-used; treatment lasted 12 days. Blood samples were collected from all groups at the time of CIDR insertion, three and six days following insertion, at withdrawal time, and at insemination. Serum estradiol (E2) and progesterone (P4) concentrations were measured. Timed insemination was performed 48 h post CIDR withdrawal in all groups. Pregnancy was diagnosed by ultrasonography at day 23 post insemination. No significant differences were...

Influence of low-stress handling on reactivity score and pregnancy rate during fixed-time artificial insemination in Nellore cows R. Bras. Zootec.
Tirloni,Rayf Roberto; Rocha,Fábio Alcântara; Lourenço,Fábio José; Martins,Lílian Rigatto.
The objective of this work was to evaluate the influence of low-stress handling (LSH) on reactivity score and pregnancy rate during fixed-time artificial insemination (FTAI) for extensively raised Nellore cows. Multiparous cows (n = 126) were randomly allocated into two groups: G1 (n = 66) and G2, the control group (n = 60). Group G1 was subjected to LSH, in which the animals were handled in a calm and quiet manner, without loud noises or physical aggression, using the point of balance, respecting the flight zone and using flags to supplement handling. Group G2 was handled following the typical procedure, with yelling, kicking and the use of electric prods and sticks. On D0, D8 and D10, FTAI was performed in both groups. Reactivity was scored on D0, D8 and...

La conception structurale preliminaire de navires en ames sandwich ArchiMer
Previte, C.
Fiberglass laminate design is of deep concern to marine designers and engineers. This presentation summarizes the topic of core selection for marine structures. It provides a schematic approach to de-complicating laminate design, reviews the attributes of different types of Polimex cores and outlines the principal causes of sandwich failure. For sake of brevity engineering analysis and formulas have been greatly abbreviated.

Reproductive performance as affected by lactation status and body fat in beef cows. Repositório Alice
GUIMARAES FILHO, C.; RAY, D. E..
Seventy-one mature Brangus cows, 38 nonlactating (NL) and 33 in late stage of lactation (L) were fed for 192 days (Phase I) a low energy diet (L). During Phase II (65 days) 19 NL and 17 L cows were fed a high energy diet (H). The other nonlactating (19) and lactating (16) cows remained on the low energy diet. Energy restriction during Phase I did not affect (P> 0.05) cyclic ovarian activity although losses in body weight and condition were substantial. Rapid changes in body weight, condition, and percent empty body lipe (EBLP) during Phase II did not substantially influencefertility, although a five-fold difference in EBLP was observed (NL0H vs. L-L). Treatment groups did not differ (P> 0.05) in conception rate, days from the beginning of the...
