Morawicki,Rubén O.; Schmalko,Miguel E.; Känzig,Rodolfo G..
The objective of this research was to investigate the stability of chlorophyll in yerba maté leaves in controlled atmospheres of CO2/air mixtures and different water activities at 25°C.Two levels of water activity were selected corresponding to saturated salt solutions of LiCl (a w=0.113) and MgCl2(a w=0.330) and three levels of CO2/air mixtures (0/100,20/80 and 40/60). The chlorophyll content was evaluated using a liquid chromatography HPLC technique. Experimental values varied between 2.16 and 0.61 mg/g of dry matter. For each sample, 5 determination were made during 58 days. Experimental values were fitted to an equation describing a first order reaction. In all cases, the agreement was good with P<3 10-3. The initial concentration of chlorophyll...

Condicoes ideais para conservacao de maçãs 'Golden delicious' em camara de armazenagem. Repositório Alice
ARGENTA, L.C.; BRACKMANN, A..

Cuticle of 'Gala' and 'Galaxy' apples cultivars under different environmental conditions BABT
Tessmer,Magda Andréia; Antoniolli,Lucimara Rogéria; Appezzato-da-Glória,Beatriz.
This study aimed to analyze the cuticle thickness and pattern of epicuticular wax deposition in 'Gala' and 'Galaxy' apple cultivars (Malus domestica Borkh,) from three Brazilian producing areas: Vacaria (RS), Fraiburgo (SC) and São Joaquim (SC) with altitudes of 971, 1,048 and 1,353m, respectively. Harvested fruit were kept under two storage conditions: regular atmosphere (RA) (0 ºC and 90% RH) and controlled atmosphere (CA) (1.5% O2, 2.5% CO2, 0ºC and 90% RH). Cuticle thickness measurements were made using LM and the deposition pattern of epicuticular wax observed with a SEM. Altitude among the apple producing areas was not a factor in deposition pattern of waxes between the cultivars but at higher altitudes, the cuticle was thicker in both the cultivars....

JAVED,Muhammad Sameem; RANDHAWA,Muhammad Atif; AHMAD,Zulfiqar; SAJID,Muhammad Wasim; NASIR,Muhammad Adnan; TARIQ,Muhammad Rizwan.
Abstract Guava is very delicate and alluring fruit which is being ignored since very long time despite of highly nutritious fruit and rich source of Vitamin C. It contains Vitamin C 2-3 times more than orange. Naturally the guava fruit is enriched with vitamin C and polyphenoles. Guavas fruits after harvesting were dunked in solutions of CaCl2 (1, 2 and 3%) at room temperature for 5 minutes and stored for 24 days in 5% CO2 level at temperature of 10±1°C, while the humidity level of storage chamber were 80%. The stored fruits were analyzed at 6 days of interval for sugars (glucose, fructose and sucrose g/100g) total phenolic contents (mgGAE/100g), antioxidant activity (µmolTE/g), and organic acids (citric, tartaric, ascorbic, and malic acids mg/100 g). The...

Evaluation of different oxygen, carbon dioxide and nitrogen combinations employed to extend the shelf life of fresh-cut collard greens Horticultura Brasileira
Moretti,Celso L.; Araújo,Alessandra L.; Mattos,Leonora M..
Collard greens (Brassica oleracea var. acephala) "Manteiga" were harvested in commercial fields in Brasilia, Brazil, aiming to evaluate different oxygen, carbon dioxide and nitrogen combinations to extend the shelf life of the fresh-cut product. After harvest, leaves were taken to the postharvest laboratory, selected for external blemishes and minimally processed (3 mm thick) inside a cold room (13±2°C). After processing, fresh-cut collard greens were stored under two controlled atmosphere (CA) conditions (3% O2, 4% CO2; 5% O2, 5% CO2/balance N2), and normal air (control), at 5°C (95±2% RH), for six days. Daily, minimally processed collard greens were evaluated for total vitamin C, total chlorophyll, total soluble solids content, and titratable acidity....

Postharvest quality of ‘Brookfield’ apple field-treated with naphthalene acetic acid alone or combined with other growth regulators Bragantia
Wendt,Lucas Mallmann; Brackmann,Auri; Both,Vanderlei; Thewes,Fabio Rodrigo; Schultz,Erani Eliseu; Ludwig,Vagner; Berghetti,Magno Roberto Pasquetti.
ABSTRACT The Gala cultivars represent about 65% of the Brazilian apple production, however, it has a short harvest period, making necessary to use technologies that anticipate or delay fruit maturation. A widely used technology is the preharvest application of growth regulators. The objective of this investigation was to evaluate the effect of preharvest application of naphthalene acetic acid (NAA) combined with aminoethoxyvinylglycine (AVG) and 2-chloroethylphosphonic acid (Ethephon), on the quality of ‘Brookfield’ apple at harvest and after eight months controlledatmosphere (CA)(1.2 kPa O2 and 2.0 kPa CO2) storage followed by seven days of shelf life at 20 °C. The treatments were: [1] Control: application of water only; [2] NAA (40 g.ha-1); [3] NAA (40...
