Diets for feed training peacock bass Cichla sp. Scientia Agricola
Cyrino,José Eurico Possebon; Kubitza,Fernando.
The use of prized, carnivorous fish species such as the peacock bass Cichla sp. in either intensive farming or sport fishing demand specific knowledge on feed conditioning strategies for those species. One thousand and fifteen 0.5-g fingerlings were trained for 7 days to feed on ground fish flesh (GF). Seven hundred and seventy six (76%) fish (0.63 ± 0.03 g) feeding on GF were stocked into twelve 0.03-m³ net cages (63 fish/cage) and submitted to gradual feed ingredient transition (GFIT) weaning technique. Moist pellets with 90, 80, 70 or 60% GF (GF-90, GF-80, GF-70 or GF-60, respectively) were offered during the first 4 days of GFIT. No fish accepted GF-00 at the end of GFIT. Fish started on GF-90 or GF-80 fed well until GF dietary levels dropped below...

Élevage de la palourde japonaise Ruditapes philippinarum dans le bassin d'Arcachon. Bilan des dix dernières années et perspectives de développement ArchiMer
Robert, Rene; Deltreil, Jean-pierre.
Farming of the Japanese clam Ruditapes philippinarum took place for the first time in 1980 in the Arcachon basin. After an experimentation period of about ten years, a farming strategy, taking into consideration the distinctive features found in the bay, was able to emerge. For example, in order to fight against clam predators, crabs such as Carcinus maenas, and balistes such as Balistes capriscus, vertical protection coupled with prior ground gravelling, and laying of nets over the beds during the summer months, have become necessary. The best raising technique seems to rest on early spring planting of middle size spats (T5), after checking that no brown rings are visible. If clam growth seems to be better in oceanic zones, it looks similar in other areas...

Growth, fatness and gross biochemical composition of the japanese oyster Crassostrea gigas in stanway cylinders in the bay of Arcachon, France ArchiMer
Robert, Rene; Trut, Gilles; Borel, Michel; Maurer, Daniele.
The Stanway cylinder was tested in the bay of Arcachon from September 1989 to August 1991. Trials were mainly performed on the Japanese oyster Crassostrea gigas in a wind-exposed area. The seed, spat, 18 month old oysters development and fattening of 2 year old oysters were studied. Compared to plastic bags the Stanway cylinder has high positive effects on survival and growth of Crassostrea gigas seed. It also has positive effects on commercial sized Crassostrea gigas fattening. Nevertheless, the cylinder has negative effects on the growth of Crassostrea gigas spat and 18 month old oysters, except for width. However, oyster quality is greatly improve : higher condition index, higher carbohydrate contents and higher shell densities were recorded. Because...
