Biomechanical analysis of the masticatory movement before and after adjusting dental occlusion in equine Arq. Bras. Med. Vet. Zootec.
Paiva Neto,A.O.; Leite,C.T.; Duarte,C.A.; Dias,D.P.M.; Döwich,G.; Queiroz Neto,A.; Lacerda Neto,J.C..
ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to evaluate through three-dimensional kinematic analysis the influence of occlusal adjustment by tooth wear in masticatory biomechanics of horses. Seven clinically healthy thoroughbred Arabian horses with strong occlusal irregularities were used, of which seven castrated males and one female of between seven and nineteen years of age. Three digital video cameras and seven spherical reflective markers placed on the horses’ face were employed. The animals were filmed twice in succession: while chewing hay before and after the occlusal adjustment by tooth wear. Following that, kinematic analysis was made of the movements obtained by means of the images which were synchronized, segmented and reconstructed three-dimensionally...

Distraction Osteogenesis in Dentistry International Journal of Morphology
Fernandes,Flávio Henrique Carriço N; Orsi,Iara Augusta; Bezzon,Osvaldo Luiz.
Distraction osteogenesis is a technique for induction of new bone formation between two segments of a bone that presents wide possibilities of use in Dentistry. However, the available information on this subject is still scarce. The aim of this article is to review the literature related to bone formation, mechanically induced by distraction osteogenesis, in order to supply subsidies the agreement of this process.

Effect of odontoplasty on apparent digestibility and consumption time of diet for equines Arq. Bras. Med. Vet. Zootec.
Araújo,F.C.D.; Cruz,M.G.; Balieiro,J.C.C.; Menezes,M.L.; Moreira,C.G.; Giunco,C.; Correa,G.F.; Brandi,R.A..
ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of odontoplasty on apparent digestibility of diet for horses, consumption time, and particle size of feces. Nine horses were used, aged 14.5±3.3 years and weightng 531±38.7kg. The diet consisted of 1.5% of live weight (LW) in Tifton 85 hay and 0.75% of LW in concentrate for both assays. The experiment consisted of two tests of apparent digestibility using the method of total collection, before and after the odontoplasty, where the consumption time of hay and concentrate was also evaluated and the particle size of the feces was analyzed. An effect (P<0.05) of odontoplasty on the apparent digestibility coefficients of dry matter, organic matter, crude protein, neutral detergent fiber and acid...

First Premolar Morphometry: A Study in 54 Cases International Journal of Morphology
Fuentes F,Ramón; Borie E,Eduardo; Bustos M,Luis; Tomas M,David.
First lower premolars are the teeth with greater variations following third molars. Fifty four first premolars extracted by orthodontic indication from patients in Temuco, Chile, were studied and classified by age, sex and maxillar and mandible location. The following parameters were measured: vestibular-palatine diameter (VP), mesiodistal (MD) diameter, coronary height (C-O), root length and total length. The data were statistically analyzed and tabulated. The results exhibited that first upper premolars showed higher values in the VP diameter and root length compared with the lower, noting significant differences. Further, male sex showed higher values on most measures compared with females, except in root length. Finally a difference in root length was...

Abstract the focus ofthis study was to testthe hypothesisthatthere would be no difference betweenthe biocompatibility of silicon dioxide nanofilms used as antimicrobial agents. Sixty male Wistar rats were divided into 4 groups (n=15): Group C (Control,Polyethylene), Group AR (Acrylic Resin), Group NP (Acrylic Resin coated with NP-Liquid), Group BG (Acrylic Resin coated with Bacterlon).the animals were sacrificed with 7,15 and 30 days and tissues analyzed as regardsthe events of inflammatory infiltrate, edema, necrosis, granulation tissue, mutinucleated giant cells, fibroblasts and collagen. Kruskal-Wallis and Dunn tests was used (P<0.05). Intense inflammatory infiltrate was shown mainly in Groups BG and AR, with significant difference from Control Group...

PRP: A Possibility in Regenerative Therapy International Journal of Morphology
Issa,Joao Paulo Mardegan; Tiossi,Rodrigo; Mello,Amaro Sergio da Silva; Lopes,Ruberval Armando; Matteo,Miguel Angel Sala Di; Iyomasa,Mamie Mizusaki.
Arecent innovation in dentistry is the preparation and use of platelet-rich plasma (PRP), a concentrated suspension of the growth factors found in platelets. PRP is involved in wound healing and are postulated as promoters of tissue regeneration. This review represents an update of the uses, applications, mechanism of action and clinical benefits of PRP

The assessment of infection control in dental practices in the municipality of São Paulo BJID
Matsuda,Jacqueline Kimiko; Grinbaum,Renato Satovschi; Davidowicz,Harry.
OBJECTIVE: The goal of this study was to evaluate the infection control measures actually implemented by dental surgeons during dental practice, as patients and professionals are exposed to high biological risk in dental care environments. METHOD: 614 questionnaires (90.69%) were answered by professionals registered in updating or in post-graduate courses in the Municipality of São Paulo. RESULTS: Out of surveyed professionals 30.62% admitted that surface protection barriers were not used, whereas 34.17% were using non ideal or outdated pre-disinfection practices. The autoclave was used by 69.38% of participants, although 33.80% were not monitoring control of the sterilization cycles. Chemical and biological indicators were not used simultaneously by...

Treatment of periodontal disease with guided tissue regeneration technique using a hydroxyapatite and polycaprolactone membrane Arq. Bras. Med. Vet. Zootec.
Martins,L.M.A.; Valente,F.L.; Reis,E.C.C.; Sepúlveda,R.V.; Perdigão,A.P.L.; Borges,A.P.B..
ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to evaluate the use of a malleable membrane composed of hydroxyapatite (60%) and polycaprolactone (40%) as treatment of periodontal disease experimentally induced in dogs. A bone defect of standardized dimensions was created between the roots of the third and fourth premolar of 12 dogs for periodontal disease induction. Six dogs had the defect covered by the membrane and six dogs received only standard treatment for periodontal disease, also applied to dogs in the treated group. The animals were clinically monitored during the experiment. Radiographs were taken after surgery and at 60 days after treatment initiation. Clinical attachment level was also assessed in those moments. On the 60th day, dental sample of all...
