Farmers in the northern Guinea Savannah ecological zone of Nigeria have been experiencing declining crop yield due to erratic water supply. In recent times, research on better water management and interaction between effects of climate, soil and field management on crop production is fast gaining grounds with the use of models. The purpose of this research was to evaluate the effect of drip irrigation under different population arrangements on the phytometric features, coffee productivity and bean size classification according to sieve retention. Em Petrolina, PE, em um Latossolo Vermelho-Amarelo arenoso, realizaram-se dois experimentos de campo (1993- e 1994) com tomate rasteiro, cv. IPA-5, com o objetivo de determinar doses e periodos adequados de aplicacao de nitrogenio, via agua de irrigacao, por gotejamento. Adotaram-se tres niveis de nitrogenio, 45, 90 e 135 kg/ha, aplicados em tres periodos diferentes, ate 25, 50 e 75 dias apos o transplantio e o restante 30 dias apos. Houve uma resposta significativa do tomateiro a adubacao nitrogenada, com aumentos na produtividade de ate 308% em relacao ao tratamento sem nitrogenio. Quantifying the local crop response to irrigation is important for establishing adequate irrigation management strategies. This study evaluated the effect of irrigation applied with subsurface drip irrigation on field corn (Zea mays L.) evapotranspiration (ETc), yield, water use efficiencies (WUE = yield/ETc, and IWUE = yield/irrigation), and dry matter production in the semiarid climate of west central Nebraska. Eight treatments were imposed with irrigation amounts ranging from 53 to 356 mm in 2005 and from 22 to 226 mm in 2006. The wetted area fraction is a factor critical to the success of drip irrigation. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of partial soil wetting on transpiration, vegetative growth and root system of young orange trees. The experiment was carried out in a greenhouse where plants were grown in 0.5 m3boxes internally divided into compartments. The wetting of 12 % of soil area was tested on two types of soil cultivated with ‘Valencia’ orange trees grafted onto Rangpur lime and ‘Swingle’ citrumelo rootstocks. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar as alterações na fertilidade do solo, na nutrição mineral e na produtividade de bananeira irrigada por dez anos. O experimento foi conduzido em Latossolo Vermelho eutrófico, de 1997 a 2007, no Município de Janaúba, MG, em um plantio comercial de banana 'Prata-Anã', onde se utilizam, para irrigação por gotejamento, água calcária de poço tubular com salinidade alta e concentração média de sódio. Observou-se que a aplicação da irrigação, por dez anos, promove forte elevação no pH e na condutividade elétrica do solo e desequilíbrios nutricionais, o que limita a produtividade da bananeira. Os teores foliares de macro e micronutrientes permanecem acima dos valores de referência para a cultura.

O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o efeito de cinco frequencias de irrigacao na produtividade e na eficiencia do uso da agua em meloeiro cultivado sob fertirrigacao por gotejamento em solo arenoso de Tabuleiro Costeiro do Piaui. O delineamento experimental foi em blocos ao acaso, com cinco tratamentos e seis repeticoes. Os tratamentos foram: F1, F2, F3, F4 e F5, correspondentes as frequencias de irrigacao de 0,5, 1, 2, 3, e 4 dias, respectivamente. A frequencia de irrigacao influenciou as produtividades comercial e total do meloeiro. As maiores produtividades totais (70,73 t ha-1, 77,99 t ha-1 e 64,21 t ha-1) e comerciais (67,20 t ha-1; 63,88 t ha-1 e 53,67 t ha-1) foram obtidas com as frequencias de 0,5 e de 1 dia, respectivamente. The influence of irrigation depth was evaluated on tomato crop hybrid Debora plus for salad in a field experiment in split-block design with five treatments (irrigation depth of 40, 60, 80, 100 and 120% of crop evapotranspiration - ETc) and four replications. During the experiment, ten plant samples were collected to determine phytomass and leaf area to estimate plant growth parameters for different depths of irrigation. Results showed maximal growth between 70 and 80 days after transplanting in all treatments.
