Comportamento pós-colheita de frutos de morangueiro após a aplicação pré-colheita de quitosana e acibenzolar-S-metil Rev. Bras. Frutic.

O uso de indutores de resistência em plantas representa um método alternativo e promissor no controle de podridões pós-colheita de frutos. Assim sendo, foi conduzido um experimento na Universidade Tecnológica Federal do Paraná - Câmpus Dois Vizinhos - PR, no ano de 2004, com objetivo de avaliar a aplicação pré-colheita de quitosana e acibenzolar-S-metil (ASM) sobre o comportamento pós-colheita de frutos de morangueiro da cultivar Aromas. O efeito da aplicação de quitosana (0,5; 1,0 e 2,0%) e de uma dose de ASM (0,0025%) foi verificado em relação à testemunha (água destilada) e ao tratamento-controle com aplicação de fungicidas. Detection of anthraquinones and identification of 1,4-naphthohydroquinone in cell suspension cultures of Rudgea jasminoides (Cham.) Müll. Arg. (Rubiaceae) Rev. Bras. Bot.

In Rubiaceae, anthraquinones and naphthoquinones are secondary metabolites characteristic of the subfamily Rubioideae, in which Rudgea jasminoides is included. Thin-layer chromatography using specific solvent systems and spray reagents indicated the presence of anthraquinones constitutively produced by cell suspension cultures of R. jasminoides. GC/MS analysis detected 1,4-naphthohydroquinone as a product of biosynthesis only after elicitation of the cells with yeast extract (Saccharomyces cerevisiae). The latter compound is probably a phytoalexin produced by suspension cultures of R. jasminoides.

Effect of Harpin protein as an elicitor on the content of phenolic compounds and antioxidant capacity in two hydroponically grown lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.) varieties. Ciênc. Tecnol. Aliment.

Abstract Harpin protein was used as an elicitor in green (butterhead) and red (oak leaf type) varieties of hydroponically grown lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.). Its impact on polyphenolic content and antioxidant capacity was evaluated. Harpin protein was sprayed three days before harvesting in concentrations of 45, 60, and 120 mg/L. Green lettuce samples showed a positive response to Harpin by significantly increasing its phenolic content from 12 (control) to 16.43 mg gallic acid equivalents (GAE)/100 g dry weight (DW) (120 mg/L Harpin treatment) which means a 36.9% increase. Elicitation of peroxidase activity in genetically transformed root cultures of Beta vulgaris L. Electron. J. Biotechnol.

Genetically transformed roots of red beet produce copious levels of peroxidase (POD) - a multifunctional enzyme with a number of commercial applications. In an effort to elicit the POD activity, the cultures were treated with biotic elicitors such as dry cell powders of microbial cultures (0.1-0.5% w/v) and the respective culture filtrates (1-5% v/v). Similarly, abiotic elicitors, particularly metal ions (2-8 folds of that present in the nutrient medium), the plant hormone Thidiazuron (at 0.25-1 ppm) and other bio-molecules such as Glutathione (at 0.5-10 mM) and Methyl jasmonate (at 20-100 µM) were used. The application of short-term stresses or elicitors in seedlings or embryos with high metabolic activity might increase multi-adversity tolerance. Beans seeds cv. IAC-Carioca were exposed to cold shock temperatures (S - 7°C 24h-1) and salicylic acid (SA - 0.01 mM 48h-1) during imbibition to study physiological responses to osmotic stress physiological responses. The seeds were soaked in paper towel imbibed in water or salicylic acid at 25°C for 24h. PREPARAÇÕES DE Saccharomyces cerevisiae ELICITORAS DE FITOALEXINAS EM MESOCÓTILOS DE SORGO Scientia Agricola

A levedura Saccharomyces cerevisiae estimula o acúmulo de fitoalexinas e tem potencial para ser utilizada como agente de controle alternativo no tratamento de doenças fúngicas em sorgo. São descritos aqui os procedimentos iniciais para a purificação de elicitores de fitoalexinas em sorgo, os quais são extraídos das células da levedura S. cerevisiae por autoclavagem, indicando serem termoestáveis. Após precipitacão com etanol, em concentrações finais de 50 e 80%, as moléculas elicitoras permanecem em solução. O acúmulo de fitoalexinas nos mesocótilos é mais elevado quanto maiores os teores de proteínas das amostras elicitoras.

Purification and characterization of a phytoalexin elicitor from spores of the saprobe Mucor ramosissimus Rev. Bras. Bot.

Plants accumulate antimicrobial compounds (phytoalexins) in response to a wide variety of microorganisms. Mucor ramosissimus Samutsevitsch is a saprobe capable of inducing phytoalexin production in soybean cotyledons and in the leaves of tropical Rubiaceae on whose surface it has been found. In the present study, the elicitor from M. ramosissimus was partially purified and the activity compared to that of a glucan elicitor isolated from Phytophthora sojae. Optimal isolation of the elicitor (based on fungal growth, yield of spores and elicitor activity) was achieved by autoclaving spores obtained from nine day-old cultures of the fungus.
