Antioxidant enzymes preserving coffee quality in refrigerate environment. Repositório Alice
ABREU, G. F. de; ROSA, S. D. V. F. da; MALTA, M. R.; CLEMENTE, A. da C. S.; VILELA, A. L.; PEREIRA, R. W..
Post-harvest phases may cause biochemical and physiological changes with direct effects on coffee (Coffea sp.) grains quality during its storage. The aim of this study was to determine the relevance of antioxidant isoenzyme expression on the coffee grains quality undergoing different types of processing and storage conditions. Coffea arabica L. ripe fruits was harvested, part of them was dry processed and another part was wet processing. Immediately, the coffee was dried. After drying, some of the grains were hulled and the other part was maintained unhulled. After that, the grains were stored under refrigerate controlled conditions (10 ºC and 50% relative humidity) or at 25 ºC without relative humidity control for a period of 12 months. Enzymatic...

Differences in the Detoxification Metabolism between Two clonal Lineages of the Aphid Myzus persicae (Sulzer) (Hemiptera: Aphididae) Reared on Tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum L.) Chilean J. Agric. Res.
Cabrera-Brandt,Marco A; Fuentes-Contreras,Eduardo; Figueroa,Christian C.
Myzus persicae (Sulzer) is a highly polyphagous aphid species, with a subspecies (M. persicae nicotianae) well adapted to tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum L.). We evaluated the effect of this host plant on the aphid performance and detoxification enzymes, in order to test the participation of xenobiotic metabolism on the ability of this aphid to overcome the tobacco chemical defences. Two genotypes, one corresponding to the only M. persicae nicotianae genotype reported in Chile on tobacco, and one genotype belonging to M. persicae sensu stricto were reared on tobacco and pepper (Capsicum annuum L.), respectively. M. persicae nicotianae showed a significantly higher intrinsic rate of increase (r m) on pepper than on tobacco, and M. persicae s.s. performed...

LEAF-CUTTING ANTS Acromyrmex niger SMITH, 1858(HYMENOPTERA; FORMICIDAE) USED AS BIOINDICATORS OF AGROTOXICS RESIDUES Acta biol.Colomb.

Despite the condition of leaf-cutting ant pests in agroecosystems, it is undeniable the benefits they can bring in certain situations or environments. The leaf-cutting ants of the genus Acromyrmex attack mainly leaves of vegetables and fruit trees exposing not only to the agrochemicals used for their control as well as to those used for the control of other pests. Due to the bioindicator potential of environmental quality of the ants and their frequent exposure to agrochemicals such as organophosphates, neonicotinoids and growth regulators insecticide used for pest control, it is necessary to study the sublethal effects that these pesticides may cause. The electrophoresis technique was used to study the activity of esterase isozymes involved in the...

Molecular quantitative assay for esterase-mediated organophosphate resistance in Rhipicephalus microplus. Repositório Alice
BRITO, L. G.; NERY, L. de O.; BARBIERI, F. da S.; HUACCA, M. E. F.; PEREIRA, S. dos S.; SILVA, R. R. da; FERNANDES, C. F. C.; OLIVEIRA, M. C. de S..
The use of pesticides is the main tool to control infestations of the cattle tick Rhipicephalus microplus, and organophosphate (OP) is one of the most used compounds for this purpose. Carboxylesterases (ChEs) are targets for OP pesticides in arthropods, and acetylcholinesterase 2 (AChE2) and esterase 1 (EST1) are metabolic enzymes involved in the xenobiotic detoxification process. The increase in the synthesis of these enzymes can be detected by the quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) assay, which was used to identify cattle tick populations resistant to OP pesticides. For that, two field populations of R. microplus were used, one previously identified by the larval packet test (LPT) as OP −sensitive (LC50 = 0.13 μg/cm2) and...
