In Germany, consumers are confronted with more than 100 organic labels, which lead to uncertainty about the reliability of such labels. As a solution, one public organic label, the Bio-Siegel, was designed. This raises two questions from the marketing perspective: (1) Do any of the individual organic labels have a specific image, a unique selling proposition (USP)? (2) Does the federal Bio-Siegel reduce consumer uncertainty with organic products? In the recent years there has been a growing concern and debate about ethical values linked to organic foods production and consumption. The growing interest in organic and ethical production and trade has been both consumer driven and trade driven (Browne et al., 2000). Although the debates around the ethics of organic food have typically been framed around a divide between production and consumption (Clarke et al., 2008). Therefore, the present research focus on perceptions and motives of ethical consumer. It’s aimed initially at exploring the knowledge and awareness of apulian consumers about the link between ethical values and organic production and consumption.

Von November 2011 bis Januar 2012 erarbeiteten die Marketinggesellschaft GUTES AUS HESSEN (MGH) und das Forschungsinstitut für biologischen Landbau (FiBL) im Auftrag des Bundesministeriums für Ernährung, Landwirtschaft und Verbraucherschutz (BMELV) das Gutachten „Entwicklung von Kriterien für ein bundesweites Regionalsiegel“. Die daraus folgende Diskussion hatte zum Ergebnis, dass der Ansatz eines „Regionalfensters“ vielversprechend ist. Das Regionalfenster ist ein Informationsfeld, das die Verbraucher über Herkunft und Verarbeitungsort eines Lebensmittels informiert: Das Regionalfenster beinhaltet ausschließlich Aussagen zur Herkunft der eingesetzten landwirtschaftlichen Zutaten, dem Ort der Verarbeitung und optional zu den Vorstufen der Landwirtschaft...

Survey of the Residue Situation in Turkish Organic Products Organic Eprints

Since December 2011, ETO and FiBL are jointly implementing the German-Turkish Bilateral Cooperation Project Organic Agriculture. The aim of this project is to ensure and improve the quality of Turkish organic food produced for the European market. The focus of the Project is on the avoidance of unwanted residues such as pesticide contamination. The production chains for dried apricots, sultanas and hazelnuts were investigated in greater depth, and measures were developed for quality improvement. There is very little guidance from the EU Commission on how to handle residues on organic products. The primary tool for assuring quality of organic products and preventing fraud, and also for promoting commerce, is third party organic certification, which aims to regulate and facilitate the sale of organic products to consumers. Certification plays a role along the entire supply chain and is used by organic producers to identify products that are approved for use in certified production (Fabiansson, 2014), while also serving as product assurance for consumers (Sethuraman and Naidu, 2008). Although third party certification systems play an important role in organic production and trade, they are not always suitable for small-scale operators and local market channels.
