13C Photoassimilate partitioning in sweet cherry (Prunus avium) during early spring Ciencia e Investigación Agraria

Stored reserves are critical for the early spring growth of reproductive and vegetative sinks in sweet cherry (Prunus avium L.). To study the distribution of carbon storage reserves on new, highly productive hybrid rootstocks in sweet cherry, an experiment was established using 5-yr-old cv. 'Regina' on the semi-vigorous rootstock 'Gisela®6' ('GI®6'). Using whole-canopy enclosure chambers, five trees were pulse-labeled three times with high levels of 13CO2 during the fall. At leaf drop, leaves, buds, wood, bark and roots were sampled for gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) analysis. The peach tree (Prunus persica) is a fruit species native to temperate climates that requires a chill during its hibernal period to overcome dormancy. However, due to genetic breeding, varieties are currently grown in subtropical and tropical regions where there are low occurrences of chill during this phenological stage. This study evaluated the adaptability and stability of the reproductive and vegetative phases of peach tree cultivars in a subtropical climate. EFFECTS OF THIDIAZURON (TDZ) ON FRUITING OF TEMPERATE TREE FRUITS Rev. Bras. Frutic.

Thidiazuron (TDZ) is a phenylurea like citokinin on cell division fruit growth and fruit shape in some deciduous fruit trees. The effects of TDZ applied during flowering on apple cultivars 'Gala' and 'Fuji" were evaluated during seven growing seasons with annual applications on the same trees. The effects on pear and kiwi fruit trees were also evaluated. Every year, TDZ significantly increased fruit set and fruit weight on apple trees. The seven-year average of the fruit set from TDZ at 10 mg.L-1 was 112.7% while the control was only 51.3%. TDZ did not affect the number of clusters. The fruit weight increased 7.0% and 18.3% when the trees were sprayed with TDZ at 10 mg.L-1 and 5 mg.L-1, respectively. TDZ also increased fruit yield per tree by 28.7% and...

Com o objetivo de diminuir a floracao muito intensa e aumentar a producao de frutos, laranjeiras de umbigo 'Monte Parnaso' (Citrus sinensis Osb.), com dois anos de idade, foram submetidas a anelagem de casca do tronco, pulverizacoes foliares com doses de 0, 10, 20 e 30 ppm de acido giberelico (AG3), combinadas com 0 e 1% de oleo mineral emulsionavel. Foram realizados dois experimentos: um com pulverizacoes repetidas em 22 e 29/07/93, e outro com pulverizacao em plena floracao em 15/09/93. Em ambos os experimentos, 50% das plantas foram submetidas a anelagem da casca do tronco, feita por uma incisao anelar, 5 cm abaixo da formacao da copa. How does the first fruit inhibit younger fruit set in cucurbits? National Institute of Agronomic Research

In this study we describe the inhibitory effect exerted by developing cucumber fruits on later-developing ovaries. Such pollinated ovaries do not set fruit but do not degenerate readily, remaining in a "stand-by" state that can be reversed when older fruits are removed. An increase in fruit set and decrease in inhibition was obtained by exogenous gibberellin and cytokinin treatment, and to a lesser extent by auxin. A decrease in transcript levels of genes expressed during fruit set was apparent in inhibited ovaries.

The Zucchini morphotype of Cucurbita pepo is considered summer squash, and the fruits are harvested when still immature. The formation of the fruit follows sequential processes commencing in the floral organs which must be strictly coordinated in order to obtain a proper fruit. Lack of coordination in the growth of floral organs leads to unsuccessful fruit formation and yield loss. Previous studies have indicated the role of ethylene in the regulation of flower and fruit formation. ABSTRACT Carbaryl or the mixture of carbaryl with NAA (naphthalene acetic acid) or BA (benzyladenine) are the post-bloom chemical thinners most widely used in apple thinning in Brazil. The marketing restriction of carbaryl demands new options of apple post-bloom thinners, requiring the evaluation of others compounds for this purpose. Metamitron is one of the substances that may be used in chemical thinning of apples. El raleo de flores y frutos se utiliza para mejorar amarre, disminuir alternancia, aumentar tamaño y calidad del fruto. En mamey se desconocen la intensidad y área de la rama donde dejar los frutos para mejorar el amarre. Con base en lo anterior, se utilizaron árboles injertados de zapote mamey de ocho años en Alpoyeca e Ixcateopan Gro. Los objetivos de este estudio fueron: i), evaluar el efecto de la intensidad de raleo en la persistencia, dinámica de crecimiento y amarre final en árboles de zapote mamey. Yield of 'Royal Gala' apple trees in response to pruning before or after leaf drop. Repositório Alice

The objective of this work was to evaluate different pruning times, performed before or after natural leaf drop, regarding their effects on the yield of 'Royal Gala' apple (Malus domestica) trees. The experiment was carried out in Vacaria, in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, on seven-year-old trees in four harvests from 2008/2009 to 2011/2012, using a randomized block design. The following pruning times were tested: 46 days before leaf drop (DBLD); 25 DBLD; 5 DBLD; 15 days after leaf drop (DALD); 36 DALD; 55 DALD; and 75 DALD.
