In order to evaluate the efficiency of biobeds on DTC degradation, the aim of this study was to apply, optimize and validate a method to determine dithiocarbamate (mancozeb) in biobeds using gas chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The DTC pesticide mancozeb was hydrolysed in a tin (II) chloride solution at 1.5% in HCl (4 mol L−1 ), during 1 h in a water bath at 80 °C, and the CS2 formed was extracted in isooctane. After cooling, 1 mL of the organic layer was transferred to an auto sampler vial and analyzed by GC-MS. ABSTRACT: Essential oils are the most important compounds produced during secondary metabolism in aromatic plants. Essential oils are volatile, have characteristic odor and are used as defensive agents by plants. In pepper, it is possible to say that essential oils are the “flavor fingerprint” of each species. Since the middle of the XIX century, when dammar became popular in Occident, this natural resin is one of the most used in art painting techniques as final protective coating (varnish) as well as a component of pictorial media. ABSTRACT Mango (Mangifera indica) is one of the most important trees grown mainly in the tropical and subtropical countries. Anthracnose disease caused by Colletotrichum gloeosporioides, is the most damaging disease causing reduction of flower set and yield losses in mango. The present study was designed to evaluate antifungal activity of Datura metel extracts against C. gloeosporioides. Extracts (1% to 3%) of different parts of D. metel viz. leaves, seeds and roots were assessed for their antifungal potential. A preliminary analysis by GC-MS comparing the mass spectrum of the compounds with the Wiley 275 L mass spectral data base was used to identify the fatty acids and mainly, some volatile compounds responsible for the flavor of the roasted coffee oil. The oil was obtained by mechanical expelling of Brazilian beans (Coffea arabica) roasted at 238ºC for 10 minutes. Different sample preparation methodologies such as headspace, adsorbent suction trapping and esterification were used. It was possible to identify pyrazines, pyridines, furan derivatives and other compounds not reported in the literature.

Abstract Aroma differences are generally sensed in white- and red-fleshed loquats. Here, volatile compounds in four white- and three red-fleshed loquat varieties were investigated by headspace solid-phase microextraction and combined analysis of electronic nose (e-nose) and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). In total, 83 volatile compounds were identified, and 33 were common in all of the cultivars. D-limonene, hexanal, (E)-2-hexenal, octanal and nonanal were the most abundant volatile compounds. β-cyclocitral and β-ionone were only detected in red-fleshed varieties. Chemical composition of essential oil from ripe fruit of Schinus terebinthifolius Raddi and evaluation of its activity against wild strains of hospital origin BJM

The essential oil (EO) composition of ripe fruit of S. terebinthifolius Raddi was analyzed by GC-MS. The oil extraction yielded 6.54 ± 1.06% (w/w). Seventeen compounds were identified, accounting for 91.15% of the total oil, where monoterpenes constituted the main chemical class (85.81%), followed by sesquiterpenes (5.34%). The major monoterpene identified was δ-3-carene (30.37%), followed by limonene (17.44%), α-phellandrene (12.60%) and α-pinene (12.59%). Noni is a fruit that has interested the scientific community due to its medicinal and functional activities. Different products that contain noni are already in the market, but their consumption could be impaired by their distinctive unpleasant aroma and flavor. The aim of this work was to evaluate the noni pulp volatile profile by dynamic headspace and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. Thirty seven volatile compounds were detected, mainly alcohols (63.3%), esters (26.9%), cetones (7.4%), and acids (1.2%).

El propósito de este estudio fue evaluar la actividad antagonista de dos cepas de hongos endofíticos, Pseudocercospora kaki y Penicillium sclerotiorum, aislados de las hojas de Camellia sinensis, en relación al patógeno del tizón del arroz Magnaporthe grisea. La actividad inhibitoria de las dos cepas endófitas sobre M. grisea en cultivo dual se comparó con aquella en monocultivo. Thirteen host-plant kairomone blends, including 28 compounds, were tested and showed moderate to high synergy with rhynchophorol. Abstract The objective of this paper was to determine the volatile profile of four cultivars - Barker, Collinson, Fortuna and Geada of avocado (Persea americana, Mill.) fruit and to perform a detailed study on the effect of volatiles extraction conditions. The best conditions for extraction for Collinson and Fortuna cultivars were by using a mixture of pentane and ethyl ether (2:1) as solvent for 80 min, while for Barker and Geada cultivars, the solvents were hexane and pentane-ether (2:1), respectively but for a shorter extraction period of 60 min. The chemical composition of East European (Republic of Moldova, Ukraine, and Romania) oaks was investigated profoundly for the first time in the present study and compared with American and French counterparts. Taking into account the high natural variability of oak extractives contents, the wide-ranging sampling was performed for all oak origins: 276 French oaks, 102 East European oaks of both species (Quercus robur L. and Quercus petraea Liebl.), and 56 American oaks (Quercus alba).
