A Study on the Number and Arrangement of the Structures Passing Through the Porta Hepatis in South Indian Population International Journal of Morphology
Sapna,M; Shetty,Surekha D; Nayak B,Satheesha.
The porta hepatis of the liver is a very important area surgically. The knowledge of the variations in the structures passing through the porta hepatis might be of great help in reducing the risks of surgery in this area. In the current study 59 livers from South Indian cadavers were observed for the number and arrangement of the structures passing through the porta hepatis. In all the livers the portal vein was posteriormost and the hepatic duct was the anteriormost structure. The hepatic artery and its branches were in between the duct and the vein. The mean weight of the liver was 1.025 kg. The mean length of porta hepatis was 4.825 cm and the mean breadth was 2.433 cm. The number varied from one to three for the duct and vein but for the artery it was...

Endothelium-dependent and -independent hepatic artery vasodilatation is not impaired in a canine model of liver ischemia-reperfusion injury BJMBR
Miranda,L.C.; Viaro,F.; Ceneviva,R.; Evora,P.R.B..
We investigated whether hepatic artery endothelium may be the earliest site of injury consequent to liver ischemia and reperfusion. Twenty-four heartworm-free mongrel dogs of either sex exposed to liver ischemia/reperfusion in vivo were randomized into four experimental groups (N = 6): a) control, sham-operated dogs, b) dogs subjected to 60 min of ischemia, c) dogs subjected to 30 min of ischemia and 60 min of reperfusion, and d) animals subjected to 45 min of ischemia and 120 min of reperfusion. The nitric oxide endothelium-dependent relaxation of hepatic artery rings contracted with prostaglandin F2a and exposed to increasing concentrations of acetylcholine, calcium ionophore A23187, sodium fluoride, phospholipase-C, poly-L-arginine, isoproterenol, and...

RAMIFICATION OF THE HEPATIC ARTERY IN SWINE (Sus scrofa domestica) International Journal of Morphology
Büchler,Jussara Almeida Bruno; Prates,José Carlos; Fragoso Neto,Raul Antonio.
We have described the anatomical variations in the ramification of the hepatic artery of males and females adult pigs. The hepatic artery of in block removed stomach, liver and duodenum specimens (n=30), was injected of neoprene latex and dissected. The ramification of the hepatic artery in these animals presented three basic patterns: trifurcation, bifurcation and quadruple ramification, giving origin to vessels supplying the lobes of the liver and neighboring structures. In these three patterns the hepatic artery may or may not posses collateral branches
