A Study of the Staining Effect of Roselle (Hibiscus sabdariffa) on the Histologic Section of the Testis International Journal of Morphology

This study describes the preparation and use of Roselle (Hibiscus sábddariffa) for the differential staining of testicular tissue sections to find out its staining effect on nuclear, cytoplasmic and other structures. Various treatments using modifications of the plant extract in water were carried out on sections of the rabbit testis. Various levéis of differentiation of nuclear and cytoplasmic structures as well as other structures of this organ was obtained especially when 1% eosin was applied as a counter stain. Liquid extracts of dried Roselle (Hibiscus sabdariffa) calyces obtained using ethanol:water (50:50 and 70:30%, v/v), water, ethanol:1.5 N HCl (85:25%, v/v), and ethanol (96%) to evaluate selected antioxidant characteristics (phenolic compounds and antioxidant capacity), color parameters (L, a, and b), and anthocyanins (delphinidin-3-O-sambubioside, delphinidin-3-O-glucoside (myrtillin), and cyanidin-3-O-sambubioside) by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). The total monomeric anthocyanin content was also assessed using the differential pH technique. Crop Performance and Yield of Groundnut, Sesame and Roselle in an Agroforesty Cropping System with Acacia senegal in North Kordofan (Sudan) JARTS

Crop performance and yield of groundnut (Arachis hypogea), sesame (Sesamum indicum) and roselle (Hibiscus sabdariffa) were investigated in an intercropping system with Acacia senegal and compared with sole cropping. The study was conducted in North Kordofan (Sudan) on loamy sand. Experimental design was a randomized complete block with split plots.Crop performance and crop yield of groundnut, sesame and roselle were significantly (p < 0.05) reduced in the intercropping system compared to sole cropping. However, yield reduction in groundnut (53%) was much higher than in sesame (6%) and roselle (14%). Distribución y variabilidad genética de organismos asociados a la enfermedad "pata prieta" de la jamaica (Hibiscus sabdariffa L.), en Guerrero, México. Colegio de Postgraduados

La enfermedad “pata prieta” de la jamaica es una de las principales limitantes fitosanitarias del cultivo de ésta especie en la zona productora más importante del estado de Guerrero, con pérdidas que rebasan el 50% de la producción. La presente investigación se realizó con la finalidad de conocer la distribución y frecuencia de organismos asociados a la enfermedad en 12 sitios ubicados en los municipios de Ayutla y Tecoanapa, Guerrero. Se consideraron variables ambientales y edáficas de los sitios seleccionados. La identificación de organismos se realizó mediante claves taxonómicas y fue confirmada con técnicas moleculares. Abstract Hibiscus sabdariffa is an under-utilized plant that has reported to have great potential in the food industry. The vibrant red pigment from the calyces indicate a source of anthocyanins. Anthocyanins would make ideal natural food colourants with additional nutritional benefits however stability is a hindering factor. Stability studies were the main focus of this study. Crude anthocyanins were extracted using four different solvent systems. The crude extracts were analysed under the following parameters; heat (50 and 80 °C), light (darkness and 20 W light) and pH (pH 1-9) stability.
