A central moon-pool is surrounded by a system of walls and columns above an immersed pontoon. An upper deck is situated above the water line. Sea water can flow between walls and columns above the pontoon. The aim of wave tank experiments is to validate the preliminary sea keeping calculations and study the free surface effects inside the moon-pool and above the pontoon.

Caractérisation expérimentale et numérique du comportement hydrodynamique d’une hydrolienne à membrane ondulante ArchiMer

The thesis presented in this document deals with the caracterisation of the behaviour of an undulating membrane tidal energy converter. This kind of device uses the flutter instabilities occurring between a semi-rigid pre-strained membrane and a fluid flow in order to convert the sea currents energy. Above a certain critical flow speed, the structure ondulates, thus activating the linear converters fixed on it. In order to study this system, an experimental model is developped and tested in a flume tank. The power conversion system is simulated by hydraulic dampers. This work has been performed in a DRET/CNRS convention and related to the problems of sedimentary dynamics in a bay dominated by tidal currents. It combines the descriptive study of the morphosedimentary units with the modeling of bedload processes. At the South channel Isles, the Mont-Saint-Michel bay is well known for his exceptional tidal range. It's open to the offshore with two broad master channels on both sides from the Chausey's archipelago. Study of mineral suspended particulate matter (SPM) is essential to understand ecosystem dynamics. SPM influences light penetration which is closely related to primary production and carries pollutants and nutrients within the water masses. This work aims to study near-surface mineral SPM dynamics in the English Channel using two complementary methods: remote-sensing by satellites and numerical modelling. Firstly, MODIS and MERIS satellite images processed by the IFREMER semi-analytical algorithm and describing non-algal SPM, are analysed to build three statistical models which are able to estimate near-surface SPM using simple variables, e.g., tidal coefficient, significant wave height and mean chlorophyll-a concentration. Estimation des houles résiduelles dans le bassin de Marennes-Oléron. Rapport définitif ArchiMer

Par le contrat n°92 2 526049 du 20 octobre 1992, l'IFREMER a demandé au LHF l'exécution de calculs de propagation de houle du large dans le bassin de Marennes-Oléron avec extension jusqu'à l'embouchure de la Gironde. Cette étude a donc pour objet de déterminer les caractéristiques de la houle (direction, période, hauteur) la côte en fonction de ses caractéristiques au large. Elle a été réalisée par une équipe du Département Portuaire et Côtier de SOGREAH Ingénierie snc.

Etude de l'hydrodynamique sous des plaques immergées proches du fond soumises à la houle ArchiMer

Par le contrat n° 93/5 526 038, l'Ifremer a demandé au LHF l'exécution d'une étude bibliographique et expérimentale sur l'impact d'installations ostréicoles sur l'hydrodynamisme. Des mesures par vélocimétrie laser de la cinématique sous une ou plusieurs plaque(s) disposée(s) dans un canal à houle expérimental, pour différentes hauteurs d'immersion, ont été effectuées. Cette étude a pour objet de mieux comprendre, à l'avenir, la dynamique des vases dans cet environnement.

Etude expérimentale pour l'optimisation des performances d'une plage d'amortissement parabolique ArchiMer

An optimisation study was run before rebuilding the damping beach of the Ifremer Ocean Engineering Basin. Trials were conducted at a ¼ geometrical scale at Ecole Centrale de Marseille in a wave tank reproducing the original performance of the beach. A series of modifications was studied : incidence, device between the beach and the adjacent wall, porosity. Porosity was shown as the most efficient tool to enhance the beach absorption and full scale measurements revealed that the resulting damping coefficient was less than 10 % for all usual periods and amplitudes.

Modélisation morphodynamique d'une embouchure tidale : Application aux Passes d'entrée du Bassin d'Arcachon ArchiMer

The Arcachon tidal inlet exhibits a particularly active morphology due to strong tidal currents and rough wave conditions. During the past 300 years, maximum and minimum extents of the Cap Ferret sand spit have resulted in a difference of 8 km while two channels have alternatively allowed circulation between the lagoon and the ocean. A bidimensional horizontal morphodynarnic model was developed in order to simulate the system evolution under tidal forcing alone or under combined tide and wave action. Modelling at a scale of decades requires the definition of mean annual wave and tide conditions which are representative with respect to sediment transport. Une formulation parabolique pour la propagation en profondeur finie des ondes de gravité en surface ArchiMer

This paper deals with the parabolic formulation of propagation equations of gravity waves in surface in terms of angular capability with respect to the privileged propagation direction. This parabolic formulation is obtained by splitting the Berkhoff equation operator into two parabolic operators representing progressive and regressive wave propagation. The use of Pade approximants permits to derive simultaneously parabolic equations for the transmitted waves and the reflected waves. Two well-known reference examples, which represent the propagation of the wave when a caustic occur, are studied numerically and the results are compared with those of the literature.
