Este trabalho teve como objetivo quantificar o grau de asociação entre variáveis de parte aérea e de raízes em mudas clonadas de guaranazeiro, utilizando-se correlações canônicas, a fim de aperfeiçoar o procedimento de seleção de mudas para garantir o aumento da porcentagem de sobrevivência das mudas após o plantio.

Ensaios de competicao foram conduzidos em varzea, com e sem irrigacao controlada durante dois anos, entre linhagens F de arroz, oriundas de dois cruzamentos, selecionadas na geracao F. A partir da geracao F, as geracoes segregantes de cada cruzamento foram conduzidas, independemente, em cada um desses ambientes. Os objetivos foram verificar a possibilidade de se recomendar os mesmos genotipos de arroz para os sistemas de cultivo em varzea umida e sob irrigacao por inundacao continua e realizar, em apenas um dos ambientes, a selecao preliminar de linhagens de arroz que sejam promissoras para ambas as modalidades de cultivo, visando reduzir os custos operacionais dos programas de melhoramento genetico de arroz para as varzeas. Os objetivos deste trabalho foram caracterizar agronomicamente cem clones de mandioca (Manihot esculenta Crantz) e calcular os coeficientes de trilha entre a produção de raízes tuberosas e cinco componentes da produção, de modo a auxiliar na seleção de clones superiores. O experimento foi conduzido em área experimental da Universidade Federal de Lavras, em 2005 e 2006. Cem clones de mandioca foram avaliados em delineamento látice quadrado 10x10. A unidade experimental foi constituída por quatro plantas espaçadas de 1,0x0,6 m. Este trabalho tem como objetivo estimar a herdabilidade e as correlações fenotípicas entre características de bulbo e planta de famílias de meios-irmãos de cebola múltipla como subsídio para programas de melhoramento para as condições do Nordeste. Utilizou-se um experimento no delineamento de blocos completos casualizados com 14 famílias de meio-irmãos e três repetições. O maior coeficiente de herdabilidade foi apresentado pelo caráter número de bulbos por planta. A alta herdabilidade obtida no caráter número de bulbos por planta pode compensar as baixas associações com as produtividades antes e depois da cura, respectivamente, o que faz com que aquela característica possa ser usada na seleção indireta para produtividade. Heterosis in soybeans for seed yield components and associated traits BABT

The objective of this research was to quantify heterosis of agronomic traits and evaluate direct and indirect correlations among seed yield and other traits. A diallel involving six parents was grown in two localities. Seed yield (PG), one-hundred seed weight (PCS), number of pods per plant (NV), weight of aerial part of the plant (PPA), harvest index (IC) and number of seeds per pod (NGV) were evaluated. Positive values of heterosis were detected for all traits. Estimates of heterosis components were significative for most traits, showing effects of aditivity and dominance. Investigation of morphological predictors of fillet and carcass yield in European sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax) for application in selective breeding ArchiMer

Genetic parameters for carcass and fillet percentage were estimated in 760 European sea bass reared under commercial conditions and slaughtered at 573 days post fertilization (395 g mean body weight). Phenotyped fish were the offspring of 45 sires and 20 dams crossed in a factorial mating design. Pedigrees were re-constructed with 90.7% success using 12 microsatellites. The heritability of fillet yield was moderately low (0.21), while it was high for carcass yield (0.57). Both traits were poorly correlated (− 0.01 to 0.28) making space for their combined improvement. Six traits were evaluated: diameter, length, total weight, pulp weight, peel thickness and number of seeds per fruit. Common carp is a major aquaculture species worldwide, commonly sold alive but also as processed headless carcass or filets. However, recording of processing yields is impossible on live breeding candidates, and alternatives for genetic improvement are either sib selection based on slaughtered fish, or indirect selection on correlated traits recorded in vivo. Morphological predictors that can be measured on live fish and that correlate with real slaughter yields hence remain a possible alternative.
