Effects of lidocaine on lipopolysaccharide-induced synovitis in horses Arq. Bras. Med. Vet. Zootec.
Campebell,R.C.; Peiró,J.R.; Valadão,C.A.A.; Santana,A.E.; Cunha,F.Q..
Lidocaine (100mg 2%) injected into the carpal joint was used to evaluate the inflammatory response induced by injection (1.5ng) of intra-articular E. coli lipopolysaccharide (LPS) endotoxin. Seventeen male Mangalarga horses aged two to three years were divided into three groups and in all animals was injected 0.9% saline (SAL) in the left carpus (LC), and in the right carpus (RC) one of the following combinations were injected: group A (n=6) LPS plus SAL; group B (n=6) LPS plus lidocaine; group C (n=5) lidocaine plus SAL. Synovial fluid and blood samples were collected immediately before the injection of LPS (T0), and at 1.5 (T1), 3 (T2), 6 (T3), 12 (T4) and 36 hours (T5) after the injection. Clinical and physical variables and cellular and biochemical...

Intravenous regional block is similar to sympathetic ganglion block for pain management in patients with complex regional pain syndrome type I BJMBR
Nascimento,M.S.A.; Klamt,J.G.; Prado,W.A..
Sympathetic ganglion block (SGB) or intravenous regional block (IVRB) has been recommended for pain management in patients with complex regional pain syndrome type I (CRPS-I). Forty-five patients were initially selected but only 43 were accepted for the study. The present study evaluated the efficacy of IVRB produced by combining 70 mg lidocaine with 30 µg clonidine (14 patients, 1 male/13 females, age range: 27-50 years) versus SGB produced by the injection of 70 mg lidocaine alone (14 patients, 1 male/13 females, age range: 27-54 years) or combined with 30 µg clonidine (15 patients, 1 male/14 females, age range: 25-50 years) into the stellate ganglion for pain management in patients with upper extremity CRPS-I. Each procedure was repeated five times at...

Memory-impairing effects of local anesthetics in an elevated plus-maze test in mice BJMBR
Blatt,S.L.; Takahashi,R.N..
Post-training intracerebroventricular administration of procaine (20 µg/µl) and dimethocaine (10 or 20 µg/µl), local anesthetics of the ester class, prolonged the latency (s) in the retention test of male and female 3-month-old Swiss albino mice (25-35 g body weight; N = 140) in the elevated plus-maze (mean ± SEM for 10 male mice: control = 41.2 ± 8.1; procaine = 78.5 ± 10.3; 10 µg/µl dimethocaine = 58.7 ± 12.3; 20 µg/µl dimethocaine = 109.6 ± 5.73; for 10 female mice: control = 34.8 ± 5.8; procaine = 55.3 ± 13.4; 10 µg/µl dimethocaine = 59.9 ± 12.3 and 20 µg/µl dimethocaine = 61.3 ± 11.1). However, lidocaine (10 or 20 µg/µl), an amide class type of local anesthetic, failed to influence this parameter. Local anesthetics at the dose range used did not...

Relationship Between Volume of Pterygopalatine Fossa and Block Anesthesia of Maxillary Nerve: A Pilot Study International Journal of Morphology
Aravena Torres,Pedro; Cresp Sinning,Nicole; Büchner Sagredo,Katherine; Muñoz Rocha,Carlos; Cartes-Velásquez,Ricardo.
Block anesthesia of maxillary nerve 9BAMN) is achieved by depositing anesthesia through greater palatine canal into the pterygopalatine fossa. Authors differ in the amount of anesthesia to be administered and the rate of complications (diplopia and hematomas), Coronado et al., (2008), measured the size of the pterygopalatine fossa finding an average of 1.2 ml, suggesting that amount of anesthesia for BAMN. The aim of this study is to compare the effectiveness of low doses of 1.2 ml (LD)versus traditional dose of 1.8 m. (TD) of anesthesia for BAMN and its adverse effects. A quasi experimental exploratory clinical study was performed involving 82 patients where the anesthetic technique was suitable for tooth extraction procedure; patients were randomized in...

Use of lidocaine, propranolol, amiodarone, and verapamil in toad envenoming (genus bufo) in dogs J. Venom. Anim. Toxins
SAKATE,M.; OLIVEIRA,P. C. LUCAS DE.
Toad envenoming in dogs can cause death by cardiac fibrilation (CVF). Traditional therapy consists mainly of atropine and propranolol, the last one used to prevent the CVF, that is preceded by negative ventricular deflections (NVDs) in the QRS complex of the electrocardiogram. This study intended to verify, comparatively, the lidocaine, propranolol, amiodarone, and verapamil abilities to prevent CVF in experimentally envenomed dogs. Thirty-six dogs were divided into 6 groups (GL, GP, GA, GV, GST, and GSV) with n=6; the dogs were submitted to volatile anaesthesia. The animals of the groups GL, GP, GA, and GV received 0.38g of toad venom through oro-gastric catheter and were treated with the following drugs respectively: lidocaine (4mg/Kg), propranolol...
