A field report on vibrio disease of seabass (Dicentrarchus labrax ) in the South of France ArchiMer
Breuil, Gilles; Haffner, Philippe.
Vibrio anguillarum was isolated from diseased seabass reared in aquatic farms (hatcheries and grow-out farms) located along the French Mediterranean coast. A representative strain (V62) differs from the French V. anguillarum strain (V408) by its ability to grow on a 0% salinity medium. The pathogenicity of the representative strain for sea bass was confirmed by injections and bath challenge. The V62 strain reacted with V. anguillarum antiserum (V408) and 84% of the isolated strains from diseased sea bass agglutinated with anti V62 serum.

ArchiMer
Landrein, Sonia.
The determination of Mediterranean Salmonidae has been possible because of morphological and morphometrical studies and immunological and biochemical methods. It is evident that the 'sea trouts' belong to the species S. trutta fario and S. gairdneri irideus. These trouts have been acclimatized naturally to marine life. Experimental tests were undertaken in the laboratory, then in natural medium, to study the possibilities of trout acclimatization in sea water. They have confirmed the great adaptation qualities of these fishes to often extreme conditions. In the experiments undertaken in variable conditions, the influence of temperature and oxygen were exactly specified. Following these experiments, and other experiments realized in France and in other...

Approche microbiologique de l'anchoitage. ArchiMer
Campello, Francois.
The maturation of salted anchovies leads to a product of particular organoleptic properties. The manufacturers have to resolve many problems. A thorough investigation of the phenomenons which occur is necessary to resolve them. The maturation is conducted at different temperatures. The present paper reports the microbiological variations of the present microfloras, from hyper-halophilic to the non-halophilic, which escort organoleptical and biochemical ones chiefly at 20 degree C. If the maturation's temperature is maintained high (28 degree C) there is a strong proteolysis. At 20 degree C the organoleptical characters appear within 2 months.

ArchiMer
Borgne-david, A. Le.
20 samples of phytoplankton were collected by the 'Thalassa' on the Libyan and east Tunisian coast, from Nov 13th to 29th 1969. The vegetal plankton is rather poor on the whole, except in the Gulf of Gabes. Diatoms are dominant and Rhizosolenia plays a leading part. Among the Dinophyceae, the great variety of Ceratium underlines the subtropical affinities of the study area.

ArchiMer
El Gharbi, Salwa; Rousset, Viviane; Raibaut, André.
Lernaeenicus sprattae is a blood-feeding copepod parasite of the pilchard, Sardian pilchardus . The larval stages of L. sprattae attach to the skin or the fins of the larval fish when the fish enter the lagoons. The mature, and in some cases ovigerous females of L.sprattae seek out the base of the fins or directly implant in the eye of juvenile or adult pilchards. The copepod has a particularly serious effect at the site of infection: its feeding has a severe effect on the fish. The pilchard returns to its breeding grounds in the open sea at the end of summer; this migration allows the copepod to complete its reproductive cycle and a new cycle of infestation is able to begin.

Grua, P.
The maritime public land access, and the private one, are well ruled for the shell-fish culture but problems come into sight for the new marine cultures (new species aquaculture) because of the interaction with others economical activities and the needs of the preservation of the ecosystem. Two aims are suggested in order to improve this situation.

Oliver, Guy; Pichot, Yves; Pichot, Paul.
The authors study two populations of Serranus cabrilla, one with a yellow color, the other with a deeper color (orange and brown). They try to see if it is eventually possible to join this duality of coloring to a biochemical difference by the electrophoresis of the eye lens proteins. This technique can give useful indications in a taxonomic study. The results of this work could indicate that the species Serranus cabrilla presents two populations which are separating and tending to a specific individualization. This speciation, perhaps, will tend to the individualization of two species that will be named : Serranus cabrilla for the "red combers" and "Serranus flavus for the "yellow combers".

Disease problems in farmed penaeids in Italy ArchiMer
Giorgetti, G.
The industrial farming of penaeid shrimps began in Italy in the early eighties with the introduction of Penaeus japonicus , that replaced Penaeus kerathurus . In Italy there are no farms for producing eggs and fry on a commercial basis, the restocking material is usually imported from abroad at the stage of post-larval 22-25. Various pathologies were found that appeared to be connected with husbandry techniques, such as overfeeding with low water exchange, overcrowding and poor water quality. Our laboratory diagnosed diseases caused by: virus: infectious pancreatic necrosis (IPN) virus was isolated on EPC-RTG2 cells from spawners without apparent mortality; bacteria: the most frequently isolated bacterium was Vibrio anguillarum , on TSA, marine agar and...

Evolution of bacterial communities precipitating carbonate, in Mediterranean lagoons water and sediment: Study on experimental conditions. ArchiMer
Castanier, S; Maurin, A; Bianchi, A.
To determine if carbonate precipitation is an active or passive bacterial phenomena, factorial analysis has been realized with 880 strains isolated from different samples of sea water and muds kept in various conditions of incubation. Results show the existence of a strong anti-correlation between carbonate precipitation and amino-acid ammonification. Carbonate precipitation is not a passive phenomena linked with amino-acid ammonification.

L'aquaculture francaise en bref ArchiMer
Dosdat, Antoine; Kempf, Marc; Merceron, Michel; Paquotte, Philippe.
Aquaculture in France is characterised by great species diversity. Furthermore, traditional activities (farming of marine shellfish and freshwater fish) coexist with still-developing recent ones (marine fish farming, new pratices in shellfish rearing, etc.). Traditional cultures are the main contributors to the tonnage produced and employment generated. Another noticeable point is the importance of the western part of the country, which carries the main part of the production (> 80 %): the Channel Atlantic coast for shellfish, and nearby rivers for freshwater salmonid farming. On the Mediterranean coast, marine fish farming of bass and bream, as well as shellfish production by new methods (mussels on longlines in open waters), are developing. Important...

Lizzi,José M; Garbulsky,Martín F; Golluscio,Rodolfo A; Deregibus,Alejandro V.

ArchiMer
Campello, Francois.
The author studies the microbial phenomena which occur during the maturation of French anchovies, some from the Basque, the others from the Roussillon coast. There are some differences in relation with the origin of the fishes. On a marine agar, the microflora of the Mediterranean ones is almost constant or in a light diminution while that of the Atlantic ones is climbing during 9 weeks before a decline. On an extremely salted agar and in the both origins the archaebacteria are increasing in number during 5 to 6 weeks and diminishing before. The complete ripening is obtained within 16-17 weeks. The limits of the significance of the microbiological analysis are discussed.

Loubes, Claude; Maurand, Jean; Comps, Michel; Campillo, Albert.
The sporogony of A. nelsoni is of the apansporoblastic type. Diplocaryons always occur during merogony, never occur during sporogony. Sporoblasts are produced by fission of a multinucleate and elongated plasmodium. Spore morphogenesis begins before the end of the end of the sporoblasts individualization. The polaroplast has a very dense outer area. The genus Ameson is very much like genus Perezia and both are badly classified respectively in the families Nosematidae and Unikaryonidae. The creation of the new family Pereziidae is proposed for both genera.

Lesion cutanees ulceratives. ArchiMer
Alzieu, Claude; Duguy, Raymond; Babin, Philippe.
Contamination of Delphinidae's fetuses and newborn has been determined from the organochlorine levels found in the fetuses and pregnant female organs, and in the milk of lactating females, for 4 dolphins and 3 porpoises. High levels of these components show an important transference of mother's contamination to their fetuses and new-born. The examination of 69 ulcerative cutaneous lesions allowed to determine 5 main types of ulcerations with pyocytary necrosis and granulomatous reaction.
