Analysis of applicability of Peleg model to the cooking-infusion of mackerel (Scomber japonicus) slices Ciênc. Tecnol. Aliment.

Mass transfer kinetics in osmotic dehydration is usually modeled by Fick's law, empirical models and probabilistic models. The aim of this study was to determine the applicability of Peleg model to investigate the mass transfer during osmotic dehydration of mackerel (Scomber japonicus) slices at different temperatures. Osmotic dehydration was performed on mackerel slices by cooking-infusion in solutions with glycerol and salt (a w = 0.64) at different temperatures: 50, 70, and 90 ºC. Peleg rate constant (K1) (h(g/gdm)-1) varied with temperature variation from 0.761 to 0.396 for water loss, from 5.260 to 2.947 for salt gain, and from 0.854 to 0.566 for glycerol intake. Aspectos da biologia reprodutiva de Prosopis cineraria (L.) Druce. Repositório Alice

Dentro do genero, Prosopis cineraria destaca-se na producao de frutos em regioes semi-aridas. Como subsidios a programas de melhoramento genetico, foi realizado o presente trabalho em campos experimentais do Centro de Pesquisa Agropecuaria do Tropico Semi-Arido (CPATSA), em Petrolina, PE, no periodo de fevereiro a maio de 1996. Foram selecionadas em cinco arvores, dez inflorescencias por individuo, para observacoes sobre morfologia floral, horario e duracao da antese, desenvolvimento dos varios estadios da inflorescencia ate a maturacao dos frutos. Horizontal distribution and overlap of planktivorous fish stocks in the Norwegian Sea during summers 1995–2006 ArchiMer

The Norwegian Sea harbours several large pelagic fish stocks, which use the area for feeding during the summer. The period 1995–2006 had some of the highest biomass of pelagic fish feeding in the Norwegian Sea on record. Here we address the horizontal distribution and overlap between herring, blue whiting and mackerel in this period during the summers using a combination of acoustic, trawl and LIDAR data. A newly developed temperature atlas for the Norwegian Sea is used to present the horizontal fish distributions in relation to temperature. La interpretación de las estructuras en otolitos para la estimación de edad y crecimiento de algunos peces pelágicos del Ecuador OceanDocs

Se examinaron los otolitos de la macarela (Scomber japonius), la sardina (Sardinops sagax), las pinchaguas (Opisthonema medirastres y O. bulleri) y la sardina redonda (Etrumeus teres). La formación anual de una zona opaca y una zona hialina fue establecida y la utilización de una fecha de nacimiento 1ero. de enero permitió la asignación de los peces muestreados a sus respectivas clases anuales. Se estimó la longitud promedio para cada especie con la cual se calcularon los parámetros de crecimiento del formulario de crecimiento ”von Bertalanffy”. Además, se estimó el crecimiento de la macarela (Scomber japonius) y las pinchaguas (Opisthonema spp) a través del análisis de frecuencia de longitud.

Seedling production of Prosopis juliflora in Northeastern Brazil. Repositório Alice

This paper reports on the techniques of seedling production of Prosopis juliflora used in the semiarid region of Northeastern Brazil. After the harvest of pods, the seed is extracted manually. Seed of P. juliflora will not germinare weel unless their dormancy is overcome by immersion in hot water for three to five minutes. By this process the average germination obtained is above 80 per cent. For seedling production, the plastic bag is the most common contrainer used in the region. Research on propagation by cuttings is bering developed in the region. The best results were obtained with the use of a greenhouse at a temperature of 30 to 35oC and relative humidity of 70 to 80 per cent. The fisheries history of small pelagics in the Northern Mediterranean ArchiMer

Since 2007, the biomass of sardine and anchovy in the NW Mediterranean has remained persistently low, whereas the biomass of the commercially low-valued sprat has exploded. Also, simultaneous decreases in condition, size, and/or age of these populations were observed. Altogether, this resulted in a drop in landings of small pelagics. To understand the amplitude of these events and to provide a baseline scenario against which current changes can be compared, we compiled exceptionally long landing series (1865–2013) of sardine, anchovy, and mackerel for different subregions of the southern French coast.
