Development and validation of a microbial counting method for mebendazole oral suspension BJPS
Assis,Polyana Araújo de; Andrade,Severino Borba de; Oliveira,Clécia Maria Carvalho de; Araújo,Patrícia Menezes de; Grangeiro Júnior,Severino; Ramos,Selma Verônica Vieira.
Mebendazole is an important medicine used to treat helminth infections. These infections affect more than two billion people worldwide. The LAFEPE® (Recife-PE, Brazil) produces the drug mebendazole oral suspension that contains the preservatives methylparaben and propylparaben in its formulation. Drugs that have antimicrobial properties due to preservatives must undergo neutralization of these compounds to allow microbial count testing according to recommendations by the official compendia. In order to obtain a validated method for microbial counting and to ensure its safety and reliability within the pharmaceutical industry, validation of preservative neutralization and of the method for microbial counting was performed according to the USP 30 and PDA...

Influences of stocking density and dietary probiotic supplementation on growing Japanese quail performance Anais da ABC (AABC)
MAHROSE,KHALID M.; ELHACK,MOHAMED E. ABD; MAHGOUB,SAMIR A.; ATTIA,FATEN A. M..
Abstract: This study investigated the effects of stocking density and dietary supplementation of probiotic (Lactobacillus) on growth, traits of carcass, lymphoid organs and intestinal microbial count of Japanese quail. Quail chicks (one week old) were randomly allotted to 6 groups in a 2×3 factorial experiment included 2 levels of stocking density (100, and 75 cm2/bird) and 3 levels of probiotic (0.00, 0.02 and 0.04 g/kg diet). Quail reared at 100 cm2/ bird showed significantly the highest body weight and daily gain. Quail reared at 75 cm2/ bird had significantly the lower average of feed consumption and the best ratio of feed conversion. Increasing level of probiotic up to 0.04 g/kg led to a significant decrease in dressing percentage by about 2.7 %...

Stefanello,Flávia Santi; Cavalheiro,Carlos Pasqualin; Ludtke,Fernanda Luísa; Silva,Mariana dos Santos da; Fries,Leadir Lucy Martins; Kubota,Ernesto Hashime.
Consumers are becoming more aware of the toxicological implications of artificial additives in foods. Natural antioxidants, in addition to reducing the deleterious effects of lipid oxidation, are currently extremely highly valued. This study aimed to invetigate the effect of addition of sun mushroom (Agaricus blazei Murrill) powder on the oxidative and microbiological stability of pork sausage during the shelf life. This powder was used at concentrations of 0.0%, 1.0%, 2.0% and 4.0% in the sausages. Analyses of moisture, protein, ash, fat and microbiological analyses were performed on day 0. The sausages were analyzed on day 0 and every seven days in terms of pH, color, TBARS values and microbiological analyses. The results of the proximal composition...

Potential of grasses and rhizosphere bacteria for bioremediation of diesel-contaminated soils Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Solo
Mezzari,Melissa Paola; Zimermann,Daniela Mara Hoffmann; Corseuil,Henry Xavier; Nogueira,Alexandre Verzani.
The techniques available for the remediation of environmental accidents involving petroleum hydrocarbons are generally high-cost solutions. A cheaper, practical and ecologically relevant alternative is the association of plants with microorganisms that contribute to the degradation and removal of hydrocarbons from the soil. The growth of three tropical grass species (Brachiaria brizantha, Brachiaria decumbens and Paspalum notatum) and the survival of root-associated bacterial communities was evaluated at different diesel oil concentrations. Seeds of three grass species were germinated in greenhouse and at different doses of diesel (0, 2.5, 5 and 10 g kg-1 soil). Plants were grown for 10 weeks with periodic assessment of germination, growth (fresh and dry...
