A Comparison of Consumer Willingness to Pay for Four Types of Sweeteners AgEcon

As the U.S. consumption of sweeteners has increased, analysis of the demand for sweeteners has become more important. In this paper, consumer willingness-to-pay (WTP) for selected four types of sweeteners is evaluated. The four types of sweeteners are Kentucky grown pure maple syrup, artificially maple flavored syrup, sorghum syrup and molasses. Results suggest that consumers who are at high household income level (above $80,000) and with a smaller household size are likely to pay more for Kentucky grown maple syrup. Results show that there is no statistic difference for the annual household consumption among the four types of sweeteners.

Este trabalho objetivou avaliar a velocidade do desenvolvimento micelial de Lentinula edodes (Berk.) Pegler, o cogumelo Shiitake, como efeito da profundidade e da suplementação do substrato à base de bagaço de cana, com diferentes quantidades de farelo de arroz e melaço de cana. Foi instalado um experimento em esquema fatorial 7 x 2 (sete níveis de farelo ou melaço x duas fases de crescimento), utilizando frascos de vidro autoclaváveis para contenção dos substratos. As proporções de farelo de arroz testadas foram: 0, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 e 40% (peso seco/peso seco de bagaço); as concentrações de melaço de cana foram: 0, 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 e 60 g/kg de substrato. Digestibilidad in vitro en dietas integrales para bovinos con inclusión de bagazo de caña y un subproducto energético derivado en el proceso de obtención de etanol. Colegio de Postgraduados

En pruebas de fermentación in vitro se utilizó como sustrato el bagazo de caña, para evaluar un subproducto energético obtenido de la producción de etanol conocido como (ALTEN-60). Se utilizó como producto comparativo la melaza se utilizó en todos las pruebas, con el propósito de realizar comparaciones con el ALTEN-60 debido a su similitud en sus propiedades bromatológicas. Se realizaron 3 etapas en la investigación, en la primera se realizó el análisis proximal de los productos: La melaza mostro mayor porcentaje de materia seca y energía (P<0.05) que ALTEN-60, el contenido de proteína, cenizas y extracto etéreo del ALTEN-60 fueron más altos que en la melaza (P<0.05). La pollinaza es la excreta de las aves de engorda y se ha utilizado en la suplementación de los bovinos debido al elevado contenido de nitrógeno no proteínico (NNP) y por su bajo costo. Con el objetivo de mejorar los parámetros bromatológicos y fermentativos de la pollinaza. Efeito de diferentes níveis de pH e de melaco na sobrevivência de Trichoderms harzianum e Bacillus subtilis em compostos orgânicos. Repositório Alice

Procurou-se avaliar o efeito de diferentes niveis de pH e melaco de cana na sobrevivencia desses micoparasitas em composto organico. Utilizou-se o vermicomposto e o pH foi corrigido mediante a adicao de acido acetico glacial. Apos o periodo de dissecacao, promoveu-se a correcao do pH e incorporacao do melaco e posterior fumigacao. Os dados obtidos foram submetidos a analise estatistica e efetuadas comparacoes quadraticas e lineares entre niveis de pH dentro dos niveis de melaco. Os resultados obtidos mostraram que, na medida em que se reduz o nivel de pH, obtem-se maiores populacoes de T. harzianum e menor populacao de B. subtilis. Effect of molasses and ammonium sulfate concentration on intracellular lipid accumulation by Trichosporon asahii Thai Agricultural

The objective of present study was to examine the effect of molasses and ammonium sulfate concentration on intracellular lipid accumulation by Trichosporon asahii. Nine culture media with different concentration of molasses (M,%) and ammonium sulfate (N,g/l) includings M8N0.5, M8N1.0, M8N1.5, M12N0.5, M12N1.0, M12N1.5, M16N0.5, M16N1.0 and M16N1.5 were randomly assigned in completely randomized design (CRD). Five milliliter of inoculums was transferred in 45 ml of media and incubated at 30oC with shaking at 160 rpm for 6 days. Results illustrated that lipid content was higher when T. asahii was cultured in the medium M12N0.5. This indicated that medium M12N0.5 was suitable for producing single cell oil for use as fat supplement in animal diet

Soybean silage in the diet for beef cattle Animal Sciences

This experiment evaluated the effect of molasses with or without microbial additive on soybean silage regarding the intake, digestibility and growth performance of beef cattle. The experimental design used was randomized blocks with four treatments (diets with soybean silage (SS), SS with microbial inoculant, SS with molasses and SS with microbial inoculant and molasses) and seven replications. Animal were feedlot fed for 99 days. Diets contained forage: concentrate ratio of 70:30, the forage consisted of 40% soybean silage and 30% corn silage. The Economic Feasibility of Energy Sugar Beet Biofuel Production in Central North Dakota AgEcon

This study examines the financial feasibility of producing ethanol biofuel from sugar beets in central North Dakota. Under the Energy Independence and Security Act (EISA) of 2007, biofuel from sugar beets uniquely qualifies as an “advanced biofuel”. EISA mandates production of 15 billion gallons of advanced biofuels annually by 2022. A stochastic simulation financial model was calibrated with irrigated sugar beet data from central North Dakota to determine economic feasibility and risks of production for a 10MGY (million gallon per year) and 20MGY ethanol plant. Comparative studies on the growth of Micrococcus varians were carried out in BHI culture medium (control) as well as in a culture medium with 2% diluted sugar cane blackstrap molasses, enriched with 0.1% yeast extract. The experiment was conducted with three samples of the experimental and control media in a 5 liter fermentor with working volume of 3.5 liters, continuous agitation (150 rpm), 35 ± 0.1°C temperature, 0.7 L air. l-1 medium. min -1, initial pH 7.0 ± 0.2, 24 hour fermentation period, and approximate inoculum of 6.0 log10 CFU/ml. Four Thai Native x Anglo-Nubian 50% crossbred male goat, 2.7-2.8 years old with average body weight (BW) of 35.1+1.6 kg, were arranged in 4x4 Latin Square design. Objective of this study was to determine effects of oil palm frond silage (OPFS) mixed with 0, 2, 4 and 6% molasses on nutrient utilization and rumen fermentation process in Thai native male cattle. Four Thai native male cattle, 2.7-2.8 years old with average body weight (BW) of 280+5 kg, were arranged in 4x4 Latin Square design. The cattle were fed with OPFS mixed with molasses ad libitum and supplemented with concentrate at 0.5% of BW as dry matter (DM) basis.
