A Limit for Antler Length in Captive Marals International Journal of Morphology

The main aim of this study was to estimate phenotypic correlations among live weight, withers height, rump height, chest depth, chest width, thoracic girth, body length, hip widths (between iliac tuberosities and between ischial tuberosities) and forelimb cannon perimeter with antler length measured during the growth of marals on a Kazakh farm. The data comprised 18 animals studied during their growth (at 18 months and at 24 months). In maral, the first period of antler productivity takes place at the age of 24 months. This fact should be taken into account in order to select the best animals for antler production, which is the main purpose for farming this species.

O objetivo deste trabalho foi comparar as estimativas de parâmetros genéticos obtidas em análises bayesianas uni-característica e bi-característica, em modelo animal linear e de limiar, considerando-se as características categóricas morfológicas de bovinos da raça Nelore. Os dados de musculosidade, estrutura física e conformação foram obtidos entre 2000 e 2005, em 3.864 animais de 13 fazendas participantes do Programa Nelore Brasil. Secondary metabolites produced by Actinobacteria of tropical soils represent a largely understudied source of novel molecules with relevant application in medicine, pharmaceutical and food industries, agriculture, and environmental bioremediation. The present study aimed to characterize sixty-nine Actinobacteria isolated from compost and tropical soils using morphological, biochemical, and molecular methods. All the isolates showed high variation for morphological traits considering the color of pigments of the aerial and vegetative mycelium and spore chain morphology. Diversity of Spanish landraces of Cucumis sativus and Cucurbita ssp National Institute of Agronomic Research

The Genebank of the COMAV at the UPV holds an important collection of cucurbits. It contains more than 1000 accessions belonging to the Cucurbita genus and about 180 accessions of Cucumis sativus. In this work a previously established core collection of 52 C. pepo landraces has been characterized with SSRs markers. Also the geographical variation and the utility of seed traits for classifying C. moschata accessions have been tested using a collection of 250 landraces. The variability of a collection of 63 accessions of C. sativus has been inspected using qualitative and quantitative traits. Functional groups are sets of species that play a similar role in a food web. We defined functional groups of fish species based on their morphological characteristics, while using expert knowledge for invertebrates. We measured 9 morphological traits of 72 fish species, and carried out multivariate analyses to assign fish species to functional groups. The analysis identified 9 trait-based fish functional groups to which were added 3 expert-based invertebrate functional groups. Morphological and molecular diversity among cassava genotypes. Repositório Alice

The objective of this work was to characterize morphologically and molecularly the genetic diversity of cassava accessions, collected from different regions in Brazil. A descriptive analysis was made for 12 morphological traits in 419 accessions. Data was transformed into binary data for cluster analysis and analysis of molecular variance. A higher proportion of white or cream (71%) root cortex color was found, while flesh colors were predominantly white (49%) and cream (42%). Four accession groups were classified by the cluster analysis, but they were not grouped according to their origin, which indicates that diversity is not structured in space. Morphological differences between two close fish populations were investigated in Doma Dam, north central Nigeria using principal component and discriminant analyses. The purpose was to identify the two species correctly and assign them into distinct genetic groups. To achieve this, seven morphometric measurements (body weight, standard length, total length, head length, body depth, dorsal fin length and caudal fin length) were made on each of the studied 252 fish specimens (153 Oreochromis niloticus and 99 Lates niloticus). Phylogeny and character evolution of the coprinoid mushroom genus Parasola as inferred from LSU and ITS nr DNA sequence data Naturalis

Phylogenetic relationships, species concepts and morphological evolution of the coprinoid mushroom genus Parasola were studied. A combined dataset of nuclear ribosomal ITS and LSU sequences was used to infer phylogenetic relationships of Parasola species and several outgroup taxa. Clades recovered in the phylogenetic analyses corresponded well to morphologically discernable species, although in the case of P. leiocephala, P. lilatincta and P. plicatilis amended concepts proved necessary. Parasola galericuliformis and P. hemerobia are shown to be synonymous with P. leiocephala and P. plicatilis, respectively. O objetivo deste trabalho foi identificar respostas da vegetação campestre, caracterizada por espécies e tipos funcionais de planta, a diferentes intensidades de pastejo. O levantamento da vegetação, usando quadros de 0,25 m2, foi realizado na primavera e no verão. A descrição da estrutura da vegetação envolveu a identificação das espécies presentes em cada quadro, a estimativa de sua abundância-cobertura e a descrição das espécies considerando 21 atributos macromorfológicos qualitativos e quantitativos. Taxonomy of Tricholoma in northern Europe based on ITS sequence data and morphological characters Naturalis

Based on molecular and morphological data we investigated the taxonomy and phylogeny of the ectomycorrhizal genus Tricholoma in northern Europe. Our phylogenetic tree confirmed the presence of at least 72 well circumscribed species within the region. Of these, three species, viz. T. boreosulphurescens, T. bryogenum and T. ilkkae are described as new to science, based on morphological, distributional, ecological and molecular data. Several other terminal branches represent putative cryptic taxa nested within classical species or species groups. Classification of rice genetic diversity aims to study the genetic relationship and reduce the duplication of collected rice varieties in the National Rice Seed Storage Laboratory for Genetic Resources. Cluster analysis of the morphological and agronomic traits of 211 rice varieties was calculated by Simple Matching and Square Euclidean as well as clustered by UPGMA and Ward method, respectively. [[abstract]]本研究之主要目的為針對一具有全球代表性的綠豆種原,就其形態性狀的多樣性結構進行簡化。本研究共計評估了5,363份種原,所評估之形態性狀包括15 個「測度性狀」與6 個「等級性狀」,共計21 個性狀。為簡化形態性狀多樣性結構所進行之多變數統計分析包括主成分分析、主成分因子分析及最大可能率因子分析。經由主成分分析與主成分因子分析結果,由第1至第6成分(因子)的累加變異解釋量僅達62%,顯示這兩種方法均無法達成只以少數獨立綜合指標簡化此綠豆種原形態性狀多樣性結構的預期目標,因此進行後續種原分群的策略之一為:以包含全部21 個形態性狀之原始數據結構直接進行分群分析。另經由最大可能率因子分析求得函數解之方式,可將形態性狀多樣性結構化簡至只以前3 個因子即可代表92%之累積變異解釋量,因此進行後續種原分群的策略之二為:以最大可能率因子分析所得之前3 個因子或以因子載荷量較大的重要性狀進行分群分析。

綠豆種原外形性狀遺傳歧異之地理分布 Taiwan Agricultural Research Institute

[[abstract]]本研究之主要目的為針對一具有全球代表性的綠豆種原,探討其外形性狀遺傳歧異的地理分布模式。本研究共計評估了來自於8大地理區域中50個國家的5,363份種原,所評估之外形性狀包括測度性狀及等級性狀共計31個。等級性狀遺傳歧異分析結果顯示,不同地理來源所搜集到的種原,各性狀等級間的分布頻度不同,以南亞區域的種原呈現最高的多型性,其中又以印度種原的多型性最為豐富;Shannon-Weaver 歧異指數 ( H ') 之估算結果則顯示同一地理來源中的歧異度依性狀之不同而各異,而同一性狀在不同地理來源中的歧異度也不同。測度性狀在各不同地理來源下性狀表現的變域、均值及變異係數 (CV) 均為不同,而變方分析結果亦證實各性狀在不同地理區域間之表現確呈極顯著差異。因此顯見分布在各不同地理來源的種原,已因農業環境或人為選拔等因素的影響而產生了外形性狀遺傳歧異分布不同的現象。另由性狀間相關分析結果顯示,無論測度或等級性狀,性狀彼此之間存有複雜的相關關係。
