Identification key for Pliocene and Quaternary Spiniferites taxa bearing intergonal processes based on observations from estuarine and coastal environments ArchiMer
Limoges, Audrey; Londeix, Laurent; Mertens, Kenneth; Rochon, Andre; Pospelova, Vera; Cuellar, Tomasa; De Vernal, Anne.
The use of dinoflagellate cyst assemblages as a tool for palaeo-environmental reconstructions strongly relies on the robustness of cyst identification and existing information on the distribution of the different species. To this purpose, we propose a functional key for the identification of Pliocene and Quaternary Spiniferites bearing intergonal processes and depict the range of morphological variation of the different species on the basis of new observations from estuarine and coastal regions. Accordingly, the description of Spiniferites mirabilis is emended to include the new subspecies Spiniferites mirabilis subsp. serratus. We also report the occasional presence of intergonal processes in Spiniferites bentorii and Spiniferites belerius. This key aims...

Morphological variability of the nanoplanktonic diatom Thalassiosira laevis from coastal waters of Province of Buenos Aires (Argentina) Boletín de la Sociedad
Sar,Eugenia A; Sunesen,Inés.
Morphological variability of the nanoplanktonic diatom Thalassiosira laevis from coastal waters of Province of Buenos Aires (Argentina). Despite the fact that the genus Thalassiosira was previous and extensively studied including ultrastructural analysis of species found in phytoplanktonic samples collected from marine waters of Argentina, nanoplanktonic species have been frequently overlooked. This paper is devoted to show the morphological variation of Thalassiosira laevis, a nanoplanktonic species collected from marine coastal waters of the Province of Buenos Aires, to compare Argentinean material with those from China, Korea and Brazil described in the literature, and to record it for the first time from Argentina.

MORPHOLOGY OF THE SYMMETRICAL MORPHOTYPES OF CENTRONELLA REICHELTII VOIGT (FRAGILARIACEAE, BACILLARIOPHYCEAE) FROM PATAGONIAN ENVIRONMENTS Gayana Botánica
Echenique,Ricardo O.; Guerrero,José M..
The ultrastructure of symmetrical valves of Centronella reicheltii Voigt, resembling the former C. rostafinskii Woloszynska, is studied for the first time, and their morphology is compared with the asymmetrical forms. Valve morphology and morphometry of both morphotypes are similar and only differ in the shape and striation pattern of the valve centre and the arrangement of the arm bases. However, since they occur in environments with different trophic status, the new combination C. reicheltii f. rostafinskii is proposed for the symmetrical valves, because this distinction may provide ecologically useful information.

Unexpected diversity of slow lorises (Nycticebus spp.) within the Javan pet trade: implications for slow loris taxonomy Naturalis
Nekaris, K.A.I.; Jaffe, S..
Since the 1950s, Sundaland (Borneo, Java, Sumatra and their surrounding islands) was thought to be inhabited by a single slow loris species, the greater slow loris Nycticebus coucang. Early taxonomies as well as recent morphological and genetic studies, however, point to at least three species native to this region: N. coucang, N. menagensis, and N. javanicus. In the light of this taxonomy, all Sundaland slow lorises, previously considered Least Threatened, have been listed as Vulnerable or Endangered. Of particular concern is the fact that slow lorises are the most common protected primate species in the rampant Southeast Asian pet trade, resulting in their recent transferral to CITES Appendix I precluding all international commercial trade. Due to lack...

Zetorchestes-Arten aus Neuguinea und Japan (Acari: Oribatida: Zetorchestidae) Naturalis
Krisper, G..
A redescription of Zetorchestes saltator Oudemans, 1915 is given. In addition to that, two new Zetorchestes-species from New Guinea (Z. novaguineanus spec. nov., Z. vanderhammeni spec. nov.) and one new species from Japan (Z. aokii spec. nov.) are described in this paper. These four and some other similar species are compared in table 1. In the redescription and the descriptions attention is paid to the intraspecific morphological variability of body size, the shape of the anterior edge of the lamella, the position of the notogastric hair la, the number of the notogastric hairs, the number and position of the genital, anal and adanal hairs, and the shape of the edge of the lamella on femur II. It seems likely that the Zetorchestes-species from New Guinea...
