Adaptative response of Listeria monocylogenes to osmotic and chill stress: consequences on food safety. ArchiMer

Listeria monocytogenes is it psychrotrophic food-borne pathogen. This organism is problematic for food production industry due to its ubiquitous distribution ill nature and its tolerance to condition of osmotic and chill stress. One common strategy employed by many bacteria and by L. monocytogenes for adaptation to osmotic stress is by the intracellular accumulation of compatible solutes. Two different types of adaptative reponses to low temperature have undertaken by L. monocytogenes. Effectiveness of halo-tolerant, auxin producing Pseudomonas and Rhizobium strains to improve osmotic stress tolerance in mung bean (Vigna radiata L.) BJM

Halo-tolerant, auxin producing bacteria could be used to induce salt tolerance in plants. A number of Rhizobium and auxin producing rhizobacterial strains were assessed for their ability to tolerate salt stress by conducting osmoadaptation assay. The selected strains were further screened for their ability to induce osmotic stress tolerance in mung bean seedlings under salt-stressed axenic conditions in growth pouch/jar trials. Three most effective strains of Rhizobium and Pseudomonas containing ACC-deaminase were evaluated in combination, for their ability to induce osmotic stress tolerance in mung bean at original, 4, and 6 dS m-1 under axenic conditions. ABSTRACT Common teasel is a widespread, invasive species that has been introduced in Buenos Aires province, Argentina, where it alters the species composition of protected areas and native grasslands. A better understanding of seed germination behavior is essential for predicting its invasion potential in new areas and would be useful for developing effective management strategies. Germination and emergence of Stachytarpheta cayennensis and Ipomoea asarifolia Planta Daninha

Understanding how weed seed germination and emergence respond to environmental factors is critical to determining their adaptive capabilities and potential for infestations, and could also aid in the development of effective control practices. Germination of Ipomoea asarifolia (Desr.) Roem. & Schultz and Stachytarpheta cayennensis (Rich) Vahl. decreased linearly with decreasing osmotic potentials. Also, increasing osmotic stress delayed germination of Ipomoea more than that of Stachytarpheta. Ipomoea germination was insensitive to light, while Stachytarpheta showed a positive photoblastic behavior. Nitrate had a negative effect on germination of Ipomoea seed under both light and dark conditions but stimulated dark germination of Stachytarpheta....

Germination Ecology of Lathyrus aphaca, a Problematic Weed of Wheat Crop under Semi-Arid Conditions of Pakistan Planta Daninha

ABSTRACT: Lathyrus aphaca is an aggressive dicotyledonous weed. The effect of different agroecological components/factors on the germination ecology of this weed was explored under a glasshouse and laboratory condition in 2014. The germination response of L. aphaca was lower at high temperature while maximum seed germination was found at 15/12 oC (day/night). Light significantly stimulated L. aphaca germination; nevertheless, substantial germination occurred under dark conditions. More than 86-90% of L. aphaca seeds germinated at pH level of 6.2-7.5. The euryhaline white shrimp Litopenaeus vannamei lives in both coastal and oceanic areas through ontogeny. Because of the environmental problems from global warming, the search for microorganisms that promote plant growth under drought and salt conditions is becoming inevitable. A Gram negative bacterium, resistant to 1M salt, gluconic acid and betaine producer and plant growth promoter was isolated from the Brazilian coast mangroves. By the phylogenetic analysis of the 16S rRNA, the strain was included in the taxonomic group of Pseudomonas. Hybridization with type strains and biochemical tests indicate that Pseudomonas strain is a new species. Thus, the name Pseudomonas aestus nov. sp. was proposed and the strain deposited in Embrapa Environment culture collection with the access code CMAA1215.

Soil salinity is one of the major abiotic stresses that limit seed germination and plant growth, causing yield loss in crop species. The phytotoxic effects of salt stress on seed germination and early growth of physic nut (Jatropha curcas L.) seedlings were investigated in the present study. Physic nut seeds were subjected to five levels of salinity [0 (control); 25; 50; 75 and 100 mmol L-1 of NaCl], using the solution-paper method, with five replications. Se estudió la respuesta morfo-fisiológica al estrés osmótico de brotes obtenidos vía organogénica de líneas de maíz LE-13, LE-14, LE-16 y LE- 46, durante tres ciclos de selección in vitro. El estrés osmótico fue inducido con polietilenglicol (PEG-8000) adicionado al medio básico MS (1962). A partir de plántulas in vitro se disecaron secciones de coleóptilo (explante) y se sembraron en medio sólido. Trypsin was used as a model to assess a possible differential contribution of hydration water to the binding of two synthetic inhibitors.
