This ethno-archaeological survey of water related activities of the occupants of the Yobe valley of N.E. Nigeria seeks to investigate how important the Yobe river has been in shaping cultural developments in this comparison of fossilized archaeological data with present day activities and helps in our interpretation of how the occupants have exploited the resources of the Yobe valley to their optimum advantage through time. In the on going investigation, research has been focused on the valley portion between the Bama ridge and the confluence of the Komadugus Yobe and Gana. Mapping of extinct and extant settlements is being carried out with a view to assessing how they were/are shaped by the Yobo river. The biology of the population living in the mid-Mamoré river, close to Trinidad (Béni, Bolivia), was studied between 1981 and 1987. We investigated its reproduction, growth, lenght-weight relationship and condition indice, and estimated its abundance. #Prochilodus nigricans$ has a high fecundity and a short reproduction season (January to March). Spawning occurs at the end of the flood on the lagoons banks. Hatching date was fixed to the first of February. Lenght and age at sexual maturity are respectively 27 cm and 2 years. Chronological regulation of spawning seems to depend of a variable maturation controled by some genetical processes. Lenght reaches about 20 cm at end of first year, and... L'histoire récente des peuplements ichtyologiques du Delta Central du Niger au Mali est marquée, entre autres, par deux périodes de sécheresse survenues en 1973 et 1984, un accroissement important de l'effort de pêche depuis les années 1960 et la construction d'un barrage hydro-électrique mis en service en 1984. A des degrés divers, ces événements sont venus perturber le cycle biologique des poissons qui reposait sur une adaptation des espèces aux cycles hydrologiques des fleuves Niger et Bani. La sécheresse provoque ainsi une réduction des surfaces en eau et une baisse de la durée d'inondation qui divisent par quatre les surfaces inondées dans l'année. Pendant les 18ème et 19ème siècles, les Nunu se sont établis dans les environnements divers : la forêt inondée, les prairies aquatiques, la terre marécageuse, et les rives du fleuve Zaïre.
