Analyse comparee des populations de Lepidopteres en vergers de Pomacees par piegeage avec des pheromones sexuelles de synthese Inra

Deux essais de piégeage par des attractifs sexuels de synthèse, portant sur 18 espèces de lépidoptères, ont été conduits en 1979 et 1980 dans 2 localités de la région d’Avignon en vergers de poiriers et pommiers. L’ordre d’apparition des adultes varie peu dans les 4 situations, ce qui devrait favoriser la détermination des dates d’intervention contre des ravageurs localement dangereux. L’évolution des captures au cours de la saison est influencée par la plante-hôte pommier ou poirier. Les peuplements, comparables dans ces 2 types de vergers, diffèrent par contre suivant le mode de conduite phytosanitaire des exploitations. Une lutte chimique intensive entraîne une forte prédominance d’un nombre réduit d’espèces.

Assortative mating between european corn borer pheromone races: beyond assortative meeting Inra

BACKGROUND: Sex pheromone communication systems may be a major force driving moth speciation by causing behavioral reproductive isolation via assortative meeting of conspecific individuals. The 'E' and 'Z' pheromone races of the European corn borer (ECB) are a textbook example in this respect. 'Z' females produce and 'Z' males preferentially respond to a 'Z' pheromone blend, while the 'E' race communicates via an 'E' blend. Both races do not freely hybridize in nature and their populations are genetically differentiated. A straightforward explanation would be that their reproductive isolation is a mere consequence of "assortative meeting" resulting from their different pheromones specifically attracting males towards same-race females at long range....

Behavioral responses of Spodoptera littoralis males to sex pheromone components and virgin females in wind tunnel Inra

The major component of the sex pheromone of female Spodoptera littoralis, (Z,E)-9,11-tetradecadienyl acetate (1), elicited all steps of the male behavioral sequence, i.e., wing fanning and taking flight, oriented upwind flight and arrival to the middle of the tunnel, close approach and contact with the source. The activity was equivalent to that elicited by virgin females. In the range of doses tested, the dosage of 1 had no significant effect on the number of source contacts. Male response was significantly affected by light intensity, being optimum at 3 lux. Bisabolene epoxides in sex pheromone in Nezara viridula (L.) (Heteroptera: Pentatomidae): role of cis isomer and relation to specificity of pheromone Inra

The trans- andcis-(Z)-α-bisabolene epoxides (trans- andcis-(Z)-αBE) are the main components of the male sex pheromone in Nezara viridula. The role of thecis isomer and the importance of thecis/trans proportion for the activity and the specificity of the pheromone are not clearly elucidated and were studied here. Interindividual variation of thecis/ trans proportion produced by males was studied by individual hexanic extracts in two strains originating from the south of France (SF) and French West Indies (FWI). The trans isomer composed 42–82% of bisabolene epoxides in SF males and 74–94% of bisabolene epoxides in FWI males. Background: Carboxyl/cholinesterases (CCEs) are highly diversified in insects. These enzymes have a broad range of proposed functions, in neuro/developmental processes, dietary detoxification, insecticide resistance or hormone/ pheromone degradation. As few functional data are available on purified or recombinant CCEs, the physiological role of most of these enzymes is unknown. Concerning their role in olfaction, only two CCEs able to metabolize sex pheromones have been functionally characterized in insects. These enzymes are only expressed in the male antennae, and secreted into the lumen of the pheromone-sensitive sensilla. Differences in sex pheromone communication systems of closely related species : Spodoptera latifascia (Walker) and S. descoinsi Lalanne-Cassou and Silvain (Lepidoptera : Noctuidae) Inra

S. latifascia and S. descoinsi are closely related species that occur sympatrically over limited areas in French Guiana. We examined allopatric populations, S. latifascia originating from Barbados and S. descoinsi from French Guiana. Studies on nocturnal activity cycles showed temporal partitioning of female calling behavior, male sexual activity, and mating behavior.S. descoinsi were sexually active in the first half of the scotophase whereas S. latifascia were sexually active in the second half. Disruption mechanisms of pheromone communication in the European grape moth Lobesia botrana Den and Schiff. III. Sensory adaptation and habituation Inra

Disruption experiments were carried out under vineyard conditions and in the laboratory. Males from laboratory cultures were conditioned in an atmosphere permeated with pheromone (E7 Z9-12Ac), marked externally with fluorescent powder, and released in the middle of vine plots. They were then trapped in a series of traps baited with virgin females or dispensers loaded with various amounts of pheromone. Over 10,000 males were released in these experiments between 19 May and 22 July. Electroantennography tests were used for studying olfactory sensitivity in pheromone-permeated air by measuring the EAG responses of male antennae in constant pheromone air-flows. Donnees nouvelles sur la secretion pheromonale de Cryptophlebia leucotreta (Meyr). Lepidoptera Tortricidae Inra

Dans des conditions de photopériode artificielle de jour long (16 : 8), les femelles de Cryptophlebia leucotreta émergent 1 heure après le début de la photophase et présentent un comportement d’appel sexuel à la 4e heure de la scotophase suivante. Une réévaluation de la sécrétion phéromonale de cette espèce a été faite par GC, GC-MS et microchimie. Il apparaît que la femelle émet à distance une phéromone composée d’acétoxy-1 dodécène-8-E (E8DDA) d’acétoxy-1 dodécène-8-Z (Z8DDA) et d'acétoxy-1 dodécane (C12OAc), dans les proportions suivantes : 69, 23 et 8 p. 100. Emploi du piegeage sexuel avec des attractifs de synthese pour l'etude de la repartition dans la region parisienne de trois especes de tordeuses des vergers Inra

Une année de piégeage sexuel des mâles de 3 tordeuses de la pelure, Archips podana, Pandemis heparana et Adoxophes orana au moyen d’attractifs de synthèse nous a permis de préciser leur répartition et leur importance dans la région parisienne. A. orana a disparu de la région de Versailles et de la Beauce mais pullule au Nord de Paris. Par contre, P. heparana et A. podana sont capturés dans toutes les parcelles en quantités variables. Nous avons aussi montré que A. orana cohabite avec P. heparana dans un même biotope. La non-sélectivité de certains attractifs nous a permis de mettre en évidence la présence de ravageurs potentiels, Clepsis spectrana et Argyrotaenia pulchellana, devant faire l’objet d’une surveillance lors des prochaines années.

Etude de la secretion pheromonale de la tordeuse europeenne de l'oeillet: Cacoecimorpha pronubana (Hb), Lep. Tortricidae, Tortricinae Inra

Les constituants élémentaires présents dans la sécrétion phéromonale émise par les femelles vierges de Cacoecimorpha pronubana ont été identifiés par chromatographie en phase gazeuse, spectrométrie de masse et microchimie. Il s’agit de 6 composés dont 3 seulement jouent clairement un rôle dans le comportement sexuel du mâle : les acétoxy-1 tétradécène- 11Z et 11E (Z-11 et E-11 TDA) et le tétradécène-11Z ol-1 (Z-11 TDol). Des capsules chargées de 1 000 μg d’un mélange : Z-11/E-11 TDA (97/3) : 90 p. 100 ; Z-11 TDol : 10 p. 100 permettent de suivre l’évolution du vol de cette tordeuse dans les cultures florales du Sud-Est de la France. Field response of maritime pine scale, Matsucoccus feytaudi Duc. (Homoptera: Margarodidae), to synthetic sex pheromone stereoisomers Inra

The absolute configuration of the primary component of the maritime pine scale (Matsucoccus feytaudi) pheromone (i.e., (8E, 10E)-3,7,9-trimethyl-8,10-dodecadien-6-one) was determined as 3S,7R by field-trapping experiments using synthetic stereoisomers and according to previous NMR considerations. The 3R,7R isomer showed similar activity to 3S,7R, whereasM. feytaudi males responded very weakly to the two other candidates (3R,7S and 3S,7S). Further studies were conducted to optimize scale trapping for monitoring scale populations. Results of these studies showed that the trapping efficiency was related to pheromone dose, trap area, and wind speed but not to trap height.

Identification of the sex Pheromone of Sesamia cretica Lederer Inra

By using solid phase micro-extraction and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry analyses, a sex pheromone blend for the stem borer, Sesamia cretica Lederer (Lepidoptera, Noctuidae), was identified as consisting of (Z)-9-tetradecen-1-ol (80%), (Z)-9-tetradecen-1-yl acetate (10%), and (Z)-11-hexadecen-1-ol (10%). The first two components had previously been discovered as attractants for S. cretica in field tests, but had not been identified in the female's sex pheromone gland. A field-trapping trial showed that the three-component blend gave the highest catches of male S. cretica. Kairomonal response of predators to three pine bast scale sex pheromones Inra

The kairomonal activity of the sex pheromones of three pine bast scales, Matsucoccus feytaudi, Matsucoccus josephi, and Matsucoccus matsumurae, as well as a new analog of the M. feytaudi sex pheromone, were investigated in pine forests of France, Portugal, and Italy. The response of the maritime pine bast scale predators, Elatophilus spp. and Hemerobius stigma, was used to test the influence of trapping methods, kairomone composition, and dose. Both predators showed significant attraction to all compounds except to the sex pheromone of M. josephi. Les acétoxy-1 tétradécène-11 Z et 11 E (Z 11 TDA et E 11 TDA), constituants de la phéromone sexuelle de Argyrotaenia pulchellana (Haw.) (Lepid., Tortricinae, Archipini) Inra

Des pièges sexuels appâtés avec des formulations binaires d’acétoxy-1 tétradécènes - 11 Z et - 11 E (Z 11-TDA et E 11-TDA) se révèlent attractifs pour les mâles de Argyrotaenia pulchellana (Haw.) lorsque ces deux composés sont utilisés dans les proportions de 90 p. 100 et de 10 p. 100 respectivement. Le Z 11-TDA et le E 11-TDA sont perçus de préférence aux autres acétates mono-éthyléniques en C 14 par les antennes des mâles et sont présents dans la glande à phéromone des femelles, mais dans des proportions légèrement différentes (80 p. 100, 20 p. 100). Male sex pheromone of cockroach Eurycotis floridana (Walker) (Blattidae, Polyzosteriinae): role and composition of tergites 2 and 8 secretions Inra

In Eurycotis floridana, the male calling behavior is associated with the exposition of epidermal glands located under tergites 2, 7, and 8. 4-Hydroxy-5-methyl-3(2H)-furanone and 4-hydroxy-2,5-dimethyl-3(2H)-furanone were recently identified as the specific components of tergite 7 secretion. Mating-induced transient inhibition of responses to sex pheromone in a male moth is not mediated by octopamine or serotonin Inra

In the male moth, Agrotis ipsilon, mating induces a transient inhibition of behavioural and central nervous responses to sex pheromone. Newly mated males are not attracted to sex pheromone, and the sensitivity of their antennal lobe (AL) neurons is lower than in virgin males. This rapid transient olfactory inhibition prevents them from re-mating unsuccessfully until they have refilled their sex glands. We hypothesized that this olfactory ‘switch off’ might be controlled by neuromodulators such as biogenic amines. We studied modulations of flight activity in European grapevine moth females (EGVM) by individual observations in a wind tunnel. The effect of different factors was analyzed: variation in atmospheric pressure prior to the experiments, time of day, first experience of flight, age, mating, and odor of tansy, which attracts females. The circadian flight activity showed a peak the hour preceding the onset of scotophase and sustained activity occurred during the 6 h around this peak. Females with a flight experience in the tunnel took off more quickly than naive ones (3.9 ± 7.4 vs 20.3 ± 22.8 s). Multivariate analysis of the correlation between noctuidae subfamilies and the chemical structure of their sex pheromones and male attractants Inra

Female-emitted pheromones and sex attractants of Noctuidae were investigated using a specific computer procedure to analyze data collected from the literature. Correspondence analysis was used to survey the structure-activity relationships of sex pheromones in seven subfamilies. Structural, stereochemical, and functional features of active molecules were related to taxonomy. This multidimensional analysis revealed that the prevalent chemical frame of noctuid moth pheromones was a monounsaturated acetate withZ stereochemistry and a double bond on the fifth carbon closest to the nonfunctional branch of the molecule. Ordinary glomeruli in the antennal lobe of male and female tortricid moth Grapholita molesta (Busck) (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae) process sex pheromone and host-plant volatiles Inra

Both sexes of Grapholita molesta, a key pest of stone fruits, are able to detect host-plant volatiles and the sex pheromone emitted by females, and to modify their behaviour accordingly. How olfactory information is processed in the central nervous system is unknown. Intracellular recordings and stainings were used to characterize antennal lobe (AL) neuron responses to single pheromone components, a behaviourally active blend of five peach volatiles and a pear-fruit ester. AL neurons with different response patterns responded to pheromone components and plant volatiles. In males more neurons responded specifically to the main pheromone component than in females, whereas neurons responding to all three pheromone components were more abundant in females....

Piegeage sexuel de la processionnaire du pin, Thaumetopoea pityocampa Schiff. (Lep. Notodontidae) par des attractifs de synthese. Premiers essais dans le Sud-Ouest de la France Inra

Une phéromone sexuelle attractive, l’acétoxy-1 hexadécen -13 (Z) yne- 11, a été identifiée récemment chez la femelle vierge de Thaumetopoea pityocampa Schiff. Dans la présente étude, l’attractivité sur le terrain de ce composé est démontrée et comparée à celle de l’isomère E. Par ailleurs, des effets de dose, de hauteur et de bordure sont mis en évidence dans le but d’une optimisation du piégeage. Enfin, les premières comparaisons entre piégeage sexuel et piégeage lumineux sont réalisées sur plusieurs sites du réseau de surveillance par pièges lumineux du Sud-Ouest de la France
