Caractérisation et formation de la cangahua en Equateur : analyse préliminaire (chimie, minéralogie, pétrographie) de quelques types de cangahua IRD

This study concerns the indurated horizons of some volcanic ash soils in the Interandine Valley of the Ecuador. These indurated horizons were cropped out by erosion on the piedmont of the sierras, under a subarid to subhumid climate, and then they have been called cangahua. The soils within they are intercalated are composed of several various pyroclastic deposits. The soil profiles show one, two or several indurated horizons. The present observations concern a soil climo-toposequence near Bolivar, viz: downward a soil profile with 2 cangahua horizons; at the midslope a profile with only one horizon of weathered tuff; a little above, another soil with a weakly weathered consolidated ash fall layer; and finally, at the summit on the paramo, an andosol...

Caracterización mineralógica de los tepetates tipo fragipán del valle de México IRD

The tepetates of Mexico Highlands are indurated horizons with fragipan pr0perties. Tepetates appear among pyroclastic deposits (T1, T2, T3). A soil profile located near Texcoco, Mexico, including tepetate layers was studied. Mineralogical and microscopical features of this profile were studied using a series of methods. This report the main results of the study. Tepetates were characterized by several features: first, the nature of their parent material; second, a close matrix microstructure and third, their colloidal fraction. The latter is conformed mainly by laminated 1:1 to 2:1 mixed layer minerals made of flaky layers. These features can explain the fragipan properties of tepetates and most of their mechanical behaviour. (Résumé d'auteur).

Dissolution kinetics of silicon and aluminium in a mollic fragiudalf of central Italy, derived from a volcanoclastic sediment IRD

In the sedimentary basin of Rieti (Central Italy) a Mollic Fragiudalf was studied in order to verify, through the analysis of differential dissolution kinetics of Si and Al, wether the presence of this two elements could be involved in determining the fragic characters of its deep horizons. The reuslts of the main physico-chemical analysis confirmed the fragic features of the deep horizons Bt3x and Ctgx which have been already observed in the field study. Differential dissolution of Si and Al was performed using 0,5 N NaOH at 25°C, and the values of silica and alumina obtained after each of ten consecutive extractions were cumulated to trace the cumulative curves of dissolution. Evolution du modèle quaternaire et des formations superficielles dans les Andes de l'Equateur : 1. Le volcanisme pyroclastique récent IRD

En Equateur plusieurs épisodes volcaniques se sont succédés du Plio-Pléistocène à l'actuel ; les plus récents sont des retombées pyroclastiques aériennes parmi lesquelles on peut distinguer les cendres anciennes, fortement altérées et les cendres récentes, qui feront l'objet de cette étude. Les retombées pyroclastiques des sept prinicpaux volcans des cordillères occidentale (Cuicocha, Pichincha, Quilotoa), orientale (Cotopaxi, Tungurahua) ainsi que des flancs amazoniens des Andes (Reventador, Sangay) ont été analysées. Les cendres émises par ces volcans présentent des cortèges minéralogiques différents, qui montrent une opposition entre volcans de la cordillère occidentale et volcans des versants orientaux et amazoniens. Evolution du modèle quaternaire et des formations superficielles dans les Andes de l'Equateur : 2. Quelques aspects de l'histoire paléogéographique quaternaire IRD

En Equateur les caratéristiques pédologiques des sols issus de pyroclastites, différentes suivant les climats et l'âge des matériaux, ont permis de distinguer les pyroclastites anciennes (plus de 17 000 ans) des récentes (moins de 11 000 ans). Les pyroclastites anciennes ont généré, dans les zones sèches de la Sierra, les formations indurées connues sous le nom de cangahua. Les datations des différentes émissions volcaniques ainsi que les grands traits de la morphogenèse permettent de proposer un schéma de l'évolution paléogéographique du Quaternaire récent en Equateur : les pyroclastites anciennes ont été émises principalement durant la dernière glaciation alors que régnait un climat froid et humide jusqu'à 20 000 ans BP, puis froid et sec de 20 000 à 14...

Los suelos con cangahua en el Ecuador IRD

Indurated volcanic soils are located in the North of the interandean basin. Soils are distributed according to a climatic toposequence. The indurated horizons (cangahua) are located in paleosoils. Their hardness is very high in dry areas, at the bottom of the soil sequence, and lower in high altitude areas which are more hunid. The soils with cangahua at less than 20 cm depth cover about 80,000 hectares. (Résumé d'auteur).
