Chrysodeixis includens (Walker, 1858) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) tem sido considerada uma praga severa em lavouras como a soja e o algodão, espécies de grande importância econômica para o Brasil. Inseticidas à base de baculovírus, um grupo de vírus patogênicos a insetos, têm sido usados com sucesso para controlar lepidópteros-praga na agricultura brasileira. El litchi (Litchi chinensis Soon) es un fruto subtropical. El cultivar Brewster se explota comercialmente en la región del Papaloapan y el cv. Mauritius en los Bajos Mixes, Oaxaca, México. El manchado del pericarpio es uno de los problemas principales en pre y postcosecha del fruto en ambos cultivares. No se han encontrado registros de su causa o importancia en México, por ello los objetivos de esta investigación fueron: determinar la etiología del manchado café del pericarpio e iniciar la exploración del control in vitro de su agente causal. La antracnosis o manchado del pericarpio del litchi se caracterizó externa e internamente por lesiones circulares de color café, con márgenes bien definidos en el pericarpio, pero sin afectar el arilo o la semilla....

The main microbial diseases affecting marine cultured bivalves have been revised on the basis of the etiologic agents, pathogenesis and pathogenicity. Several recent bivalve-interaction models have been studied, including Pecten larvae-Vibrio pectinicida, brown ring disease, juvenile oyster disease, Pacific oyster nocardiosis and summer mortalities of oysters. In addition, the taxonomy and phylogeny of new potential bivalve pathogens and their virulence factors have been established. Botryosphaeriaceae from Eucalyptus plantations and adjacent plants in China Naturalis

The Botryosphaeriaceae is a species-rich family that includes pathogens of a wide variety of plants, including species of Eucalyptus. Recently, during disease surveys in China, diseased samples associated with species of Botryosphaeriaceae were collected from plantation Eucalyptus and other plants, including Cunninghamina lanceolata, Dimocarpus longan, Melastoma sanguineum and Phoenix hanceana, which were growing adjacent to Eucalyptus. Calonectria spp. are important pathogens of ornamental plants in nurseries, especially in the Northern Hemisphere. They are commonly associated with a wide range of disease symptoms of roots, leaves and shoots. During a recent survey in Tunisia, a number of Calonectria spp. were isolated from tissues of ornamental plants showing symptoms of leaf spot, crown and root rot. Cebos para el econtrol de la cucaracha alemana Blatella germanica (Dictyoptera: Blattellidae) formulados con hongos entomopatógenos y ácido bórico. Colegio de Postgraduados

Blattella germanica (Dictyoptera: Blattellidae) es la especie más importante de las cucarachas sinantrópicas en el mundo. En este trabajo se evaluó la patogenicidad de aislamientos de Metarhizium anisopliae, M. pingshaense y Beauveria bassiana en ninfas y adultos de B. germanica. Para ofrecer una alternativa al uso de insecticidas en el manejo de B germanica, se desarrolló una formulación de cebo en polvo y pellet. Se determinó la preferencia de adultos de esta cucaracha, a diferentes dosis de azúcar glas (0.125, 0.25, 0.5, 0.75M) como fagoestimulante y se evaluó la compatibilidad del ácido bórico con los hongos M anisopliae y B bassiana en estos cebos. Characterization of abalone Haliotis tuberculata-Vibrio harveyi interactions in gill primary cultures ArchiMer

The decline of European abalone Haliotis tuberculata populations has been associated with various pathogens including bacteria of the genus Vibrio. Following the summer mortality outbreaks reported in France between 1998 and 2000, Vibrio harveyi strains were isolated from moribund abalones, allowing in vivo and in vitro studies on the interactions between abalone H. tuberculata and V. harveyi. This work reports the development of primary cell cultures from abalone gill tissue, a target tissue for bacterial colonisation, and their use for in vitro study of host cell—V. harveyi interactions. Clinical and pathological characterisation of blood stream (BSF) and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) forms of Trypanosoma brucei rhodesiense trypanosome isolated from a sleeping sickness patient were investigated in rabbits. The study aimed at investigating whether there is any significant difference in clinical and pathological presentation in rabbits infected by the two forms of trypanosomes. Each form of parasite was inoculated into five rabbits at 104 trypanosomes/ml while five rabbits were used as un-infected controls. Colletotrichum species are plant pathogens, saprobes, and endophytes on a range of economically important hosts. However, the species occurring on pear remain largely unresolved. To determine the morphology, phylogeny and biology of Colletotrichum species associated with Pyrus plants, a total of 295 samples were collected from cultivated pear species (including P. pyrifolia, P. bretschneideri, and P. communis) from seven major pearcultivation provinces in China. Species of the genus Coniochaeta (anamorph: Lecythophora) are known as pathogens of woody hosts, but can also cause opportunistic human infections. Several fungi with conidial stages resembling Lecythophora were isolated from necrotic wood samples of Prunus trees in South Africa. In order to reveal their phylogenetic relationships, these fungi were studied on a morphological and molecular (5.8S nrDNA, ITS-1, ITS-2, GAPDH, EF-1α, 28S nrDNA, 18S nrDNA) basis. The production of public goods such as extracellular molecules is metabolically costly for bacteria but could help them to exploit nutrients or invade a host. Determinación del agente causal de la pudrición del cogollo del Agave tequilana Weber var. Azul en el estado de Jalisco. Colegio de Postgraduados

En los últimos años la superficie cultivada de Agave tequilana Weber var. Azul en el estado de Jalisco ha disminuido, debido a la presencia de una enfermedad cuyos síntomas se manifiestan como pudrición blanda del cogollo y muerte de la planta. El objetivo principal fue determinar el agente causal de esta enfermedad. Para ello se realizaron aislamientos, pruebas bioquímicas y moleculares mediante la amplificación del fragmento 16S DNAr y pruebas de patogenicidad con resultados positivos. El patógeno purificado fue una bacteria Gram positiva; en microscopia electrónica se observaron células en forma de bacilo, con presencia de endosporas en la parte terminal y flagelos peritricos. Information about the characterization and diagnostic of wild fire was compiled. This bacterial disease, exotic for Cuba, is caused by Pseudomonas syringae pv. tabaci. The species Pseudomonas syringae is traditionally divided into pathovars depending on the host range and symptoms. For its study, different phenotypic and genotypic methods are used. Such methods allow the traditional taxonomic confirmation of this pathovar within the species. Serological and molecular techniques such as: ELISA tests, immunofluorescence, polymerase chain reaction (PCR) are also used for the characterization and detection of the bacterium. Such techniques are very useful and sensible for the diagnostic.
