Ascertaining of Ug99-race specific genes in wheat genotypes assigned to stem rust resistance based on phenotypic and genotypic reaction CIGR Journal
Draz, Ibrahim Sobhy.
Five wheat genotypes including two commercial cultivars (Mist1 and Misr2) and three Ug99-race specific genes (Sr24, Sr25, and Sr31) were screened for stem rust resistance based on phenotypic and genotypic reaction. Based on phenotypic reaction, Sr24 (LcSr24Ag) and Sr31 (Seri-82) exhibited seeding and adult plant resistance while the wheat cultivars, Misr1 and Misr2 were susceptible. Sr25 Agatha (CI 14048)/9*LMPG-6 DK16 exhibited seedling resistance while showed susceptibility at adult plant stage. Based on genotypic reaction, DNA markers showed that gene Sr25 was only found to be present in Misr1 and Misr2 while Sr24 and Sr31 were absent in both cultivars. Although, virulence to Sr25 was detected. However, avirulence to Sr24 remains this gene as a suitable...

Identification of new sources of resistance to RHBV- rice hoja blanca virus Acta Agron. (Palmira)
Cruz-Gallego,Maribel; Rebolledo,Camila; Cuasquer,Juan; Cruz,Daniel; Peña-Fernández,Alexandra Lorena; Quintero,Constanza; Silva-Córdoba,Alexander; Álvarez,María Fernanda; Jojoa-Cruz,Sebastián; Lorieux,Mathias; Stuart,Jeffrey J.; Correa,Fernando.
Abstract With the aim to find new sources of resistance to rice hoja blanca (white leaf) disease, transmitted by the insect Tagosodes orizicolus, 660 genotypes were evaluated under greenhouse and field conditions. Seven resistant genotypes were identified, and genomic studies were performed to demonstrate that the resistance in these sources is genetically different from that of Fedearroz 2000, which is currently the variety with the most resistance to hoja blanca. These new resistance sources constitute a resource that can be used to sustainably extend hoja blanca disease management throughout all of the rice-growing regions of tropical America. This is the first report of hoja blanca resistance in indica rice and different from that of Fedearroz 2000.

Non-invasive spectral detection of the beneficial effects of Bradyrhizobium spp. and plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria under different levels of nitrogen application on the biomass, nitrogen status, and yield of peanut cultivars Bragantia
Elsayed,Salah; Elhoweity,Mohamed; El-Hendawy,Salah; Schmidhalter,Urs.
ABSTRACT High-throughput phenotyping using spectral reflectance measurements offers the potential to provide more information for making better-informed management decisions at the crop canopy level in real time. The aim of this study was to investigate the suitability of hyperspectral reflectance measurements of the crop canopy for the assessment of biomass, nitrogen concentration, nitrogen uptake, relative chlorophyll contents, and yield in 2 peanut cultivars, Giza 5 and Giza 6. Peanuts were grown under field conditions and subjected to 3 doses of nitrogen fertilizer with or without the application of 2 bio-fertilizers, Bradyrhizobium spp. or plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria. Simple linear regression of normalized difference spectral indices and...

Phenotypic and molecular characterization of apple (Malus × domestica Borkh) genetic resources in Greece Scientia Agricola
Ganopoulos,Ioannis; Tourvas,Nikolaos; Xanthopoulou,Aliki; Aravanopoulos,Filippos A.; Avramidou,Euaggelia; Zambounis,Antonios; Tsaftaris,Athanasios; Madesis,Panagiotis; Sotiropoulos,Thomas; Koutinas,Nikolaos.
ABSTRACT: The phenotypic and genetic analysis of apple (Malus × domestica Borkh) genotypes is essential for breeding species. Information on the morphology and genetic structure of apple offers significant help for germplasm maintenance and selection of suitable material to breed superior cultivars. This study shows the results of an investigation on the morphology and the genetic diversity for 19 apple cultivars, which are preserved in an ex situ collection in Naoussa, Central Macedonia, Greece. Information was recorded over a 5-year period for 47 traits describing plant morphology and phenotype, as well as leaf and fruit quality. Data were analyzed using the principal component analysis (PCA) method. The Euclidean distance metric and the Ward’s...

Relationships between growth, survival, physiology and behaviour — A multi-criteria approach to Haliotis tuberculata phenotypic traits ArchiMer
Lachambre, Sebastien; Huchette, Sylvain; Day, Rob; Boudry, Pierre; Rio-cabello, Antoine; Fustec, Timothee; Roussel, Sabine.
Abalone growth rate is often identified among important traits to improve through selective breeding. However, the rapid success of some selective breeding plans has sometimes led to negative effects in some aquaculture species due to trade-offs. One of them is the loss of homeostasis of selected animals which results in the inability to resist the stress experienced during the rearing process. In this context, this study aimed to analyze the phenotypic relationships between growth, and physiological and behavioural traits in Haliotis tuberculata under stressful conditions. Eleven traits related to growth, immunity, reproduction and behaviour were recorded under laboratory conditions. A total of 120 adults from wild or farm origin were first monitored...

Signature d'expression de gènes, Marqueur prédictif de capacités de survie chez l'huître Crassostrea gigas ArchiMer
Bachere, Evelyne; Degremont, Lionel; Piquemal, David; Roman, Bruno; Noguier, Florian.
