Comparison of brown trout (Salmo trutta) reared in fresh water and sea water to freshwater rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss): II. Phosphorus balance ArchiMer

Brown trout and rainbow trout (average weight 100 g) were reared in fresh water at 12 degrees C under the same conditions before transferring brown trout to sea water, in order to compare phosphorus utilisation in both species. Apparent phosphorus availability, orthophosphate excretion and phosphorus accretion in the fish were directly determined. Thus, actual phosphorus mass balance was built. Rainbow trout raised in fresh water had a higher phosphorus retention coefficient (maximum 50 %) than brown trout reared in fresh water (maximum 45 %). Transferring brown trout to sea water induced a reduction in phosphorus retention (maximum 39 %), Orthophosphate excretion, ranging 7-20 mg phosphorus per kg wet weight per day, represented 10-20 % of ingested...

Contamination chimique des sédiments des lagunes méditerranéennes françaises - Bilan de la Campagne ROCCHSED 2017 ArchiMer

le Réseau d’Observation de la Contamination Chimique (ROCCH) évalue la qualité chimique du milieu marin à partir des concentrations en contaminants mesurées dans la chair de mollusques et dans le compartiment superficiel fin des sédiments prélevés sur les fonds. La campagne ROCCHSED2017 est la 4ème campagne d’échantillonnage dans les lagunes méditerranéennes françaises. Elle a permis la mesure de concentrations en éléments traces métalliques et en contaminants organiques (sur la base des listes des réglementations en vigueur) dans les sédiments de 13 lagunes.

Le projet DIETE a exploré les données hydrobiologiques (paramètres physico-chimiques, nutriments, phytoplancton) acquises depuis les années 80 dans les eaux côtières au large de la Loire et de la Vilaine, parallèlement à celles des deux fleuves. L’augmentation des concentrations de nitrates dans les eaux de la Loire, appuyée par les réserves sédimentaires de phosphates et de silicate ont entraîné de profonds bouleversements dans la dynamique du phytoplancton de la baie de Vilaine ces deux dernières décennies avec 1) une augmentation substantielle de la biomasse, 2) une modification importante de l’évolution saisonnière, 3) un changement dans les proportions entre diatomées et dinoflagellés au profit des diatomées. Etude expérimentale de la fertilité des eaux des milieux conchylicoles : influence de l'excretion des huîtres et des palourdes sur la production des diatomées dominantes ArchiMer

L'impact de l'excrétion de Mollusques Bivalves cultivés sur la croissance de Diatomées dans les zones conchylicoles est étudié expérimentalement. Les Huîtres et les Palourdes enrichissent les eaux où elles séjournent en ammoniaque, urée, acides aminés et autres substances azotées ainsi qu'en phosphore minéral et organique dissous. En conséquence, la fertilité potentielle des eaux pour trois Diatomées des milieux conchylicoles est améliorée. De plus, les algues bénéficient parfois d'apports complémentaires de vitamines et de métaux de la part des Mollusques. Les Diatomées prélèvent les nitrates simultanément à l'ammoniaque. Etude Sédimentaire Appliquée à l'Aquaculture pour Cinq Estrans de Bretagne Sud (Morbihan et Loire Atlantique). ArchiMer

Within the national molluscan monitoring network, a sedimentary study was carried out on five experimental sites located in southern Brittany (i.e., from Etel to Pen-Bé rivers). The study aimed to specify sediment integrating characteristics with regards to hydrobiological variables. Moreover, interactions between sediment and water column characteristics were specified. It appears that this approach is likely unappropriate to characterize interdical rearing area productivity. However, this approach can support the site evaluation on a long term basis to sustain shellfish culture management. This would require additional study to assess sediment reactivity to abnormal events like drastic salinity decrease.

Influence de l'azote et du phosphore sur la croissance et la toxicité de Prorocentrum lima (Ehrenberg) Dodge ArchiMer

Very few attempts have been made in order to investigate the role of nutrients on cellular growth and toxin production in dinoflagellates associated with DSP (Diarrhetic Shellfish Poison). Some preliminary results are presented here, aiming at a better knowledge of inorganic nitrogen and organic phosphorus effects upon division rate and toxin content of Prorocentrum lima (PL2V spanish strain). Nitrogen have a positive effect on growth rate, up to a threshold value of 880muM.l-1. Above this threshold the rate decreases. There is no effect on toxin content since okadaic acid and DTX1 cell contents remain low (4.8 +/- 0.5 pg.cell.-1) and steady. Influence of oyster farming Crassostrea gigas on the phosphate cycle in an intertidal zone : the role of biodeposition ArchiMer

Some aspects of the phosphorus cycle were studied in the estuarine bay of Marennes, Oléron, an area of intensive cultivation of Crassostrea gigas on the west coast of France. The annual cycle of dissolved phosphorus (mineral and organic) in the water column, interstitial water and at the sediment-water interface was followed, as well as the particulate phosphorus (total and assimilable) in sediments and in suspension. A comparison of the seasonal variations in these different forms of phosphorus in the suspended matters shows a deficit in "biodeposits" (sedimented faeces and pseudofaeces from Crassostrea gigas) equivalent to 20 mg.m -2.d -1 for assimilable phosphorus in July and September-October. Les politiques publiques mises en place pour la reconquête de la bonne qualité des écosystèmes lagunaires se sont attachées à réduire les intrants d’éléments nutritifs (N et P). Before reaching the ocean, riverine particles from the Loire watershed undergo important chemical transformations in the estuary. This study aims to identify and characterize main processes involving iron (and to a lesser extent Al, Mn, PO4 3- and rare earths elements). Suspended particulate matter data show that 15% of their iron is lost through the estuary. Reductive iron dissolution during deposition periods is likely to explain most of this loss. However, estuarine sediments are characterized by high spatial heterogeneity due to macrofaunal activities. Using geochronology to reconstruct the evolution of particulate phosphorus inputs during the past century in the Papeete Lagoon (French Polynesia) ArchiMer

During the past century, the sediment deposition rate has been assessed by measuring excess Pb-210 activity in a sediment core sampled in the harbour area of the Papeete Lagoon (Tahiti, French Polynesia). Dated sediment samples were analysed following a sequential extraction method to quantify five sedimentary phosphorus pools: loosely sorbed or exchangeable phosphorus, ferric iron-bound phosphorus, authigenic calcium carbonate associated phosphorus, detrital apatite and detritic inorganic phosphorus, acid organic phosphorus. Voluntary feed intake, nitrogen and phosphorus losses in rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) fed increasing dietary levels of soy protein concentrate ArchiMer

High energy extruded diets were formulated to contain the same level of protein supplied either by soy protein concentrate (SPC) or fish meal. Three experiments were performed in order to measure voluntary feed intake and feed waste, faecal losses and soluble losses of nitrogen and phosphorus in rainbow trout (average body weight: 100 g). Voluntary feed intake and growth performance of fish fed with demand feeders were not different when diets contained 0, 50 or 75 % SPC instead of fish meal. Total replacement of fish meal by SPC led to a significant decrease in feed intake and resulted in poor growth. This was partly due to methionine deficiency in the SPC based diet.
