A study of chlorophyll-like and phycobilin pigments in the C endosymbiont of the apple- snail Pomacea canaliculata Biocell
Vega,Israel A.; Dellagnola,Federico A.; Hurst,Jorge A.; Godoy,Martín S.; Castro-Vazquez,Alfredo.
Pigments present in the brown-greenish C morph of an intracellular endosymbiont of Pomacea canaliculata were investigated. Acetone extracts of the endosymbiotic corpuscles showed an absorption spectrum similar to that of chlorophylls. Three fractions obtained from silica gel column chromatography of the acetone extracts (C I, C II and C III), were studied by positive ion fast atom bombardment-mass spectrometry (FAB-MS) and hydrogen-nuclear magnetic resonance (H-NMR). Results indicated the presence of (1) a sterol in the yellow colored C I fraction; (2) a mixture of pheophorbides a and b in the major green fraction, C II; and (3) a modified pheophorbide a in the smaller green fraction, C III. Aqueous extracts of the C endosymbiont did not show evidence of...

Betacyanin and antioxidant system in tolerance to salt stress in Alternanthera philoxeroides Agrociencia
Ribeiro,Márcia Vaz; Deuner,Sidnei; Benitez,Letícia Carvalho; Einhardt,Andersom Milech; Peters,José A.; Braga,Eugenia J. Bolacel.
Salinity is a limiting factor fot growth and development, since it affects several physiological processes in plants. This trial aimed to assess the levels of photosynthetic pigments, betacyanins, lipid peroxidation and activity of antioxidant enzymes in Alternanthera philoxeroides under salt stress. Plants originated from an in vitro culture were acclimatized and irrigated with sodium chloride (0, 200 and 400 mM) for 30 d. The experimental design was completely randomized with a 3×2 factorial arrangement of treatments: three concentrations of NaCl and two plant tissues (stems and leaves). The experimental data was subjected to an analysis of variance and means where compared using Tukey test (p≤0.05). The levels of chlorophylls a, chlorophylls b...

EFFECT OF FOLIAR APPLICATION OF AMINOACIDS ON PLANT YIELD AND SOME PHYSIOLOGICAL PARAMETERS IN BEAN PLANTS IRRIGATED WITH SEAWATER Acta biol.Colomb.
SH SADAK,Mervat; ABDELHAMID,Magdi T; SCHMIDHALTER,Urs.
Salinity decreases yield in arid and semi-arid areas. With increasing demand for irrigation water, alternative sources are being sought. Seawater salinity was previously considered unusable for irrigation. However, this water can be used successfully to grow crops under certain conditions. Amino acids is well known biostimulant which has positive effects on plant growth and yield, and significantly mitigates the injuries caused by abiotic stresses. Therefore, in the present study, the effect of exogenously treatment amino acid on faba bean plant growing under seawater salt stress was investigated. Reduction of salinity damage in faba bean by using a mixture of amino acids to improve morphological and biochemical parameters, and thus raising the level of...

Tournier, Henri; Pichot, Yves.
This study concerns the determination of phytoplanktonic pigment concentrations in the lagoon of Thau at 14 sampling stations which were surveyed 36 times during 1986. The evolution of the main pigment chlorophyll a)is described for the whole year. The object of this work is to determine if the phytoplanktonic pigment abundance is related to the nutritive richness of the lagoon water where oysters and mussels are bred.

Short-term interactions between phytoplankton and intertidal seagrass vegetation in a coastal lagoon (Bassin d'Arcachon, SW France) ArchiMer
De Wit, Rutger; Troussellier, Marc; Courties, Claude; Buffan-dubau, Evelyne; Lemaire, Emmanuelle.
We experimentally simulated the temporality of the interactions between intertidal seagrasses and phytoplankton in the context of nutrient enrichment from continental origin. Phytoplankton development was retarded after 1-day exposure to intertidal Zostera noltii Hornemann vegetation samples, with respect to control treatments. This was not explained by resource competition and we hypothesized a direct interference between seagrass leaves and phytoplankton. After separation from the vegetation in 5-day incubations, the final yield of large phytoplankton, mainly diatoms and haptophytes, was determined by nutrient loading. In contrast, Synechococcus-like cells (SYN), phototrophic picoeukaryotes and nanophytoplankton decreased after day 3, most likely due to...

Suivi de quelques facteurs environnementaux dans les pertuis Charentais : de 1992 à 1994 ArchiMer
Arnaud, Christophe.
A study of the environmental factors in the "pertuis charentais" (charentais straits) has been carried out from 1993 tc 1994. The evolution of water temperature and salinity, as weil as the turbidity, are studied. ln the middle of Breton Strait, near to the long lines, the stratification has not been observed, and the salinity variations are much less sharp than in the stations which are located nearer the coast. The photosynthetic pigments concentrations can be very different in the same time at two close stations; in the Antioch Strait and at the long lines, the values of chlorophyll "a" are comparable; they are much higher in the Breton Strait. At the same time, a study has been made on the physical factors, the photosynthetic pigments concentrations,...

The interaction of high copper and zinc doses in acid soil changes the physiological state and development of the root system in young grapevines (Vitis vinifera). Repositório Alice
TIECHER, T. L; SORIANI, H. H.; TIECHER, T.; CERETTA, C. A.; NICOLOSO, F. T.; TAROUCO, C. P.; CLASEN, B. E.; DE CONTI, L.; TASSINARI, A.; MELO, G. W. B. de; BRUNETTO, G..
Old vineyards may present high copper (Cu) content in the soil due to the frequent application of Bordeaux fungicide to control leaf fungal diseases. Thus, many wine makers replace copper fungicides by those made of zinc (Zn) and it leads to the accumulation of these two elements in vineyard soils, fact that may potentiate the occurrence of physiological disorders and morphological changes in the plant root system. The aim of the current study was to assess the effects of high Cu and Zn contents in a sandy acid soil on the physiological state and development of the root system in young grapevines. The soil was taken from a vineyard from Southern Brazil, and then it was sieved and had its acidity and P and K contents corrected. Next, the soil was subjected...
