Conservation of Williams pear using edible coating with alginate and carrageenan Ciênc. Tecnol. Aliment.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the physical and chemical parameters of Williams pear, stored at 25 ºC for 15 days, with and without edible coating. Edible coatings prepared with alginate 2% and carrageenan 0.5% were tested. The analyses carried out on the samples were: weight loss, pH, soluble solids, firmness, and color. The edible coatings were characterized in terms of mechanical properties, permeability, thickness, and opacity. The results show that the application of edible coatings with carrageenan and alginate in pears influenced physical and chemical characteristics such as weight loss, pH, total soluble solids, color, and firmness of the fruit. Para caracterizar la miel existen diferentes métodos destructivos y no destructivos, donde se puede obtener información útil sobre las sustancias que la componen. Los métodos destructivos que se utilizaron en esta investigación fueron el análisis fisicoquímico y el análisis melisopalinológico. El objetivo de este trabajo fue caracterizar mieles tabasqueñas procedentes de diferentes regiones geográficas y diferente vegetación, mediante las técnicas antes mencionadas. The aim of this research was to analyze and compare 17 honey samples, 11 organic and six non-organic Apis mellifera honey. The samples were analyzed concerning moisture, hydroxymethylfurfural, diastase index, water activity, color, total sugar, reducing sugar, sucrose, ash, viscosity, electrical conductivity, pH, acidity, and formol index. With the exception of acidity, reducing sugar and diastase index, the averages of other parameters were different between the two groups. All samples of organic honey presented moisture values between 23.50 and 24.40%. This study aimed to evaluate sugarcane (Saccharum officinarum L) silage treated with calcium hydroxide - Ca(OH)2 - (slacked lime) as the only roughage source in a feedlot ration, regarding animal performance and meat quality. Forty five Canchim steers (22 months old, 345 kg body weight - BW) were assigned, in a complete randomized block design, to three treatments (total mixed rations - TMRs - with 35% roughage): T1- TMR with fresh sugarcane; T2 - TMR with sugarcane silage treated with calcium hydroxide (10 g Ca(OH)2/kg of fresh forage); T3 - TMR with corn silage.
