Adjust of regression models to estimate the rectal temperature of broilers for the first 14 days of life REA
Ponciano,Patrícia F.; Yanagi Junior,Tadayuki; Lima,Renato R. de; Schiassi,Leonardo; Teixeira,Vitor H..
The broiler rectal temperature (t rectal) is one of the most important physiological responses to classify the animal thermal comfort. Therefore, the aim of this study was to adjust regression models in order to predict the rectal temperature (t rectal) of broiler chickens under different thermal conditions based on age (A) and a meteorological variable (air temperature - t air) or a thermal comfort index (temperature and humidity index -THI or black globe humidity index - BGHI) or a physical quantity enthalpy (H). In addition, through the inversion of these models and the expected t rectal intervals for each age, the comfort limits of t air, THI, BGHI and H for the chicks in the heating phase were determined, aiding in the validation of the equations and...

Genetic fuzzy system for prediction of respiratory rate of chicks subject to thermal challenges AGRIAMBI
Ferraz,Patrícia F. P.; Yanagi Junior,Tadayuki; Hernandez-Julio,Yamid F.; Ferraz,Gabriel A. e S.; Silva,Maria A. J. G.; Damasceno,Flavio A..
ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to estimate and compare the respiratory rate (breath min-1) of broiler chicks subjected to different heat intensities and exposure durations for the first week of life using a Fuzzy Inference System and a Genetic Fuzzy Rule Based System. The experiment was conducted in four environmentally controlled wind tunnels and using 210 chicks. The Fuzzy Inference System was structured based on two input variables: duration of thermal exposure (in days) and dry bulb temperature (°C), and the output variable was respiratory rate. The Genetic Fuzzy Rule Based System set the parameters of input and output variables of the Fuzzy Inference System model in order to increase the prediction accuracy of the respiratory rate values. The two...

Psycological and physiological responses to stress: a review based on results from PET and MRI studies BABT
Cortez,Célia Martins; Cruz,Frederico Alan de Oliveira; Silva,Dilson.
A new application for the nuclear imaging techniques is the study of organic responses to stress. Neuroimaging techniques allow the assessment of brain activation changes in association with the metabolic responses to stress. In this paper, a review of general effects of the stress on organic activity is made, emphasizing important advances introduced by studies using PET and fMRI. The importance of the hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal axis to onset the adequate psychical and organic responses to sustain the homeostasis during the stress is discussed, as well as the possibility of traumatic stressing experiences have negative effects on the brain.

Pupillary stress index: A new thermal comfort index for crossbred goats AGRIAMBI
Lopes Neto,José P.; Marques,Jordânio I.; Furtado,Dermeval A.; Lopes,Fernanda F. de M.; Borges,Valéria P.; Araújo,Tiago G. P..
ABSTRACT Goats are homeothermic animals considered as rustic from the bioclimatic point of view, but the reduction of their productive efficiency may occur in unfavorable thermal conditions. The present study was carried out to evaluate pupil dilation as an indicator of thermal stress in Boer crossbred goats maintained under controlled environmental conditions. Six male crossbred goats of the Boer breed were distributed in a completely randomized design submitted to temperatures of 26, 29 and 33 °C. The pupillary dilation and pupillary temperature, respiratory frequency, heart rate, surface and rectal temperatures were monitored. The significant increase in physiological responses occurred in response to the increase in air temperature. An increase of...

Responses of Plants to Pesticide Toxicity: an Overview Planta Daninha
SHARMA,A.; KUMAR,V.; THUKRAL,A.K.; BHARDWAJ,R..
ABSTRACT: Pesticides are applied all over the world to protect plants from pests. However, their application also causes toxicity to plants, which negatively affects the growth and development of plants. Pesticide toxicity results in reduction of chlorophyll and protein contents, accompanied by decreased photosynthetic efficiency of plants. Pesticide stress also generates reactive oxygen species which causes oxidative stress to plants. To attenuate the negative effects of oxidative stress, the antioxidative defense system of plants gets activated, and it includes enzymatic antioxidants as well as non-enzymatic antioxidants. The present review gives an overview of various physiological responses of plants under pesticide toxicity in tabulated form.
