| Foram avaliados os efeitos da substituição do farelo de soja pela mistura uréia mais mandioca, em rações constituídas de palma, silagem de sorgo e concentrado, sobre concentrações de uréia, balanço de nitrogênio (N) e estimativas de perdas endógenas totais em 8 vacas Girolando em lactação, distribuídas em dois quadrados latinos simultâneos (4x4). As concentrações de uréia e N-uréico no plasma e leite, em mg/dL e N-uréico no leite (g/dia) não foram afetadas pelo aumento do nível de uréia na ração, apresentando médias de 31,37; 14,62; 37,43; 17,44; 5,37. As excreções urinárias de uréia e N-uréico também não foram influenciadas, com médias de 249,45 e 116,24 mg/kg PV. | Determinaram-se os melhores valores do balanço eletrolítico (BE) de dietas para frangos quanto aos teores de cálcio, fósforo e proteína total no sangue de frangos de corte aos 42 dias de idade. Foram utilizadas 1728 aves de marca comercial, machos. As aves foram alimentadas com duas dietas basais, 20 ou 23% de proteína bruta (PB), na fase inicial, e uma única ração basal, 20% de PB, na fase de crescimento, combinadas com níveis de balanço eletrolítico de 0; 50; 100; 150; 200; 250; 300 e 350mEq/kg. | It is well known that an injection of prostaglandin F2α (PGF2α) or its analogue during the mid luteal phase of the estrous cycle induces a rapid decrease in plasma progesterone (P4) concentration, followed by luteolysis in the cow. There is evidence that a potent vasoactive peptide, endothelin-1 (ET-1), is produced in the bovine corpus luteum (CL), and that it is directly involved in luteolysis. We previously found that ET-1 concentrations in the peripheral plasma increase during the period of luteolysis and ovulation in cows. | The innate immune activity of the freshwater turtle Phrynops geoffroanus (Schweigger, 1812) was investigated, using a sheep-red-blood cell hemolysis assay. The time- and concentration-dependent hemolytic activity of the turtle plasma was low compared to that reported for other reptiles. However the plasma of P. geoffroanus exhibited higher activity at elevated temperatures, resulting in temperature-dependent hemolysis. The sensitivity of turtle plasma to temperature could be interpreted as a mechanism by which freshwater turtles use basking behavior to elevate body temperature, thus enhancing the innate immune response. | Body fluid ionic content of fishes varies with ambient. Variations in the plasmatic ionic concentration have also been related with sex or maturation cycle, once that reproduction modifies metabolic processes. In fishes, the gallbladder is an important osmoregulatory organ. So, the present work has been focused on the relation of plasmatic and biliar electrolytes with sex and maturation cycle, of the teleost fish Prochilodus scrofa at the resting and mature stages of gonadal cycle. | A liquid chromatography method was developed and validated for the determination of gemifloxacin in human plasma using chloramphenicol as internal standard to achieve lower quantification limit. Acetonitrile was used to precipitated and extracted analyte and internal standard from plasma by Protein Precipitation. Analysis was performed isocratically on C18 column using 25% acetonitrile and 75% 0.02 M phosphate buffer as mobile phase. The method was demonstrated to be linear from 0.003 µg/mL to 5 µg/mL with the lower limit of quantitation of 0.003 µg/mL. The method was successfully applied for the bioequivalence study of gemifloxacin after a single oral administration of 320 mg gemifloxacin mesylate tablets to 12 healthy volunteers. |

| This study evaluates the effects of an acute treatment with a Centella asiatica (CA) extract on the biodistribution of the radiopharmaceutical Na99mTcO4 and on the fixation of technetium-99m on blood constituents. Wistar rats were treated with CA extract and, 1 hour after, Na99mTcO4 was administered; organs/tissues were withdrawn and weighted. The radioactivity was counted to calculate the percentage of activity per gram (%ATI/g). | Currently, the use of alternative energy ingredients for horses has increased because these foods contain "superfibers", making safer diet for these animals. To study the influence of diets containing increasing levels of citrus pulp on albumin, triglycerides, cholesterol, glucose, insulin and short chain fatty acid (SCFA) concentrations in the blood, five animals were used, with an average age of 3.5 years and a live weight of 460.66±76.86 kg, they were fed twice a day, at 7:00 am and 4:00 pm. | A rheacultura vem crescendo em todo o Brasil. Porém, ainda há uma escassez de informações sobre esta espécie e de médicos veterinários especializados na área. Este trabalho teve como objetivo verificar as diferenças existentes na eletroforese plasmática (gel de agarose) em idades distintas de emas (Rhea americana). | Um experimento foi conduzido para avaliar o efeito da substituição parcial ou total do plasma sangüíneo por hidrolisado de mucosa intestinal de suínos (HI) em dietas para leitões de 21 a 49 dias. Cento e quarenta leitões desmamados aos 21,7 ± 2,9 dias com peso médio de 5,54 ± 0,65 kg foram distribuídos em um delineamento experimental de blocos ao acaso, com cinco tratamentos, sete repetições e quatro animais por unidade experimental. | Foram utilizados, no experimento, nove caprinos machos castrados, da raça Alpina, em dois períodos. Os animais permaneceram 28 dias em dieta experimental composta de feno e concentrado, sem suplementação de P, ou com 1g ou 2 g de P, na forma de fosfato bicálcico. No 21º dia os animais receberam injeção de 7,4 MBq de 32P na jugular, e coletaram-se amostras de sangue, fezes e urina, por sete dias, com o objetivo de avaliar o metabolismo do P.
