Delimited degraded soil areas caused by an improper land preparation before vine plantation and or management can be observed in conventional and organic European vineyards. Soil malfunctioning including: poor organic matter content, imbalanced nutritional status, altered pH, water deficiency, soil compaction and/or scarce oxygenation. The goal of the present study was to compare the effects of some agronomic strategies to restore optimal soil functionality in degraded areas in organic commercial vineyards located in five countries, and to evaluate the impact of these soil management practices on vegetative growth, yield and grape quality parameters. Potatoes are very suitable for direct marketing thanks to their diversity. Good yields are necessary to cover the high costs for cultivation and mechanisation. The very high-quality demands in every marketing sector require the most careful maintenance, which includes preparation of planting material, plant protection, nutrient and water supply as well as harvest and storage. This manual provides a good basis to achieve high-quality products. Experienced organic potato farmers can enhance their knowledge with specialist advice and additional literature.

Silomais im Ökolandbau: Einflüsse von Saattermin, Gülledüngung und Unkrautregulierung Organic Eprints

In zwei Berichten zu jeweils mehrjährigen Feldversuchen werden Einflüsse von Saattermin, Gülledüngung sowie Maßnahmen zur Unkrautregulierung auf Ertrag und Qualität von Silomais im ökologischen Landbau geprüft. Ein früher Saattermin erhöht die TM-Erträge. Alle geprüften Ausbringungsverfahren an Rindergülle (vor Saat breitflächig, Unterfußdüngung, 2-Blattstadium Injektion, 6-8-Blattstadium Schleppschlauch) sind praxistauglich und führen zu höheren Erträgen und besseren Qualitäten. Die Feldversuche zeigen, dass je nach vorhandener Technik verschiedene Strategien der Unkrautregulierung erfolgreich umgesetzt werden können.

Legume foot and root diseases are influenced by complex interactions of site, soil properties, seed health, cropping sequence and climate. Crop rotation, cover crops and organic matter management are the key management tools in the dealing with the increase pathogen pressure. Application of high quality composts and other organic amendments is potential ecologically friendly alternative to fungicide application for control of soil-borne fungal pathogens.
