A brief review of nutritional studies for Penaeus monodon ArchiMer

In order to develop effective formulated for Penaeus monodon , sufficient information is needed on its nutritional requirements. Unfortunately, research on this area has been very limited. This paper outlines the results of such research. Since data on the nutritional requirements of P. japonicus are relatively well established, some of these data are also reviewed in this paper and are used as a basis for assessing the nutritional requirements of P. monodon . Protein, lipid, carbohydrate, mineral and vitamin requirements are evaluated from the parameters of growth survival and feed efficiency. Studies on the effects of enzymes and the development of microparticulate diet for larvae are also summarized.

Resistance training evokes myocardial adaptation; however, the effects of a single resistance exercise session on cardiac performance are poorly understood or investigated. This study aimed to investigate the effects of a single resistance exercise session on the myocardial contractility of spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHRs). Male 3-month-old SHRs were divided into two groups: control (Ct) and exercise (Ex). Control animals were submitted to sham exercise. Blood pressure was measured in conscious rats before the exercise session to confirm the presence of arterial hypertension. En el presente trabajo se estudia la capacidad antioxidante de varios extractos, acuosos e hidro-alcohólicos obtenidos a partir de algas y plantas marinas de la plataforma insular cubana. A todos los extractos se les determinó su contenido de polifenoles, proteínas, lípidos y azúcares totales, así como la actividad Superóxido Dismutasa (SOD). Todos los extractos evaluados mostraron una buena actividad antioxidante, con una CE50 inferior de 0,4 mg.ml-1. El contenido de polifenoles en los extractos de Ulva fasciata es menor el de las otras especies, aunque tanto el extracto hidro-alcohólico como el del alga seca e irradiada de dicha especie presentan una buena actividad antioxidante. Amino acid sequences of proteins from Leptospira serovar pomona. Repositório Alice

This report describes a partial amino acid sequences from three putative outer envelope proteins from Leptospira serovar pomona. In order to obtain internal fragments for protein sequencing, enzymatic and chemical digestion was performed. The enzyme clostripain was used to digest the proteins 32 and 45kDa. In situ digestion of 40kDa molecular weight protein was accomplished using cyanogen bromide. The 32kDa protein generated two fragments, one of 21kDa and another of 10kDa that yielded five residues. A fragment of 24 kDa that yielded nineteen residues of amino acids was obtained from 45 kDa protein. A fragment with a molecular weight of 20 kDa, yielding a twenty amino acids sequence from the 40kDa protein.

O número de genótipos de girassol (Helianthus annuus L.) disponíveis aos agricultores é pequeno e pouco se conhece sobre os genótipos provenientes de outros países que possam ser utilizados no melhoramento genético desta cultura. O objetivo deste trabalho foi analisar a variabilidade genética de 31 acessos e de cinco cultivares nos sistemas isoenzimáticos fosfoglicomutase (PGM), 6-fosfogliconato desidrogenase (PGD), fosfoglicoisomerase (PGI) e esterase (EST). Utilizou-se a técnica de eletroforese em gel de amido/penetrose para o fracionamento das isoenzimas da PGM, PGI e PGD e focalização isoelétrica para EST. Analysis of proteins associated with storage root formation in cassava using two-dimensional gel electrophoresis Rev. Bras. Fisiol. Veg.

Two-dimensional gel electrophoresis analysis was performed on adventitious and storage root in cassava (Manihot esculenta Crantz). Adventitious root lacking swelling formation and swelled storage root were obtained from the accession WU104 grown in the green house of the Department of Biology in Washington University in St. Louis (MO-USA). Saline buffer-soluble proteins were extracted, separated in a high-resolution 2-D electrophoresis system, visualized with silver staining gel procedure, and digital image generate for further analysis. Apparent digestibility coefficients (ADCs) of nine protein ingredients were determined for pirarucu Arapaima gigas, a Neotropical fish species with great aquaculture potential in the Amazon. ADCs of crude protein, energy and dry matter were determined by feces sedimentation in cylindrical-conical tanks. Experimental diets were composed of 795 g kg-1 of the reference diet, 5 g kg-1 of chromic oxide and 200 g kg-1 of the following test ingredients: fish by-product meal, salmon by-product meal, poultry by-product meal, hydrolyzed feather meal, meat and bone meal, blood meal, soybean meal, corn gluten meal and corn gluten feed. ABSTRACT: This study aimed to develop and characterize beverages formulated with whey protein and added lutein. Beverages formulated with 0.5 (F1), 2.0 (F2), 4.0 (F3) and 6.0% w/v (F4) whey protein were physicochemically and microbiologically characterized, and sensory evaluated. The physicochemical analyses indicated that the protein content significantly changed (P<0.05) the acidity values, soluble solids and the colorimetric coordinates, making possible to adjust mathematical models for all these variables. Microbiological analyses showed no significant contamination (P<0.05) during processing that would compromise drinks quality of the drinks. Biochemical and isoenzyme analyses of elephant grass, Pennisetum purpureum (Schum) varieties Scientia Agricola

This study characterized seven Pennisetum purpureum varieties, namely v. Anão, Bajra, Cameroon, Guaçu, Roxo, Taiwan A-144 and Uruckwami, through biochemical analyses, including protein, glucose and fructose contents, and polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis using the esterase system, by sampling 30, 60, 90, 120 and 150 day-old leaves. The number of nodes per stem and the percentage of bud emergence were also recorded. Variety Taiwan A-144 presented the highest number of nodes per stem and percentage of emerging buds. The objectives of this work were to analyze seeds from 20 trees of aroeira (Myracrodruon urundeuva Fr. All.) of a natural population located in the region of Selvíria, State of Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil, in order to evaluate their protein, lipid and carbohydrate contents, and to estimate their genetic variation. A completely randomized experimental design consisting of 20 treatments (families) was set up, with two replications. Four types of proteins were detected: albumin (35.0 to 107.3 mg/g seed), globulin (3.4 to 9.3 mg/g), prolamin (60.0 to 135.2 mg/g) and glutelin (118.0 to 286.0 mg/g). The oral administration of proteic antigens, like ovalbumin, may result in the induction of oral tolerance or immunization. The aim of this work was to label a protein antigen with 99mTechnetium, encapsulate it in liposomes and investigate its absorption and tissue distribution after oral administration in mice. Ovalbumin was labeled with 99mTechnetium and encapsulated in small unilamellar vesicles. 99mTc-OVA encapsulated or not in liposomes was administrated to mice that were sacrificed after different times. The radioactivity was measured in various organs of the animals. Differences concerning the biodistribution of 99mTc-OVA were noticed. The technique may represent alternatives for the induction of immunization or oral tolerance.

En la producción de hongos comestibles se utilizan diversos residuos agroindustriales como la paja de cebada, trigo y avena. Como resultado del cultivo, se producen grandes cantidades de sustrato residual, el cual puede potencialmente ser usado para procesos de biorremediación in situ. En el presente estudio, se cultivó el hongo comestible Pleurotus ostreatus (CP-50) en presencia del hidrocarburo aromático policíclico, antraceno. La cepa se cultivó en tres condiciones: 1) Agar con Extracto de Malta (EMA), CP-50 y antraceno (tratamiento); 2) EMA y CP-50 (testigo) y 3) EMA y antraceno (blanco).
