Critical-point models to relate yield and disease intensity of the multiple pathosystem in rice leaf spots disease Ciência Rural
Bordin,Luiz Carlos; Casa,Ricardo Trezi; Marcuzzo,Leandro Luiz; Reis,Erlei Melo; Gheller,André; Zancan,Rômulo Luís; Fingstag,Maiquiel Diego.
ABSTRACT: The occurrence of leaf spots in irrigated rice can reduce the yield and compromise the quality of the grain. However it is unknown the economic damage threshold (EDT) that these spots cause the yield of crop. The objective of this study was to obtain damage functions for models of critical, to relate damage by simultaneous occurrence of blast, brown spot and scald spot with grain yield harvests in 2011/12 and 2012/2013, in Rio do Oeste, Santa Catarina State, Brazil. Gradient of diseases intensity was generated by number of applications and fungicides rates. Design was a randomized block with four replications and six treatments consisting of mixing fungicide applications of triazole (difenoconazole) and strobilurin (azoxystrobin). In 2011/12 and...

DNA tagging of blast resistant gene(s) in three Brazilian rice cultivars Genet. Mol. Biol.
Sandhu,S.S.; Colombo,Carlos; Bastos,Cândido R.; Siqueira,Walter J..
Rice blast is the most important fungal disease of rice and is caused by Pyricularia oryzae Sacc. (Telomorph Magnoporthe grisea Barr.). Seven randomly amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) markers OPA5, OPG17, OPG18, OPG19, OPF9, OPF17 and OPF19 showed very clear polymorphism in resistant cultivar lines which differed from susceptible lines. By comparing different susceptible lines, nine DNA amplifications of seven primers (OPA5(1000), OPA5(1200,) OPG17(700), OPG18(850), OPG19(500), OPG19(600), OPF9(600), OPF17(1200) and OPF19(600)) were identified as dominant markers for the blast resistant gene in resistant cultivar lines. These loci facilitate the indirect scoring of blast resistant and blast susceptible genotypes. The codomine RAPDs markers will facilitate...

Effect of root and leaf applications of soluble silicon on blast development in rice Bragantia
Cacique,Isaias Severino; Domiciano,Gisele Pereira; Moreira,Wiler Ribas; Rodrigues,Fabrício Ávila; Cruz,Maria Fernanda Antunes; Serra,Núria Sierras; Català,Ana Botta.
Blast, caused by Pyricularia oryzae, is the most important fungal disease of rice worldwide. This study aimed to compare root and foliar supply of soluble silicon (Si) on rice resistance to blast. The application of soluble Si to the roots increased Si concentration in leaf tissues as compare to plants grown in soil amended with calcium silicate. There was no increase in leaf Si concentration after soluble Si spray, regardless if the leaves were washed or not before analysis. X-ray microanalysis revealed that Si deposition was very similar on the leaf epidermis of plants sprayed with soluble Si, root amended with soluble Si or grown in soil amended with calcium silicate. The lesion size, the number of lesions per cm² of leaf and the area under blast...

Histochemical aspects of wheat resistance to leaf blast mediated by silicon Scientia Agricola
Silva,Washington Luís da; Cruz,Maria Fernanda Antunes; Fortunato,Alessandro Antônio; Rodrigues,Fabrício Ávila.
Blast, caused by Pyricularia oryzae, has become a significant disease threat to wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) in Brazil. This study aimed to investigate at the histochemical level if silicon (Si) could enhance the production of flavonoids in the leaves of wheat plants in response to P. oryzae infection. Plants from the Aliança cultivar, which are susceptible to blast, were grown in hydroponic cultures containing 0 (-Si) or 2 mM of Si (+Si) and inoculated by spraying a conidial suspension of P. oryzae (1 × 105 conidia mL−1) on all adaxial leaf surfaces of plants at 60 days after emergence (growth stage 65). The fourth and fifth leaves of each plant were used to evaluate blast severity at 24, 36, 48, 72 and 96 h after inoculation (hai). At 96 hai, leaves were...

Relationship between blast severity on seedlings and panicles of Brazilian oat cultivars Ciência Rural
Danelli,Anderson Luiz Durante; Maciel,João Leodato Nunes; Boaretto,Cristina; Cruz,Christian; Castro,Ricardo Lima de; Forcelini,Carlos Alberto.
ABSTRACT: Blast, caused by Pyricularia oryzae, threats black (Avena strigosa) and white (A. sativa) oats in Brazil. Little is known about the reaction of Brazilian oat cultivars to blast and if there is a relationship between the response of cultivars to the disease at seedling and adult plant stages. The goals of this research were to verify (a) the reaction of black and white Brazilian oat cultivars to infection of P. oryzae and (b) if the response to blast on seedling leaves and panicles was correlated. Seedlings and adult plants of 13 oat cultivars were inoculated with a conidial suspension of one P. oryzae isolate obtained from a black oat cultivar. The cultivars were classified according to blast severity on the leaf seedlings and panicles estimated...
