Functional relationships between leaf structure and photosynthetic traits as modulated by irradiance and nutrient availability in a sclerophyllous and a non-sclerophyllous mediterranean oak species Inra

Plasticity of structural and physiological leaf traits elicited by irradiance and soil nutrients was investigated in two sympatric mediterranean oaks: a sclerophyllous (Quercus suber L.) and a non-sclerophyllous species (Q. canariensis Willd.). Seedlings were grown for 2 years in pots in a 2-way crossed factors design. Leaf mass-to-arearatio (LMA) and nitrogen were recorded, and photosynthetic capacity (i.e. the apparent maximal carboxylation rate by rubisco, Vcmax) was derived from response curves ofnet CO2 assimilation (A) versus intercellular CO2 mol fraction (Ci). Responses of photosynthesis to high temperatures in oak saplings assessed by chlorophyll-a fluorescence: inter-specific diversity and temperature-induced plasticity Inra

La sensibilité de la photosynthèse à des températures élevées a été étudiée chez cinq espèces de chênes: trois méditerranéennes (Quercus canariensis Willd., Q. coccifera L. et Q. suber L.) et deux tempérées (Q. robur L. et Q. petraea Matt. Liebl.). La sensibilité aux fortes températures était estimée suivant la procédure des courbes F0T par la température critique (Tc) au dessus de la quelle la fluorescence de base de la chlorophylle (F0) augmente rapidement. Tc présente une forte capacité d'acclimatation et augmente sensiblement après une élévation modérée de la température ambiante.
