NOGUEIRA,Cláudia de Oliveira Gonçalves; OLIVEIRA,Dâmiany Pádua; FERREIRA,Paulo Ademar Avelar; PEREIRA,João Paulo de Andrade Rezende; VALE,Helson Mário Martins do; ANDRADE,Messias José Bastos de; MOREIRA,Fatima Maria de Souza.
ABSTRACT To maximize the contribution of biological nitrogen fixation in common bean, it is necessary to use bacterial strains that are more adapted, competitive, and efficient in the symbiotic process. In this regard, the aim of this study was to evaluate the agronomic efficiency (AE) of three bacterial strains isolated from acid soils with high Al content from the Amazon region in an Argissolo Vermelho Distrófico típico soil (Typic Rhodustults - USDA Classification) from the municipality of Formiga, MG, Brazil. We compared their AE to that of the reference strain CIAT 899T and of two controls without inoculation (one without and another with 80 kg ha-1 of N-urea). The results indicated that inoculation with the strains UFLA 02-100 and UFLA 02-127...

Can Bradyrhizobium strains inoculation reduce water deficit effects on peanuts? Repositório Alice
BARBOSA, D. D.; BRITO, S. L.; FERNANDES, P. D.; FERNANDES JUNIOR, P. I.; LIMA, L. M. de.
Drought is one of the environmental factors that most affects peanut cultivation in semi-arid regions, resulting in economic losses to growers. However, growth promoting bacteria are able to reduce water deficit damage in some plant species. In this context, this study aimed to evaluate the interaction of Bradyrhizobium strains reducing water stress effects on peanut genotypes by antioxidant enzymes activities, leaf gas exchanges and vegetative growth, as well as to determine the taxonomic positioning of strain ESA 123. The 16S rRNA gene of ESA 123 was amplified by PCR and sequenced by dideoxy Sanger sequencing method. An experiment was performed in greenhouse with three peanut genotypes (BRS Havana, CNPA 76 AM and 2012-4), two Bradyrhizobium strains...

The Brazilian Northeastern dry forest (Caatinga) is one of the diversification centers of Mimosa species. We determined the characteristics of native rhizobia isolates from nodules of Mimosa tenuiflora and Mimosa paraibana grown in pots with soils collected under Caatinga vegetation and compared the restriction ribosomal DNA profiles of the isolates with those of 16 reference strains. All plants formed abundant indeterminate nodules and all nodule isolates formed fast growing colonies. No colony altered the medium to an alkaline reaction and most of them produced low or medium amounts of extracellular polysaccharides. White and creamy colonies predominated among the isolates but orange and green colonies were present. Differences among the isolates from...

Exopolysaccharides produced by the symbiotic nitrogen-fixing bacteria of leguminosae Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Solo
Bomfeti,Cleide Aparecida; Florentino,Ligiane Aparecida; Guimarães,Ana Paula; Cardoso,Patrícia Gomes; Guerreiro,Mário César; Moreira,Fatima Maria de Souza.
The process of biological nitrogen fixation (BNF), performed by symbiotic nitrogen fixing bacteria with legume species, commonly known as α and β rhizobia, provides high sustainability for the ecosystems. Its management as a biotechnology is well succeeded for improving crop yields. A remarkable example of this success is the inoculation of Brazilian soybeans with Bradyrhizobium strains. Rhizobia produce a wide diversity of chemical structures of exopolysaccharides (EPS). Although the role of EPS is relatively well studied in the process of BNF, their economic and environmental potential is not yet explored. These EPS are mostly species-specific heteropolysaccharides, which can vary according to the composition of sugars, their linkages in a single...

Granada,Camille E; Strochein,Marcos; Vargas,Luciano K; Bruxel,Manuela; Sá,Enilson Luiz Saccol de; Passaglia,Luciane M.P.
This work aimed to evaluate the symbiotic compatibility and nodulation efficiency of rhizobia isolated from Desmodium incanum, Lotus corniculatus, L. subbiflorus, L. uliginosus and L. glaber plants by cross-inoculation. Twelve reference strains and 21 native isolates of rhizobia were genetically analyzed by the BOX-PCR technique, which showed a high genetic diversity among the rhizobia studied. The isolates were also characterized based on their production of indolic compounds and siderophores, as well as on their tolerance to salinity. Fifteen of the 33 rhizobia analyzed were able to produce indolic compounds, whereas 13 produced siderophores. All the tested rhizobia were sensitive to high salinity, although some were able to grow in solutions of up to 2%...

Genetic Variability and Symbiotic Efficiency of Erythrina velutina Willd. Root Nodule Bacteria from the Semi-Arid Region in Northeastern Brazil Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Solo
Menezes,Kelly Alexsandra Souza; Escobar,Indra Elena Costa; Fraiz,Ana Carla Resende; Martins,Lindete Míria Vieira; Fernandes Júnior,Paulo Ivan.
ABSTRACT Legume-rhizobia symbiosis is a cross-kingdom association that results in large amounts of nitrogen incorporated in food webs. For the Brazilian semi-arid region, data on genetic variability and symbiotic efficiency of Papilionoidae rhizobial communities are very scarce. The aim of this study was to evaluate the genetic variability and the symbiotic efficiency of eight rhizobial isolates obtained from “mulungu” (Erythrina velutina Willd.) nodules. For 16S rRNA gene sequencing, the genomic DNA was extracted using a commercial kit, amplified with universal primers, and subjected to sequencing reactions. For the isolate ESA 71, PCR amplifications for nodC and nodA genes were attempted. Rhizobial efficiency was assessed by two greenhouse experiments....

Ferreira,Linnajara de Vasconcelos Martins; Carvalho,Fernanda de; Andrade,Júlia Fonseca Colombo; Moreira,Fatima Maria de Souza.
ABSTRACT: A significant number of bacterial species, particularly in the rhizosphere, may benefit plant growth and development. This group of bacteria is known as plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR). This study identified genetically isolates of common bean nodules used to trap bacteria from Amazon pastureland and investigated their capacity of nodulating and promoting growth of common bean when inoculated or co-inoculated with CIAT899 strain (Rhizobium tropici). Two experiments were carried out in a greenhouse, in axenic conditions, using the common bean cultivar Talismã. In the first experiment, 56 PGPR strains were evaluated individually regarding growth promotion and nodulation. In the second experiment, inoculation of seven PGPR strains...

Rocha,Beatriz C. F.; Santos,Enésia O. da S.; Santos,José G. D.; Takako,Adriana K.; Castro,Fabio J..
ABSTRACT Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi and rhizobia are important components of agroecosystems and they respond to human interference. The objective of this study was to investigate native communities of those microorganisms in soil collected under the native forest, four pastures (Brachiaria brizantha, Panicum maximum, Arachis pintoi and Stylosanthes guianensis) and a fallow soil after maize cultivation, in interaction with cowpea (Vigna unguculata). The cowpea grew in a greenhouse until flowering. They were randomly distributed depending on soil, in five replications. The lowest mycorrhizal fungi sporulation and mycorrhizal root colonization occurred under the Panicum and forest soil. In the soils under forest and Stylosanthes, the cowpea did not exhibit...

Molybdenum supply and biological fixation of nitrogen by two Brazilian common bean cultivars AGRIAMBI
Silva,Alinne da; Franzini,Vinícius I.; Piccolla,Cristiano D.; Muraoka,Takashi.
ABSTRACT The common bean has been considered to have low biological nitrogen fixation capacity; however, this process can be made more effective with molybdenum (Mo) supplementation. The objective of this study was to evaluate the influence of Mo rates on the growth and biological nitrogen fixation by two Brazilian common bean cultivars using the 15N isotope dilution technique. The experiment was performed in 2014 in a completely randomized design arranged in a 5 x 3 factorial scheme, corresponding to 5 rates of Mo (control, 40, 80, 120 and 240 g ha-1), the common bean cultivars Aporé, Ouro Negro and NORH-54 (a non-nodulating common bean cultivar), and three replicates. The application of Mo and the inoculation with rhizobia strains contributed to...
