A GROSS MARGIN COMPARISON OF RETURNS TO NEMATICIDE TREATMENT IN CONTINUOUS AND ROTATION TRITICALE-SOYBEAN PRODUCTION AgEcon

A study of irrigated strip-till soybean production compared gross margins over nematicide expense for a continuous triticale-soybean system versus a two-year rotation system alternating triticale-soybean with triticale-cotton. Half of the replicated plots under each system received nematicide treatment. Gross margins were calculated using recorded yields and Georgia average market prices by marketing years. Mean gross margins for untreated plots were not significantly different between crop-sequence systems. Within each system, however, mean gross margins were significantly higher for plots not receiving nematicide treatment versus treated plots, even when treated plots produced greater yields.

ABSTRACT: Recognized as prominent among the principal pests of tomato crop, the root-knot nematode (Meloidogyne incognita) has generated much study with regards to control methods. This study aimed to assess the efficiency of biological products in decreasing the M. incognita population in tomato. Four experiments were conducted under greenhouse conditions. Two of these experiments had the purpose to determine the efficiency of NemOut™ (Bacillus subtilis + B. licheniformis + Trichoderma longibrachiatum), and the other two to assess the efficiency of other different biological products in M. incognita management. ABSTRACT: The cotton plant (Gossypium hirsutum) is affected by several diseases of economic importance, among them root-knot nematode (Meloidogyne incognita races 3 and 4). Methods to control this disease include the application of nematicides, solarization, deep plowing, crop rotation and use of antagonistic microorganisms. Among species of Bacillus, there are strains that act as bioregulators and antagonists of several pathogens. A field study was set up at Kafre – Hakim village, Giza, Governorate, Egypt, to compare the protective value of applying environmental friendly compounds with a known chemical nematicide, oxamyl, for controlling the nematode Meloidogyne incognita infecting sunflower cv. Sakha 53  and their effects on crop production and oil contents. These compounds were 1) furfural,a natural nematicide, 2) amino green 11, commercial formula of amino acids, 3) NPK, an inorganic fertilizer. Comparison of the damaging effects of Meloidogyne incognita on a resistant and susceptible cultivar of cucumber Bragantia

ABSTRACT In the present study, the damaging effects of six inoculum densities of Meloidogyne incognita were compared on a resistant (Long Green) and a highly susceptible (Mirage) cultivar of cucumber. All the inoculum densities of M. incognita resulted in significant reductions in growth and yield variables of both the cultivars over their controls. The reductions in resistant cultivar were significantly lower as compared to the highly susceptible cultivar at all inoculum levels. The highest inoculum level caused the maximum reductions in growth and yield variables while the lowest inoculum level resulted in the minimum reductions. Objetivou-se, com esse trabalho, avaliar a eficiencia de Pasteuria penetrans no controle de Meloidogyne javanica em condicoes de casa de vegetacao. Os tratamentos eram compostos de quatro niveis de inoculos de P. penetrans, o, 10x10(5), 50x10(5) e 100x10(5) endosporos/kg de solo autoclavado. Imediatamente apos a inoculacao da bacteria P. penetrans no solo autoclavado, 1.000 juvenis de segundo estadio de M. javanica foram inoculados em cada vaso. Quarenta e oito horas apos a inoculacao do nematoide, uma plantula de soja cv. FT-Cristalina, com tres dias de idade, foi transplantada para cada vaso. Abstract The introduction of rhizobacteria to the soil can be done via treatment of propagating materials. The aim of this work was to evaluate in greenhouse the influence of immersion periods of micropropagated ‘Prata-Anã’ banana seedling roots in suspension of different rhizobacterial isolates on the growth of seedlings and control of Meloidogyne javanica. The experiment was set up in greenhouse in a randomized block design in a 10 x 2 factorial scheme (rhizobacteria isolates) x (immersion periods: 60 and 120 minutes) with 10 replicates. O arroz (Oryza sativa L.) é o segundo cereal mais cultivado no mundo. O Brasil desponta como principal produtor dentre os países ocidentais, ocupando a nona posição no ranking mundial. Um complexo de espécies de nematoides das galhas (NG) foi detectado na região sul do Brasil causando danos ao cultivo de arroz irrigado. Dentre as espécies encontradas, além de Meloidogyne graminicola e M. javanica, outras quatro espécies com perfis de esterase atípicos foram detectadas. A primeira (Est O1) foi identificada recentemente como M. oryzae através de taxonomia integrativa. ABSTRACT Root-knot nematodes are among the major phytosanitary problems on vegetables, and the use of organic matter can be a viable method to control this parasite. Thus, in the present study we aimed to investigate in a greenhouse the use of bokashi doses (organic compound produced by fermentation of grain mixtures) in the control of Meloidogyne javanica in lettuce. Substrate infestation was carried out using tomato seedlings transplanted into pots containing 2 kg of autoclaved soil and inoculated with 2000 eggs and eventual second stage juveniles. Even though resistance is the most promising tactic for root-knot nematode management on soybean (Glycine max), virulent biotypes may occur and be selected on specific resistant plant genotypes. In the present study, reproduction rate of Meloidogyne arenaria race 1 increased after four sequences of continuous culture of the parasite on resistant soybean genotypes.

Effects of silicon on the penetration and reproduction events of Meloidogyne exigua on coffee roots Bragantia

Considering that the root-knot nematode Meloidogyne exigua has caused great yield losses to coffee production in Brazil, this study aimed to determine whether the penetration and the reproduction events of this nematode on the roots of plants from two coffee cultivars with different levels of basal resistance to this nematode could be affected by silicon (Si). Coffee plants from the cultivars Catuaí and IAPAR 59, which are susceptible and resistant, respectively, to M. exigua, were grown in pots containing Si-deficient soil that was amended with either calcium silicate (+Si) or calcium carbonate (–Si). The aim of this study was to evaluate the performance of progenies from Citrullus lanatus var. lanatus (cultivated watermelons) when crossed with progenies from C. lanatus var. citroides (fodder watermelon with a historic of resistance to the nematode Meloidogyne enterolobii). The parents and their F1s were evaluated for resistance to this nematode. Background and Aims: Endoparasitic root-knot nematodes (RKNs) ( Meloidogyne spp.) cause considerable losses in banana ( Musa spp.), with Meloidogyne incognita a predominant species in Cavendish sub-group bananas. This study investigates the root transcriptome in Musa acuminata genotypes 4297-06 (AA) and Cavendish Grande Naine (CAV; AAA) during early compatible interactions with M. incognita .
