An advanced sheep ( Ovis aries, 2n=54) cytogenetic map and assignment of 88 new autosomal loci by fluorescence in situ hybridization and R-banding Inra

Presented herein is an updated sheep cytogenetic map that contains 452 loci (291 type Iand 161 type II) assigned to specific chromosome bands or regions on standard R-bandedideograms. This map, which significantly extends our knowledge of the physical organizationof the ovine genome, includes new assignments for 88 autosomal loci, including 74type I loci (known genes) and 14 type II loci (SSRs/microsatellite marker/STSs), by FISHmappingand R-banding. Comparison of the ovine map to the cattle and goat cytogeneticmaps showed that common loci were located within homologous chromosomes andchromosome bands, confirming the high level of conservation of autosomes amongruminant species. Eleven loci that were FISH-mapped in sheep (B3GAT2, ASCC3, RARSL,BRD2, POLR1C,...

Chromosome localization of the 31 type I Texas bovine markers in sheep and goat chromosomes by comparative FISH-mapping and R-banding Inra
DI MEO, G.P.; PERUCATTI, A.; Gautier, M.; Hayes, H.; INCARNATO, D.; Eggen, A.; IANUZZI, L..
Bovine BAC clones containing the 31 genes, referred to as the Texas markers used earlier todefinitively assign the 31 bovine syntenic groups (U) to cattle chromosomes, were mappedby fluorescent in situ hybridization to sheep and goat R-banded chromosomes according toISCNDB2000. All 31 markers were localized on homoeologous chromosomes and chromosomebands of the two species in agreement with previous localizations obtained both incattle and river buffalo, definitively confirming chromosome homoeologies between Caprinaeand Bovinae. In addition, we have extended physical maps of sheep and goat as 11 genes(HSD3B1, INHBA, CSN10, IGF2R, PIGR, MAP1B, DSC1, ELN, TNFRSF6, CGN1, IGF2) and14 genes (SOD1, HSD3B1, CSN10, IGF2R, RB1, TG, PIGR, MAP1B, IGH@, LTF,...

Effects of defaunation on microbial activities in the rumen of rams consuming a mixed diet (fresh Digitaria decumbens grass and concentrate) Inra

Estimation of abomasum strongyle nematode infections in sheep at necropsy: Tentative proposals for a simplified technique Inra
Gaba, S.; Chadoeuf, J.; Monestiez, P.; Sauve, C.; Cortet, J.; Cabaret, J..
Several necropsy techniques are available for estimating the abundance of gastro-intestinal nematodes in abomasum of ruminants. Standardization of techniques is needed to allow accurate comparisons between laboratories. Here we propose a standardized technique for estimating the abundance of worms. We intend to compare the worms' number estimations in lambs and ewes based on contents and washings, to determine the uniformity of worm counts in aliquots, and to estimate the total worm number from washings. The digesta (or "contents") and the washings of the abornasum are treated separately. The worms of each subsample are diluted with water and the total number of worms is estimated on a small volume (aliquots) of these subsamples. The use of aliquots...

Identification of new quantitative trait loci (other the the PRNP gene) modulating the scrapie incubation period in sheep Inra
Moreno-Romieux, C.; Cosseddu, G.M.; Schibler, L.; Roig, A.; Moazami-Goudarzi, K.; Andréoletti, O.; Eychenne, F.; Lajous, D.; Schelcher, F.; Cribiu, E.; Laurent, P.; Vaiman, D.; Elsen, J.M..
ABSTRACTAlthough susceptibility to scrapie is largely controlled by the PRNP gene, we have searched for additionalgenomic regions that affect scrapie incubation time in sheep, using two half-sib families with asusceptible PRNP genotype and naturally infected by scrapie. Quantitative trait loci were detected on OAR6 and OAR18.
