Las investigaciones realizadas en torno a la problemática de los residuos sólidos a nivel mundial, coinciden en su acumulación desproporcionada e incontrolada en los vertederos, esta situación deriva de la falta en implementación de estrategias orientadas a su recuperación, reutilización y reciclaje. Dairy production systems represent a significant source of air pollutants such as greenhouse gases (GHG), that increase global warming, and ammonia (NH3), that leads to eutrophication and acidification of natural ecosystems. Greenhouse gases and ammonia are emitted both by conventional and organic dairy systems. Several studies have already been conducted to design practices that reduce greenhouse gas and ammonia emissions from dairy systems. However, those studies did not consider options specifically applied to organic farming, as well as the multiple trade-offs occurring between these air pollutants. Influence of storage on the nutritive value of pollen for brood rearing by honeybees National Institute of Agronomic Research

Small colonies of emerged bees were kept in confinement, and fed fresh pollen, or pollen two years old supplemented with: nothing, pantothenic acid, 20% dried brewers yeast, 20% vitamin-free casein, casein plus pantothenic acid. The number of sealed brood cells in these colonies (in the above order) was 8-9,l-0,2-8,4-4,5-6, and 5-8 times the number in the colonies fed old pollen alone. Deterioration of proteins and of pantothenic acid is thus partially responsible for the inferior value of stored pollen for brood rearing.

The Water activity R&D project, carried out in cooperation with ONF and Vilmorin, aimed to demonstrate the effectiveness of Water Activity assessment applied to forest seeds and pollen moisture management as a replacement for moisture content assessment.Water Activity assessment is a quick and non destructive technique to qualify the kind and the chemical potential of water remaining in the sample. The growth of micro-organisms require a specific osmotic pressure, or WaterActivity(Aw), between cell walls and medium. Pollen storage under vacuum National Institute of Agronomic Research

Pollens of 10 different genera have been evacuated for 2 hours to a final pressure of about 0.015 mm Hg. The pollen was stored in ampoules in vacuo at +5°C and at room temperature. The viability of the pollen was tested in all cases by germinability. On six of the ten species the pollen viability was tested as 'fertility' i. e. the ability to effect seed set. The results show that the standard vacuum treatment of 2 hours slightly reduces the germinability (quantitative measure) whereas no such drop could be found by the fertility test (qualitative measure). Relationships between dairy powder surface composition and wetting properties during storage: importance of residual lipids Inra

The relationships between powder surface composition and powder rehydration properties undervariable conditions of storage are investigated in this paper. A rheological approach was used toevaluate the modifications induced by storage on the rehydration properties of native phosphocaseinatepowder. Concurrently, the powder surface composition (i.e., lactose, proteins, and lipids) was evaluatedby X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). A strong correlation was found between the powderwetting time lengthening and the migration of lipids on the powder surface during storage. The influence of stored pollen and of colony size on the brood rearing of honeybees National Institute of Agronomic Research

Four hundred and thirty records of the numbers of bees in honeybee colonies and of the amounts of brood and pollen present have been kept during various months of the years 1945-53, and the data have been used to calculate total and partial regression coefficients showing the influence of stored pollen and of colony size on brood rearing throughout the year. It was found that pollen storage and colony size were correlated but that, even allowing for this, colony size and pollen both independently influenced brood rearing.
