An empirical study of some astrological factors in relation to dog behaviour differences by statistical analysis and compared with human characteristics Inra
Fuzeau-Braesch, S.; Denis, J.B..
A survey of 500 pedigree dogs was carried out in the Paris region. For each dog, six behavioural traits were determined and ten of their astrologicaltraits were retained. A statistical interpretation of the possible relationshipsbetween the two sets of traits was performed based on permutation tests. Two strong associations were detected between the angular positions of Jupiterand the Sun, and the extraversion dominant trait. There were indications ofother associations. These associations have a remarkable resemblance to thestandard associations usually proposed in "human" astrology

How have opinions about GMOs changed over time? The situation in the European Union and the USA Inra
Bonny, S..

Impact of the CAP Single Farm / Area payments on farmers’ decisions: Preliminary results of a farm-level survey Inra
Douarin, E.; Latruffe, L..
This paper deals with the potential impact of the introduction of the SFP in EU-15 and of the SAP in NMS on farmers’ decisions. A survey conducted in Sweden, Lithuania and Slovakia in 2005 investigates farmers’ intentions over the next 5 years in two scenarios: introduction of SFP/SAP, and if the previous policy (Agenda 2000 or pre-accession national policy) remains in place. Results of the survey reveal that the global effect of the CAP switch on Swedish sector seems to be a reduction in production and in the willingness to remain a farmer. By contrast, in Slovakia and Lithuania individual farmers are willing to stay longer in farming and to increase their UAA. As for farmers’ expectation regarding the future of the CAP, the survey results show that in...

Intended farmers responses to decoupled CAP payments in selected EU-15 and new member states: what are the policy lessons? Inra
Douarin, E.; Davidova, S.; Bailey, A.; Gorton, M.; Latruffe, L.; European Commission (BEL); JRC, Joint Research Center, IPTS, Institute for Prospective Technological Studies (BEL).
This briefing emphasises some of the findings of a study of the impact of decoupled payment system on farmers’ intentions in five EU Member States carried out within the FP6 IDEMA project (Impact of Decoupling and Modulation on the Enlarged EU). The analysis draws on primary survey data and farm accounting records. IDEMA project collected a unique dataset of farmers’ intentions regarding their planned activities in the post-accession / single payment system era in five EU Member States (England, France, Lithuania, Slovakia and Sweden). For full details about the survey data, their analysis and interpretation of results, see FP6 IDEMA, Deliverable 14, June 2007.

Methodology for Two Weighting Applications for the 2008 Zambia Supplemental Survey AgEcon
Megill, David J..
In 2001 the first Supplemental Survey (SS) was conducted using the panel of the sample households selected for the 1999/2000 Post-Harvest Survey (PHS). All of the sample households in the PHS 99/00 that were found in the sample standard enumeration areas (SEAs) in 2001 were included in the sample for this first SS. The SS04 and SS08 followed this same panel of sample households three and seven years later to provide additional longitudinal data for these households. The main objective of the SS was to provide longitudinal data for the sample...

Status of black-grass (Alopecurus myosuroides) resistance to acetyl-coenzyme A carboxylase inhibitors in France Inra
Délye, C.; Menchari, Y.; Guillemin, J.P.; Matéjicek, A.; Michel, S.; Camilleri, C.; Chauvel, B..
We assessed the contributions of target site- and non-target site-based resistance to herbicides inhibiting acetyl-coenzyme A carboxylase (ACC) in Alopecurus myosuroides (black grass). A total of 243 A. myosuroides populations collected across France were analysed using herbicide sensitivity bioassay (24 300 seedlings analysed) and ACC genotyping (13 188 seedlings analysed). Seedlings resistant to at least one ACC-inhibiting herbicide were detected in 99.2% of the populations. Mutant, resistant ACC allele(s) were detected in 56.8% of the populations. Among the five resistant ACC alleles known in A. myosuroides, alleles containing an isoleucine-to-leucine substitution at codon 1781 were predominant (59.5% of the plants containing resistant ACC alleles)....

When students faced rural realities: learning complexity in a rural region Inra
Benoit, M.; Crépineau, C.; Feidt, C.; Amiaud, B.; Le Roux, Y.; Piutti, S.; Jurjanz, S..
This pedagogic experiment is carried out with students of the Ecole Nationale Supérieure d'Agronomie et des Industies Alimentaires of Nancy (France)in the last year of their formation ("ingénieur agronome"). Since five years, this pedagogic module is organized to teach them to confront with local stakeholders about rural and agricultural development. This module is divided in tow formation sessions: a first session to learn methodological tools and technical data (roughly one week long) and a second session (one week) taking place away from the class-room in a rural area. Since five years, the originality of the chosen areas is that it presents new agricultural models that they did not approach before. They build a presentation which summarizes their...
