| French suckler farmers need advice on the implications of the Agenda 2000 CAP reform fortheir farms and, in particular, on the incentives it offers for a more extensive mode of production.To support the dialogue between advisers and farmers, and thus help farmers with theirdecision-making, we constructed a linear programming (LP) model that optimises the farmingsystem of the northern Massif Central Charolais suckler cattle farms, which may be eithermixed (crop-livestock) or specialised (livestock). | Au Mexique, l'hacienda a été rayée de la carte après qu'une réforme agraire, débutée dans les années vingt, avait procédé au réaménagement foncier du territoire. Mais donner la terre est une chose; permettre d'en tirer profit est une autre chose. Aujourd'hui, les campagnes s'endorment dans l'autoconsommation, après une tentative de "révolution verte" avortée. Le Mexique importe des céréales pour répondre à la demande interne. Or, un traité de libre-échange avec les Etats-Unis et le Canada est en cours d'élaboration. On parle donc de compétitivité alors que, dans son ensemble, la campagne ne suivra pas. Dans ces conditions, le modèle de la grande exploitation capitaliste ressurgit du passé. (Résumé d'auteur) |

| Analyse structurale, floristique, sanitaire et socio-culturelle de trois vergers polyspécifiques d'Amazonie centrale brésilienne (environs de Manaus). L'installation de vergers destinés à la consommation familiale et éventuellement à la vente est une pratique courante dans cette région, elle succède à la culture du manioc sur brûlis. Dans la plaine alluviale, de tels vergers peuvent être une reconversion de systèmes arborés antérieurs. Les espèces utilisées sont d'origines diverses, les amazoniennes étant prédominantes : 40 sur un total de 60 espèces recensées. | Because of the unpredictability of the markets, of the agricultural policies, and of the climate, farmers need to think of their farming systems’ dynamics in a context of uncertainty about the future. A study was conducted in dairy and beef systems either in France or Uruguay. It aims at characterizing and qualifying the diversity of the paths used to last. The data is based on family–farm trajectories of 35 farms and the analysis framework refers to the adaptive cycle of complex systems by Holling. Three axes of differentiation were established.
