A histological study of microsporogenesis in Tarenna gracilipes (Rubiaceae) Naturalis

We studied the microsporogenesis in Tarenna gracilipes (Hayata) Ohwi, with special attention to the mode of exine deposition and tapetum development. We based this research on light (LM), scanning electron (SEM) and transmission electron microscopic (TEM) observations of developing anthers of T. gracilipes, from the microspore mother cell stage towards anther dehiscence. Evidence is supplied that the microsporogenesis in T. gracilipes can be considered as simultaneous. Columellae, foot layer and tectum develop in a fibrillar matrix. Similar with earlier studies in Rubiaceae species, a single white line formed near the plasmalemma in the extra-apertural region. Gills scanning images of the seawater fish Eugerres brasilianus (Gerreidae) BABT

The gills of the adult fish, Eugerres brasilianus (Gerreidae) were analyzed in a scanning electron microscope. The stratified epithelium was uniform on all parts of the branchial arch. Concentric microridges were present on cells that form this epithelium and were mainly observed in the primary lamellae and pharyngeal region where mucous cells were also abundant. The ultrastructural features of E. brasilianus gills indicated that this was not a filtering species, and that the feeding habit included mainly the intake of small organisms. The results presently obtained agreed with other literature data which determined the feeding habit of this species by means of stomach content analysis and other aspects.

Histology and Scanning Electron Microscopy of the Lower Respiratory Tract in the Adult Red Fox (Vulpes vulpes) International Journal of Morphology

The study was conducted on a total of three adult healthy freshly killed red foxes of both sexes weighing about 4-6 kg collected from Abou Rawwash, Giza, Egypt. The wall of trachea and bronchi formed of mucosa, submucosa and adventitia. The mucosa formed of pseudostratified columnar epithelium and lamina propria. The respiratory epithelium composed of tall columnar ciliated, goblet cells, basal cells, and neuroendocrine cells. Goblet cells account for about 20 to 30% of cells in the more proximal. Basal cells are relatively small triangular cells whose bases are attached to the basement membrane. The primary bronchiole is lined by simple columnar nonciliated to cuboidal epithelium containing some bronchiolar exocrine cells and some goblet cells....

This deliverable includes several documents that reflect the operational implementation of the tool FlowCAM / ZooPhytoImage in the framework of REPHY. Among these documents, three reports make an assessment of the entire year 2015, which is not the case with other documents (Master 2 report issued in spring 2015, and minutes of meetings over the year). This summary will be limited to the findings of the three reports providing an updated view of the implementation of the tool. Work completed in 2015 for the operational implementation. Os ácaros Tenuipalpidae (Acari: Prostigmata) incluem espécies fitófagas, sendo parte delas importantes pragas agrícolas, incluindo transmissoras de viroses em culturas de importância econômica como citros, café e maracujá. Apesar da importância da família, especialmente dos gêneros Brevipalpus e Tenuipalpus, e da grande diversidade de plantas nas quais se alimentam, há poucas informações sobre esses gêneros na Bahia. O presente estudo busca contribuir para o conhecimento da diversidade de ácaros dos gêneros Tenuipalpus e Brevipalpus associados a plantas cultivadas ou em áreas de ocorrência natural da Bahia, Brasil, a partir de uma abordagem integrativa, utilizando dados morfológicos e moleculares. Ultrastructure (SEM) of the gills of Prochilodus Scrofa Steindachner (Pisces, Teleostei) Zoologia

Gills arches of the freshwater fish Prochilodus scrofa Steindachner, 1881 (Lt= 8.0-12.4cm) were removed to be analyzed in a scanning electron microscope. The morphology of the superficial structures of the gill filaments and pharyngeal region of the gills arches was discussed and related to their functional aspects. A great quantity of mucous secretory cells and of microridges, along with the pavement cell surface of the primary lamellae and branchial pharyngeal region, indicate the existence of a protection strategy of the respiratory lamellae. The chloride cells are abundant, specially on the distal portion of the primary lamellae, and bring out the osmo regulatory capacity of this species.
