Abstract Key message MdoDHN11 acts in the nucellus layer to protect the embryo and the endosperm from limited water availability during apple seed development.AbstractDehydrins (DHNs) are protective proteins related to several plant developmental responses that involve dehy-dration such as seed desiccation and abiotic stresses. O objetivo do presente trabalho foi identificar o manejo da agrobiodiversidade pelos agricultores familiares de comunidades rurais do município de Sobral, Ceará, a partir de um levantamento das variedades crioulas de milho (Zea mays L.) e feijão (Vigna unguiculata, L. Walp)) utilizadas e descrever os atributos que norteiam a seleção, manutenção e conservação dessas variedades do ponto de vista do agricultor.

Relation between Seed Appearance and Phenolic Maturity: A Case Study Using Grapes cv. Carménère Chilean J. Agric. Res.

Sensory evaluation of grapes (Vitis vinifera L.) plays a key role in determining the harvest time in grapevine varieties. The harvest time of cv. Carménère is one of the latest of Chile. During the season 2007-2008, the evolution of the appearance of ‘Carménère’ seeds was evaluated as a harvest criterion, comparing it with the chemical and phenolic ripening. The samples were obtained from an organic vineyard located in Curicó Valley, Chile. Starting at 16 ºBrix, 100 seed berries samples were collected weekly from medium vigor vines in order to register photographically the ventral and dorsal sides of each seed. The Dof (DNA-binding with one finger) protein family spans a group of plant transcription factors involved in the regulation of several functions, such as plant responses to stress, hormones and light, phytochrome signaling and seed germination. Here we describe the Dof-like gene family in grapevine (Vitis vinifera L.), which consists of 25 genes coding for Dof. An extensive in silico characterization of the VviDofL gene family was performed. Additionally, the expression of the entire gene family was assessed in 54 grapevine tissues and organs using an integrated approach with microarray (cv Corvina) and real-time PCR (cv Pinot Noir) analyses. Study of sunn hemp seed development and maturation was studied at the Department of Plant Science, Faculty of Natural Resources, Prince of Songkla University, Hat Yai campus, Hat Yai, Songkhla, during March-June, 2008. The blooming flowers were tagged to indicate the date of flowering. Pods at 10, 13, 16, 19, 22, 25, 28, 31, 34, 37, 40, 43 and 46 days after flowering were harvested to investigate pod color, seed color and seed quality. The results showed that the sunn hemp had 6 developmental stages of pod color which were green, yellow-green, light grey-green, dark greygreen, grey-brown and grey-brown-black at 10-16, 19-28, 31, 34, 37-40 and 43-46 days after flowering, respectively. The sunn hemp seeds were capable of germination at approximately 25 days...
