A COMPARISON OF STRATEGIES FOR WEED MANAGEMENT IN NATURE FARMING Organic Eprints

Weeds are a major problem in organic or Nature Farming systems and mechanical methods are generally used for weed control. However either mulching or growing crop in-between rows of the principal crop offers scope as a means of protecting soil and suppressing weeds. Field studies thus evaluated the impact of either a mulch or growing two intercrops as possible management strategies for controlling weeds of vegetables grown in major and minor seasons of the tropics under a Nature Farming regime. All three strategies controlled weed numbers, their biomass and increased crop yields. A method for high accuracy geo-referencing of data from field operations Organic Eprints

In this project a Real Time Kinematic Global Position System (RTKGPS) was used to provide high accuracy field operation data. The deviations and errors of the RTKGPS when used in static and dynamic modes were studied as well as the accuracy of RTK GPS in eastern Denmark (55 40 N, 12 18 E) during a 24-hour test. The project introduced a novel real time data acquisition system and post-processing algorithms for improving positioning by merging RTKGPS data with vehicle altitude.

A new concept for the control of Elytrigia repens in organic crop production Organic Eprints

The control of perennial weeds in organic crop production needs reconsideration to minimise losses of nutrients through leaching. Long post-harvest periods with mechanical weed control hinder a plant cover with the purpose of taking up nutrients not being utilised by the main crop to maintain soil fertility. To meet the interests of nutrient and weed management, we suggest a new concept for the control of perennial weeds with propagules placed within the plough layer. The concept comprises uprooting and immediate removal of Elytrigia repens rhizomes with modified machinery to allow for a quick re-establishment of a plant cover to avoid longer periods of bare soil. A physiologically-based model of Cirsium arvense and Tussilago farfara growth and control Organic Eprints

Perennial herbs can be difficult to manage because of their underground storage organs which live sheltered from observation and control. In this paper, we describe the development of a population dynamics model for two perennial weeds, Cirsium arvense and Tussilago farfara. The model is physiologically based and includes plant growth and development, and mowing as a control option. Model performance was compared with field data from monospecific stands of C. arvense in Denmark and Netherlands and of T. farfara in Denmark. Finally, optimal mowing strategies were explored with the model.

Åbent Hus: Forbedret udnyttelse af jord og ressourcer i økologiske dyrkningssystemer Organic Eprints

Projektet SoilVeg handler om forbedret udnyttelse af jord og ressourcer i økologiske dyrkningssystemer for grøntsager med grønafgrøder. Der afprøves dyrkning af hvidkål i to nye dyrkningssystemer med reduceret jordbearbejdning. I det ene system plantes direkte ned i en tromlet vintergrønafgrøde uden anden jordbearbejdning, og her er det tanken at den tromlede biomasse dækker jorden og dermed holder ukrudt nede i løbet af sæsonen. I det andet system laves stribenedmuldning af grønafgrøden før plantning. De to nye systemer sammenlignes med almindelig nedmuldning og ingen forudgående grønafgrøde. Både vinterhestebønne, vinterært og vintervikke er blevet brugt som grønafgrøder og i blandinger med vinterrug. Disse forsøg kører ved Forskningscenter Årslev i 2016...

Abflammen von Säzwiebeln im Nachauflauf Organic Eprints

Einleitung: Für den ökologischen Anbau von Säzwiebeln ist das Abflammen ein wesentliches Glied in der Kette der Maßnahmen zur Unkrautregulation, ohne das ein großflächiger Anbau nicht denkbar wäre. Anders als bei der Möhre und anderen Arten, bei denen das Abflammen vor Auflauf der Kultur durchzuführen ist, sind bei Zwiebeln auch Behandlungen im Nachauflauf möglich. In der Praxis taucht aber immer wieder die Frage auf, bis zu welchem Entwicklungsstadium das Abflammen erfolgen kann, ohne die Pflanzen nachhaltig zu schädigen. Im Rahmen einer Diplomarbeit (LABER 1990) wurden die Auswirkungen unterschiedlicher Abflammtermine bei Säzwiebeln näher untersucht. Ackerkratzdistel: Im Biobetrieb dauerhaft regulieren Organic Eprints

Die Ackerkratzdistel kann vor allem in Bioackerbaubetrieben mit guten Böden ein Problem werden. Eine Patentlösung zu ihrer Regulierung existiert bisher für den Biobetrieb nicht. Unter Beachtung gewisser pflanzenbaulicher Regeln und in Kombination mit einer gezielten Bodenbearbeitung lässt sie sich aber trotzdem erfolgreich regulieren. Das Merkblatt listet die Ursachen von Distelproblemen auf und liefert, basierend auf Praxiserfahrungen in mehreren Ländern, Empfehlungen zur Regulierung von der Vorbeugung einer Verunkrautung bis zu Massnahmen bei grossflächigem Befall.

Die floristische Diversität wird immer häufiger als Indikator für eine naturgerechte Bewirtschaftung genutzt. Während sie in Grünlandsystemen bereits Grundlage zur Honorierung besonderer ökologischer Leistungen (z.B. in der Schweiz und in Baden-Württemberg) ist, wird die Wildkraut-Artenvielfalt auf Äckern erst anfänglich als honorierbare ökologische Leistung diskutiert. Im Rahmen eines Forschungsprojektes zur Erfassung biotischer Leistungen auf landwirtschaftlicher Betriebsebene wurde u.a. auch eine Methode erarbeitet, welche die pflanzliche Biodiversität von Ackerflächen berücksichtigt. Ackerwildkräuter konventionell und biologisch bewirtschafteter Äcker im östlichen Meißnervorland – Entwicklung in den letzten 30 Jahren Organic Eprints

Das östliche Meißnervorland in Nordhessen ist als besonders artenreiches Refugium selten gewordener Ackerwildkräuter bekannt. Auf den bereits 1975 und 1990 floristisch gut untersuchten Ackerflächen wurden mit 348 Vegetationsaufnahmen im Jahre 2002 erneut Daten zur aktuellen Segetalvegetation erhoben. Die pflanzensoziologische Vergesellschaftung der Arten und deren Entwicklung wird, differenziert für die Rand- und Innenbereiche der Felder, vorgestellt. Seltene Pflanzengemeinschaften, wie z.B. die Haftdolden-Adonisröschen-Gesellschaft, sind nach wie vor im Gebiet vorhanden, jedoch zunehmend floristisch verarmt und beschränkt auf die Randbereiche von Feldern. A Mata Atlântica é um complexo de ecossistemas com elevada diversidade biológica; um dos biomas mais ameaçados do mundo pelas agressões às florestas; uma das cinco regiões do planeta de maior prioridade para a conservação. Em Pindamonhangaba, SP, vem sendo realizado experimentos de conversão agroflorestal de áreas de plantio de Guanandi (Calophyllum braziliense) em várzeas e terraços fluviais. O objetivo desse trabalho é buscar alternativas menos impactantes, rentáveis e com potencial de contribuição à conservação ambiental, com a seleção de adubos verdes adaptados regionalmente para compor os sistemas agroflorestais (SAFs). Afpudsning af græsmarker Organic Eprints

På afgræsningsfolde opstår der altid større eller mindre pletter med uensartet græsvækst og kraftigt ukrudt, for eksempel tidsler og bynker. Det er uhensigtsmæssigt, idet de ”inficerede” områder producerer for lidt. Problemet kan klares med afpudsning af folden, idet afpudsning får græs og kløver til at sætte nye skud, og bevirker, at ukrudtet svækkes meget. Folden skal klippes i ca. 8 cm højde, og afpudsningsmaterialet skal helst knuses, fordeles jævnt og blæses i bund - især hvis folden skal have afgræsningspause efter afpudsningen.

Ager-Tidsel har i de seneste år været et stigende problem i de danske kornmarker, særligt i de økologiske sædskifter. Ved en målrettet indsats har Forskningcenter Flakkebjerg vist, at selv meget kraftige og store kolonier af tidsler kan bekæmpes inden for en relativ kort tidshorisont, uden brug af herbicider.

Agerkål og agersennep kan bekæmpes Organic Eprints

Gule blomster var ikke noget særsyn i vårsæden i det forgangne vækstår. Enkelte marker var så befængte med enten agerkål eller agersennep, at man nemt kunne forveksle afgrøden med raps. De korsblomstrede ukrudtsplanter var ikke kun dominerende i marker, hvor problemet er tilbagevendende, men også i marker, hvor der ikke før er observeret agerkål eller agersennep. Dette fik nogle økologer til at få den mistanke, at såsæden indeholdt frø af især agersennep. Andre havde en mistanke om, at den importerede husdyrgødning indeholdt frøene. Virkeligheden er nok, at betingelserne for de to arter har været ideelle i år, hvormed frø, der har ligget i jorden gennem adskillige år, kom til spiring netop i år.
