Biofilm formation on surfaces immersed in sea water induces equipment damages. Recently, studies focused on the environmental impact of antifouling paints have shown that some active chemical compounds are harmful to the aquatic environment. Hence, it appears fundamental to study physico-chemical interactions existing between marine bacteria and various substrata to conceive new ecological products or antifouling processes. First, we model an artificial primary organic film, formed by the adsorption of BSA and polysaccharide, as close as the one formed in natural seawater. All surfaces that are immersed in seawater rapidly become covered by nitrogenous compounds, proteins, carbohydrates, salts, silica and bacteria in a few hours, and by a grown biofilm in a few days. These biodeterioration, physical and chemical damages involve important cleaning costs. Organostanic paintings used up to now to protect the surfaces against this spoiling will be prohibited in 2008 because of their toxicity. That's why the stake today is to find alternatives to these paintings. The solution which is here suggested consists in acting on the first stages of the formation of the biofilm i.e. the proteins and bacterial adsorption on the surface. Relationships between dairy powder surface composition and wetting properties during storage: importance of residual lipids Inra

The relationships between powder surface composition and powder rehydration properties undervariable conditions of storage are investigated in this paper. A rheological approach was used toevaluate the modifications induced by storage on the rehydration properties of native phosphocaseinatepowder. Concurrently, the powder surface composition (i.e., lactose, proteins, and lipids) was evaluatedby X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). A strong correlation was found between the powderwetting time lengthening and the migration of lipids on the powder surface during storage. The promoting effect of cesium on structure and morphology of silver catalysts Anais da ABC (AABC)

Silver supported catalysts on alpha-alumina were prepared and characterized by Brunauer-Emmet-Teller equations, scanning electronic microscopy, X-ray diffraction and atomic force microscopy techniques. Results show that these are powerful techniques for the determination of texture, morphology and surface properties. It has been shown that the addition of Cs in the Ag/Al2O3 catalyst increased the dispersion of silver with the formation of small silver particles over a thin silver film already formed over the alumina support. It is important to stress that atomic force microscopy measurements are significant to observe the film and the dispersion of Ag and, on the contrary, X-ray photoelectronic spectroscopy did not, however, it allows to the conclusion...
