Bovine Bone Matrix Action Associated With Morphogenetic Protein in Bone Defects in Rats Submitted to Alcoholism International Journal of Morphology

Extended excessive alcohol use causes changes in bone tissue, thus affecting osteogenesis. The objective of this study was to evaluate if demineralized bone matrix (Gen-ox®) associated with bone morphogenetic protein (Gen-pro®) changes bone neoformation in rats submitted to experimental alcoholism. Forty male rats (Rattus norvegicus) were separated into 2 groups of 20 animals each: Group E1, which received ethyl alcohol at 25% and had the surgical cavity filled in only with blood clot; and Group E2, which received ethyl alcohol at 25% and had the surgical cavity filled in with demineralized bovine cortical bone associated with bone morphogenetic protein. Cryopreservation of Canine Ovaries by Vitrification OAK

The cryopreservation of ovarian tissues is a technology with significant potential for the preservation of the genetic resource materials of working dogs, including guide dogs for the blind. However, no attempt has been reported on cryopreservation of the canine ovary. Thus, we evaluated a vitrification method for cryopreservation of canine ovaries and determined the potential functionality of vitrified-warmed canine ovaries by means of transplantation into non-obese diabetic-severe combined immunodeficiency (NOD-SCID) mice. All ovarian tissues cryopreserved by vitrification were morphologically normal in terms of histology. Effects of curcumin on growth of human cervical cancer xenograft in nude mice and underlying mechanism Ciênc. Tecnol. Aliment.

Abstract The present study investigated the effects of curcumin (Cur) on growth of human cervical cancer xenograft in nude mice and underlying mechanism. The nude mice modeled with human cervical cancer HeLa cell xenograft were treated with normal saline (control), 3 mg/kg Cisplatin, 50, 100 and 200 mg/kg Cur, respectively. The animal body weight and growth of tumor were measured. The expressions of Bax, Bcl-2, p53, p21, HIF-1α, VEGF and MIF protein in tumor tissue were determined. Results showed that, after treatment for 20 days, the tumor mass and tumor volume in 100 and 200 mg/kg Cur group were significantly lower than control group (P < 0.05). Inhibitory effects of tanshinone IIA from Salvia miltiorrhiza Bge on human bladder cancer BIU-87 cells and xenograft in nude mice Ciênc. Tecnol. Aliment.

Abstract The objective of this study was to investigate the inhibitory effects of tanshinone IIA on human bladder cancer BIU-87 cells and the xenograft in nude mice. BIU-87 cells were treated with tanshinone IIA with concentration of 0.5, 1, 2 and 4 g/L. The cell proliferation, cycle and apoptosis were detected. The nude mice with BIU-87 cell xenograft were treated with normal saline (control), 5-fluorouracil (5-FU), 200, 400 and 600 mg/kg tanshinone IIA, respectively. The animal body weight and growth of tumor were measured. The expressions of B-cell lymphoma-2 (Bcl-2), Caspase-3 and proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) protein in xenograft were detected.
